Did you conveniently forget about the whole of June and most of May that was sunny/hot/beautiful/mostly dry?

We had a week and a half/ 2 weeks max and it still wasn't even that hot due to wind chill. The days it was hit I can assure you I did not moan!

xogossipgirlxo · 22/07/2023 11:50

I would normally complain too, but I am jear my due date and I was so scared of heatwave at this stage of pregnancy, so I’m pretty grateful for rain😂 sunshine would be nice though

megletthesecond · 22/07/2023 11:50

It's miserable. I just want a decent few weeks of 25° and some rain at appropriate times (3am ish please). Instead I'm layered up and thinking about popping the heating on for an hour.

The May and June that was before the main holiday and 'summer fete' season? And before harvest season. Farmers must despair at the weather making their work so much harder.

Where are you rained on people.
I'm in the south west and July has been worse that May and June but not that bad. Certainly not constant rain!! The crappier weather has coincided with weekends though!!

Not in the south west, obviously. Edinburgh here.

fetchacloth · 22/07/2023 11:51

The jet stream is too far south currently so we are getting all the Atlantic fronts packed with rain.
The jet stream is currently over northern France and for the UK to get decent weather, this should be sitting north of Scotland.
Unfortunately when the jet stream becomes stuck as it is now, we could have this weather for several weeks.
There are early signs that this situation may shift later in August but this is tentative. 😔

PurpleButterflyWings · 22/07/2023 11:51

@Ridemeginger

We have had a long spell of dry, hot weather - in May and June...

Exactly this. The moany whiners are denying this though. Wink 'oh but we didn't have this where I live' LOL yes you did. Stop whingeing.

These same moany curmudgeons will be on here crying off in a few weeks when it's 30-32 degrees C that it's tooooooooooooooo hot. 😩Roll on winter wah wah wahhhhhhhh! 😭

Moan moan moan, that's all some people do.

I’m in Devon and it’s been raining constantly! We’ve only had the odd sunny and completely dry day here and there and it’s been on the cooler side, I think one day last week got to 20 degrees. Most of the time it’s been raining on and off all day and the wind has been dreadful, it would be nice to have some stable weather that’s not so unpredictable

AnxiousFairyQueen · 22/07/2023 11:51

It’s a normal British summer….most people seem to have got used to the very high temperatures of recent years and they think they’re normal.

Enjoy it while you can…

afaloren · 22/07/2023 11:52

Sorry OP I love it. I do understand though, I’m miserable in hot weather so I understand the feeling of the weather getting you down.

We were told it was now tbf. Lots of this is what to expect from now on, it will only get hotter etc.

Nope333 · 22/07/2023 11:53

I like the heat I want it around 28 degrees May - September.

But that’s never gonna happen so to all the people who are enjoying this I’m pleased for you 😜

Weather is dull and non eventful (here in south east anyway) most of the year and a few weeks in June did not satisfy me!

@PurpleButterflyWings

we had some sun in May and June (although barely actually in May up in the north) - so what?!

Are we supposed to be grateful?! It’s JULY - height of summer, it should NOT be pissing it down! It’s irrelevant what it was like in May and June

Oakbeam · 22/07/2023 11:54

Earlier in this thread, I’m sure I read somebody from the south west moaning about the constant rain. Cornwall, I think.

Firefin · 22/07/2023 11:55

Love the haters 😄

Actually, most of May and parts of June were neither hot nor were they dry where I am. We had a dry spell in April, but it was still cold. July has been a complete washout so far, with 1 full day without rain (still overcast) and a few mornings where I was able to put some washing out.

I feel energised by heat and get very crabby when cold, so yes, woolly cardigan and thick socks it is. My nose is still cold, as are my fingers.

fetchacloth · 22/07/2023 11:55

BarbaraofSeville · 22/07/2023 11:47

Yes. I'm the least superstitious person there is but this is one I really believe in and it seems to have some truth in it.

There is a lot of truth to what happens on St Swithins day.
This same scenario happened in July 2021 and 2017.

Not on the Eastern side of the country it wasn’t. It was dry, but there were relentless cold north-easterly winds and overcast skies for weeks on end in May & early June. It felt more like March.

Toobusytoocare · 22/07/2023 11:55

Feel sorry for anyone having a marquee wedding or big party!

x2boys · 22/07/2023 11:55

Be cause it's the start of the summer holidays
Mind you when it wss hot a,few weeks ago everybody ,( including me )/was complaining then too🤷

Stokey · 22/07/2023 11:57

I think June was amazing but April and most of May was quite wet and cold - southeast. We went camping in May half term on the south coast and it was dry but very cold at night. This month has been ok in London but just a bit unpredictable, also humid.

I've got the summer off to coincide with the English school holidays for the first time since my kids started school - the oldest is now a teen. Was planning on booking a few days at a beach over the next fortnight but it really doesn't look worth it at the moment. Then we're off to Ireland which looks even worse! Would love early to mid 20s and dry.

Depends where you live... here in Eastern Scotland it was dry, but cold and very windy. Certainly not sunny/hot/beautiful.

Yesterday at school pick up there was a 10 minute period where the sun shone between rain showers. I saw two topless men in that time. So maybe you are on to something there.

I hat to sit next to one at football practice once. I didn’t chose to, he is a friend. He just sat right next to me!
Made my skin crawl 🤢
