It’s only July but I want to talk Cosy Autumn stuff!

I’m sat in my garden (with a break in the rain). I have a hoodie on and a fire going and a good cup of tea. I’ve been looking at making a list of ideas for Christmas gifts and ordered the new school uniform!

Anyone else up for a some pre-autumn cosy/ness? I’m thinking the pumpkin decorated glass mug I saw advertised at The Range is a step too far at this point in time?

I don’t know anyone in real life who likes autumn and winter. Mumsnet is so strange sometimes. Talking about being cosy and Christmas in July. Can’t you wait until Sept for all this shit?

Cant you get off this thread and stop pissing on our autumnal bonfires

MichaelAndEagle · 23/07/2023 12:16

Love autumn too, but I would like some more summer first.
I like to feel ready for autumn and I don't yet.

Delatron · 23/07/2023 12:17

I shall pray for some high temperatures (of about 25 degrees) because that’s when you all start moaning) That will piss on your autumn bonfires. And maybe an Indian summer...

We are just back from holiday in Caribbean and I’m so ready for Autumn! It’s my absolute favourite season. Love reading this thread.

They had some lovely autumn/pumpkin mugs and kitchen accessories in Matalan.
I love it when the weather cools down and the nights draw in.

Me too but I get called a misery 😀

It’s JULY

This is cracked

just over a week away from August and harvest time Smile. We're not cracked, honestly !

I don't think anyone is wishing away time but August for me has a definite ´autumn approaching' feel in the air (and as other posters I think may have said). Balmy days (ok not at the moment !), cooler evenings but lacking the bite of winter (though I also like that). Blackberries and hazelnuts ripening over coming weeks and lots to see.

I enjoyed the novelty of the last one I remember a good few years ago. Walking through piles of autumn leaves dressed in summer clothing and hats!

You do know people on MN also exist in real life?

Maybe your RL friends don't tell you their likes and dislikes in case you scathingly dismiss them as "shit".

crochetmonkey74 · 23/07/2023 12:31

The blackberries by me aren't quite ready yet but I always pick them and make bramble jelly

Sorry to disappoint but I like all seasons. But curious that your natural response to people looking forward to something is to wish them collective misery. You sound nice.

I’m going to be in Japan in September and I heard they go all out for Halloween so REALLY hoping their shops get their displays in early! Summer temperatures and autumn tat - my kind of holiday:)

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 23/07/2023 12:35

I found my people yay. Gosh I got slated for using the word cosy about the weather yesterday apparently anyone who doesn’t worship the summer is lazy with obese kids forcing them to drink hot chocolate and lays on the sofa under a blanket all day 🙄 Don’t you dare mention autumn, winter and especially Christmas.

That's how I feel. I love autumn but it needs to come after a proper summer.

DustyLee123 · 23/07/2023 12:38

I love autumn 🍂 🍁🪵🐿️ my favourite time of the year ☺️

DustyLee123 · 23/07/2023 12:40

And I bought myself a lovely pottery pumpkin 🎃 last week

Courgeon · 23/07/2023 12:42

I love autumn and am really looking forward to it! Halloween is my favourite festival, went past the farm yesterday where we pick our pumpkins and am excited about it already!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 23/07/2023 12:44

@DustyLee123 I love watching the leaves on the trees change. And how lovely you got a pottery pumpkin.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 23/07/2023 12:49

@Courgeon I love going pumpkin picking we also go to a lovely farm with great lights and live music. They do a lovely spiced mulled cider also.

If you like all seasons you wouldn’t be wishing summer away for an extra long autumn and winter.

If a couple of weeks of 25 degrees causes people collective misery then you all have big problems.

I mean I don’t like cold dreary weather but I don’t moan throughout the 6-9 months that we get it because that’s what it’s like in the Uk…

crochetmonkey74 · 23/07/2023 13:20

I was in vermont and new hampshire for October and specifically Halloween last year and it was so GLORIOUS. I felt like I was in The Gilmore Girls or Hocus Pocus.

crochetmonkey74 · 23/07/2023 13:22

@Delatron just let people like what they like and talk about it. If you don't, just walk on by. This thread isn't to garner opinion, it's to gather people who want to talk about autumn.

LlynTegid · 23/07/2023 13:59

Whilst I like autumn in general, I don't want to talk about it yet. As for school uniform, I think 'back to school' advertising when in England school holidays have only just begun is awful. On another thread I advocated a levy on such early advertising, which at least could fund some activities for children.
