It’s only July but I want to talk Cosy Autumn stuff!

I’m sat in my garden (with a break in the rain). I have a hoodie on and a fire going and a good cup of tea. I’ve been looking at making a list of ideas for Christmas gifts and ordered the new school uniform!

Anyone else up for a some pre-autumn cosy/ness? I’m thinking the pumpkin decorated glass mug I saw advertised at The Range is a step too far at this point in time?

You shouldn't have asked this question then @D20 if you just wanted everyone to agree with you.

It really does feel like months of never ending heat so, yes, I get through it by thinking about autumn and winter.

And if it were the reverse, and one of those heat lovers started a thread on here asking for people who also enjoyed the heat to join them talking about sun cream and outdoor pools with nice sun loungers to help get them through the two months of cold weather, I’d think to myself that it clearly wasn’t the thread for me and keep scrolling. I’m slightly confused why several of you seem so personally affronted that some of us don’t like the heat. It’s not like anything could change if we started a petition to abolish the summer 🙄

But it hasn’t been never ending months of heat? That’s just wrong. It was ‘hot’ for 3 weeks in July.

Yes I will ignore this infuriating thread talking about being cosy in July (whilst weddings are ruined and camping holidays and UK breaks). But don’t make things up about months of heat. You can like autumn and prefer autumn/rain/cold but don’t lie about the summer we have had.. (or haven’t). It’s rained and been cool for the whole of July. Enjoy!

Yep! I shall start a thread and if nobody agrees with me I’ll get stroppy and order them off the thread.. That’s how it works. Free speech and all that.

mrshenny · 23/07/2023 20:38

Candles lit, watching the rain whilst drinking tea. Feeling cosy and loving it!

crochetmonkey74 · 23/07/2023 20:40

Yes to candles and fairylights. I love the feeling of coming home in the autumn and winter nights and it all being twinkly
I love reading spooky books too

Sportycustard · 23/07/2023 22:40

Ahhhh, I've found my tribe! I've ordered 2 dresses and a sweater today for autumn, and now, thanks to this thread, a second-hand copy of Christmas Chronicles is on its way to me. I love the read a long idea!

I'm yet to have my summer holiday, and I'm not wanting to wish the year away, but I do love autumn!

For fucks sake, it’s like arguing with a toddler. Do you always take everything so literally? How do you get through each day?

I didn’t whip out the stats for the number of hot days since 1st January and falsely claim that we’ve had months of hot days, did I? I’m pretty sure I just said that it feels like we’ve had months of heat (including July which has been consistently hot and muggy where I am). That’s not a lie. It’s an opinion. It has felt hot. It has felt muggy. It has felt like it has been going on for months. Feel free to disagree if you like, but I haven’t lied and I haven’t made anything up, so wind your neck in.

Now I suggest we both leave it there as it’s clear we’re starting to annoy one another now. We’re taking a lovely thread off topic and of all the things I’m quite happy to argue about, the weather is not in my top ten. So I’ll wish you a good night and many more sunny and hot days in whichever part of the country you’re in.

CeriB82 · 24/07/2023 05:53

@Delatron weddings and camping trips runied? Very extro!

its the Uk. Part of the parcel. Zero guarantee you will get hit sunny weather in july/august just because the season says its summer.

CeriB82 · 24/07/2023 05:54

very extreme

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 24/07/2023 06:24

I don't get the whining about the rainy weather in the UK , it's the UK ! When I was a child and we had holidays here , wellies and cagouls where packed . As well as a packet of playing cars , jigsaw puzzles etc .

I merely said we haven’t had months of heat. Your response to that is to tell me to wind my neck in. Lovely.

That’s just a fact. If you ‘feel’ like we have then yes that’s your personal opinion. July has been a cool wash out for most of the UK.

You’re the one swearing and ranting. Great response. How do you get through each day with such anger? Must be this crazy heat we’re having 🙄. You’re the one derailing the thread with some lovely language.

But yes since nobody is allowed to disagree with the OP then I’ll leave you to it. Enjoy the lovely cosy autumn thread. Get those blankets out and get snuggling!

I’m well aware of that. That’s why I go abroad every year. That’s why I got married in October and not July and August as they tend to be a wash out. Still means it’s bloody annoying people wishing a summer away and talking about autumn and being cozy in July!

Many outdoor events were cancelled the other week due to the high winds and severe weather warning. So yes I would say they were ruined. Not extreme at all..

No anger here. I just have a potty mouth. But let’s be honest; you didn’t ‘merely’ say anything. You told me not to make stuff up and told me not to lie. Why on earth are you surprised that someone would tell you to wind your neck in with the insults? (and before you start whining that they aren’t insults, insinuating that someone is a liar is very much an insult and far worse than telling someone to pack it in).

Now I’m off to have a lovely morning with a lively toddler at Baby Rhyme Time, for which I need every ounce of energy I possess. I don’t have any spare to waste on you, so please feel free to have the last word on me. I’m giving it to you.

No I’m sorry. You’re completely right we have had months of hot weather. It must have been so hard for those that struggle in the heat. Hopefully your group is indoors to escape this insane heat. Have a good day! Let’s hope it cools down and we get some much needed rain eh…

Can we get back on track. I hate mumsnet when threads go awry just from knobheads who like to ruin them? It's dampvwith a cool breeze where I am today so I'm off to some antique centres for a browse and hopefully I'll find some nice bits of autumnal decor

Yes please! I don't mind the good natured ribbing from people who aren't interested in joining the thread (yet!) but staying to argue and debate is out of order. I don't think this would have happened in Mumsnet past.

I love an antiques fair! Let us know what you end up getting.

@D20
You always get a few who only come on a thread to say FGS stop it, I hate autumn/Christmas/whatever it is.

Two of those just the other day on a 🎄thread on another forum - and mostly about 🎄crafts, which so so often need to be started in plenty of time.

Why they have nothing better to do than pile into threads they have no interest in, I don’t know. Maybe they just enjoy a good moan.

UnfunnyJester · 24/07/2023 11:14

I'm having a big clearout this summer. I mean huge. Old bedroom furniture from all the bedrooms will be gone, new carpets put in, repainting, new bedding. I can't wait to have a clean cosy house for the colder seasons.
I am really looking forward to it.
So I am kind of planning for it already, but as I said earlier, I'd really like some warm weather first so we can have some sunny days out, picnics and water fights.

Spookyseasonmum · 24/07/2023 12:43

Hobbycraft released their plushie pumpkins recently so I brought quite a few along with a selection of craft kits to keep the kids entertained during the cold autumnal days. I tend to go a bit overboard with autumn decorations. I can’t wait until it starts getting dark early and I can get all the blankets out of the loft.

And I bought myself a lovely pottery pumpkin 🎃 last week

I purchased this last week from Next, they also have ramekins, mugs and casserole dishes

Yes, some of the crafts people often start prep very early, out of necessity, just to get it ready in time.

I know, I know. I nearly retaliated last night but I had better things to do with my Sunday evening than let people get a rise out of me.

Anyway, a bit of sun this afternoon! Yesterday was thoroughly miserable wall to wall rain here. Getting the brambles and apples nice and plump before they’re ready to harvest though. This is the first year my hazel have fruited so I’m hoping the squirrels leave a few for me.

Cute!

I was thinking about doing a mug making session with a local provider and maybe I could make my own autumnal mug? There’s an idea.

A project I have never quite got to is a really soft fluffy crochet blanket in autumnal colours. Wouldn't that be lush?
