Sorry to respond to your comment in particular. There are few on here bemoaning a bit of sun and cheering the grey, chilly, wet summer we are currently experiencing on.

I feel like I'm being robbed of something essential...the light and joy of fucking day!

Totally agree

people seem to forget we need sun light on our skin sometimes for vitamin d etc

This.

We had weeks and weeks of unbroken sunshine and warmth earlier this year.

@Strik

you might have. I didn’t

If she's over the age of 16 and British then I find this hard to believe. I have a July birthday and it has rained on that day a number of times over the past 40 years.

My daughter's birthday is in July too, she's 15, never known one like this year (shit and wet), we must have been lucky because I genuinely don't remember her birthday this wet in the last 15 years. It's been an absolute shit July. Storms in June and Spring was shit as well apart from a ridiculous few days of baking temps before it went shit again.

Maybe they live in Spain 😅 we didn't either (Derbyshire)

CashmereDarling · 22/07/2023 16:22

Sorry everyone, it's my fault because I bought a rechargeable hand held fan a couple of weeks ago.

Haven't needed it yet 🤷🏻‍♀️

Currysoup · 22/07/2023 16:23

I usually hate heatwaves because I can't tolerate the sun but this weather is unreal. It's worse. It's depressing. It never stops raining. I want the sun to come back.

justaweeone · 22/07/2023 16:46

My fault as we bought some new garden furniture.

Maybe if we try and jinx the weather the sun might come out. If we all pack away our summer clothes and burn the garden furniture and take out the big heavy coats the sun will come out.

I wanted to buy an egg chair earlier in the summer for the garden but I'm glad I never went ahead with the purchase because it would never be used outside and there's no space indoors.

I've already relegated my summer clothes to the drawers in the wardrobe and I never got around to putting the big coat away... I'm doing my best here. 😅

Is it low 20's anywhere in the UK this afternoon?

24⁰ and sunny in the North East of Scotland this afternoon. Its been lovely.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/07/2023 17:25

We just got back from a very damp day out, and I have put the heat on.

I still don't care - it's better than 41°.

I’m more hopeful about camping in the Lakes after a couple of NW pp saying it’s not been too bad

The Lakes isn't really the NW tho. It's got its own microclimate.

@TheYearOfSmallThings

as so many others have said, it’s not one or the other…

But it DOES seem to be one or the other here.

If the weather is fine then the temperature shoots up. The only way to have moderate temperatures in summer in London is with slightly crappy weather. You won't get fine weather and mild temperatures here in July.

@Firefin

I am sitting here in a thick, wooly cardigan with cold fingers and cold feet ffs.

Oh FFS get a grip. It's JULY, It's 15 degrees celcius, it's quite humid, the rain is stopping for a few hours now, and it's due to go up to 18 later today. It's not fucking snowing! Hmm

That poster might have Raynaud's and feel the cold more than other people.

AlwaysFrazzled88 · 22/07/2023 19:47

Near east coast of Yorkshire. Rained here most days and we are a dry area!

lovescats3 · 22/07/2023 20:15

Pissed down with rain today in London

Ridemeginger · 22/07/2023 11:01

We have had a very long spell of dry, hot weather - in May and June. The seasons have been shifting for years. It's felt Autumnal to me at the start of August for at least the last 10 years. What we in England/Wales need is a shift of term times like they have in Scotland, with Summer hols kicking in much earlier.

It’s bizarre that everyone keeps saying May was hot. It was dry, cloudy and cool. (16 degrees)
See attached stats - and that’s Oxford, would have been colder up north.

It finally warmed up at the beginning of June after the May half termZ.

Why is the weather so shit?

I’m loving the weather today. Can’t wait to get in and get cosy with candles on and a hot cuppa tea.

Cosy can fuck right off.

And for the whole of autumn and winter too! Sounds wonderful.

I feel very sorry for all the weddings/BBQs/ festivals/camping trips. But oh to curl up on the sofa with a cuppa 🙄

Newshoess · 22/07/2023 20:30

@Delatron 7th May was hot in Yorkshire I remember that date because I flew to the airport and it was Yorkshire. There definitely was hot days in May this year.

Not very many! I can pull up the stats if you like..

One day doesn’t mean the whole month was summery. See that actual statistics.

EnthENd · 22/07/2023 20:33

Seems like "nice" summer weather will become a thing of the past, with the future being either baking heat on one side of the jetstream or grey rain on the other.

Delatron · 22/07/2023 20:35

There you go Leeds.
7 days of sunny weather. Cool temps. The odd warm day. Not a whole month of heat!

Why is the weather so shit?
