It’s only July but I want to talk Cosy Autumn stuff!

I’m sat in my garden (with a break in the rain). I have a hoodie on and a fire going and a good cup of tea. I’ve been looking at making a list of ideas for Christmas gifts and ordered the new school uniform!

Anyone else up for a some pre-autumn cosy/ness? I’m thinking the pumpkin decorated glass mug I saw advertised at The Range is a step too far at this point in time?

I think what I love most about the changing seasons is I get excited about the food about to come into season 🍷🍊🌰 . Off the top of my head satsumas , chestnuts ,pumpkins ,butternut squash , mulled wine .

This sounds amazing!!

I'm currently sat reading in my cosy book nook chair in the spare room. I am drinking from that glass mug from the range - saw it on their insta this morning and had to go and immediately buy it 😂 bought a few decorations I've snuck up too!

Very excited for apple crumbles and pumpkin pies.

Pumpkin soup topped with grilled sweetcorn and crusty bread and butter and roast butternut squash with a roast meat are very popular in our house . At the minute I'm still enjoying all the strawberries and podded fresh peas .

HollyBollyBooBoo · 22/07/2023 17:16

Yes! Just ordered pumpkin purée from Ocado as they're always out of stock in Autumn!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 22/07/2023 17:20

Fabulous, just lit a fire and some candles. Cosy supper and red wine for me!
Love these evenings!

Haha. Is the mug good then or should I wait it out until some other places bring something similar out?

Yes all school uniform done and labelled. Will wash and iron it end August so fresh for Sept

As soon as they go back in September ill be straight to the city for Christmas shopping. I tend to have 90 percent done by oct half term. Then after half term get up in loft list what I have and what's needed. Then get it by end Nov.

Sept i book all the Halloween events for the dcs as soon as dates are released.

Reggiebo · 22/07/2023 17:34

Woodburner is lit . cosy home bedding back on the bed...it's July😂

NeedToBookAGetaway · 22/07/2023 17:36

I also have a book for ideas. Written in pencil then when I've purchased it i run out and write in pen.

Each dc have a page each for stocking ideas and a page for other presents. Then family /dh.

A treats food list that i can buy when the offers start. Then a fresh food list for nearer the time.

Im sad but i love the fact its all done, nit rushed and thought out done ans wrapped by xmas to enjoy Dec of festive films and family days.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/07/2023 17:41

I’m back in winter woollies today.

Just tried to order a 2nd pair of lovely cosy Lazy Bones trousers from Seasalt, but they’re not coming up. 😩

I’m already saving jars for making Delia’s 🎄mincemeat.

SoCentralRain · 22/07/2023 17:42

They had some lovely autumn/pumpkin mugs and kitchen accessories in Matalan.
I love it when the weather cools down and the nights draw in.

BHRK · 22/07/2023 17:43

Absolutely not, winter goes on forever and I adore summer sun and the clothes. I’ve not given up yet.. summer holiday yet to have! Ill
brace autumn at the end of September

DontEatCrisps · 22/07/2023 17:45

Got the wood burner on here sand thinking about learning to knit socks, difficult I fear.

FionnulaTheCooler · 22/07/2023 17:45

TK Maxx had a few autumn/Halloween bits in the other day. I very nearly bought a pumpkin spice candle, only didn't because I had gone on the train instead of taking the car into town and didn't want to lug it around all day.

LibertyLily · 22/07/2023 17:48

Wearing three jumpers, leggings and woolly socks here. Snuggled under a faux fur blanket with a book and some water (don't do hot drinks), staring out at the incessant rain and the windswept countryside.

I really don't want to start thinking about autumnal stuff (no DC living at home so no school uniform etc to deal with these days), although we do love Halloween and always put some decs up, but it's way too early imho.

As for planning Christmas gifts - that'll be done in December.

It feels like we've only had salad type dinners about three times this year so far because the weather's been so crap! We are having a curry tonight though and I'm tempted to light one of the wood burners.

Breakoutbertha · 22/07/2023 17:50

I can't believe people are starting planning Christmas in July. 6 months in advance.

Yep, I was in a combined Homesense/TK Maxx yesterday and saw loads of Halloween stuff.

I resisted temptation and instead optimistically purchased a cotton, sleeveless dress to add to the three I've already bought but not had the opportunity to wear yet this year 🙄

angharadsgoat · 22/07/2023 17:55

Get the mug @D20. I would.

Nice, cosy idea for a thread, planning for autumn and beyond.

Plicovic · 22/07/2023 17:56

I need to hide this thread as it will do my head in

At least you're trying. I intended to knit socks earlier this year, but only got around to buying some nice wool (yarn?). I will make a start some time.

Windchimeswinter · 22/07/2023 17:59

Autumn isn't cosy
It's wet muddy and windy and the heating bills are extortionate

Also loathe Christmas

Would personally never celebrate it again but have young kids

Mademetoxic · 22/07/2023 18:01

Don't wish your life away!

angharadsgoat · 22/07/2023 18:01

Don't remind about the heating bills! @Windchimeswinter

Heated throws were a godsend last year, however.

angharadsgoat · 22/07/2023 18:04

I'm not a great fan of Christmas either windchimes, but I do like autumn and harvest time.

I think the commercial aspect of Christmas can get too much.
