[Massive content warning for abuse and child death]

This story is appalling. Every part of it is worse than the previous part. This poor, poor girl. What a horrible short life and awful death she had. God almighty.

But remember in Scotland your not fully responsible for your actions till you're 25 because your brain isn't fully formed till the age of 25.utter bollocks, I knew full well at an early age the difference between right and wrong, I just hoped I didn't get caught. Nicking sweets, playing chicken nelly us a far cry from this.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 25/07/2023 19:30

the siblings were fostered from the age of three and five by Craig Niven and his wife Carol. The couple were granted permanent care of the siblings a few years later.

So why was 16 year old Amber in a childrens home and her brother in a homeless hostel if they were supposed to be in the care of Craig and Carol Niven?

TheRealHousewife · 25/07/2023 19:33

Absolutely abhorrent 💔

watersprites · 25/07/2023 19:33

I was shocked by this, I mean wtf. That poor, poor girl.

LadyKX · 25/07/2023 19:36

I read this earlier. Truly truly shocking. Poor Amber. May she RIP now.

I wondered that too, and also why Amber was the first to leave to stay in a home and not the older one? And where is the birth mother in all of this?

I grew up there, not been back for years. Couldn't leave quick enough.

Hardertheyfall · 25/07/2023 19:40

Awful and appalling . Poor wee Amber..may she rest in peace. I didn't realise the beast who molested her wee broken body was unknown to her or her murdering brother. Just awful.

AmandaHoldensLips · 25/07/2023 19:46

Those fucking animals - I hope they are met with hell-on-earth when they go to jail.

FreyafromLondon · 25/07/2023 19:47

I honestly haven't stopped thinking about that poor girl all evening. The way she was treated by adult males throughout her 16 years is just so so sad.
Her vile brother will probably only get about 15 years and be out in 7.5
The justice system is partly to blame! Nobody seems scared of jail anymore because most of the time the sentences are short. I hope she is now at peace bless her soul. Rest in peace Amber

KissKissMollysLips · 25/07/2023 19:48

I can’t stop thinking about poor Amber since I read this. The depravity is beyond shocking.

I haven't seen the background in this situation but am aware that sadly foster placements often fail during the teenage years. Teens often end up homeless at 16-18.

When you think of the difficulties any parents with teenagers growing up face, kids sometimes dabbling in drugs/alcohol, peer pressure, hormones/anger etc. and add to that young people who are coming to terms with trauma they faced, emotions around their parents feelings towards them etc. you can only image how difficult situations can become and why placements can break down at this stage (As I say I have no idea what the situation was in this awful case).

RIP Amber - beautiful young lady - this should never happen to anyone

NegativNancy · 25/07/2023 19:49

I knew it would be about this poor girl when I read the title. How can one girl's short life be full of such misery? Why wasn't she given a fair chance at life? Why are there so many abysmally depraved men out there?
Absolutely heartbreaking.

MotherEarthisaTerf · 25/07/2023 19:52

Not all men, but somehow a lot of the men in this girl's life, and death.

Horrific

FKATondelayo · 25/07/2023 19:53

Given it's Scotland they'll probably get community service. 😡

Willmafrockfit · 25/07/2023 19:14

her brother,
their dad,
terrible

I haven’t read anything about their dad, what did he do?

Fernticket · 25/07/2023 19:58

💔💔💔💔There are no words. Rest in Peace sweetheart

Cinnamope · 25/07/2023 19:59

Awful. Not even safe after her death.
despicable men.

It wasn't the dad, an older man happened to chance on finding Amber dead defiled her remains and tried to hide her body in bushes.

MorrisZapp · 25/07/2023 20:03

Every part of this is utterly heartbreaking. That poor girl was comprehensively let down at every turn. That sweet, sweet face. I could cry.

25sheets · 25/07/2023 20:05

I know that, I was replying to a poster who mentioned their dad. I don’t know if she has wrongly thought her dad was the other man convicted?

Northernsouloldies · 25/07/2023 20:08

Sorry nicknacky, crossed purposes there.

I assume pp was referring to this (from the BBC article linked):
Court documents also show that Amber and Connor Gibson's biological father, Peter Gibson, sexually assaulted two young boys and assaulted and raped a woman.

horrific, poor, poor Amber.

BlushBlue · 25/07/2023 20:10

Awful, awful story. Assuming their foster care went well, it shows how a damaged early life impacts - they were only 3 and 5 when they went to foster parents.

Poor Amber, that smiley face, RIP.

Liamgallaghersparka · 25/07/2023 20:10

What a beautiful girl and what a senseless waste. I hope she is at peace now.
