Much prefer it cooler, but yea I find may and June are the better mo the. Autumn seems to be really warm too

Stressedafff · 22/07/2023 12:02

It’s not been nice here all year. No warm sunny days in March/April/Early May

It’s not even just raining either it’s cold. DD is bored, I’m bloody bored. Still in coats and long pyjamas. Still using winter duvet. Seems like summers over this year already

BBno4 · 22/07/2023 12:03

I wonder if people from the continent are coming here for a break from the heat.

Wheresthebeach · 22/07/2023 12:03

Its the wind that's doing my head in.

Exactly Spring was cold and wet. A lovely short burst of hot weather in June. Then back to cold and wet.

Maireas · 22/07/2023 12:04

It's not cold here 17°c (Yorkshire) just raining. So it's fine to go out for a walk with waterproofs. You don't need layers.

watcherintherye · 22/07/2023 12:05

Can I just say, apropos of nothing, that we were in Barcelona last November, when it was 23 - 26, during the day, and you could still sit out in the evenings. Happy memories!

LuckySantangelo35 · 22/07/2023 11:59

@afaloren

how can you love it?
its grey and pissing it down.
our door activities off the cards
yeah some people will say it’s no big deal you can wear waterproofs but who reallY wants to do that?
so how can you love it?
no judgement, just genuinely curious

I just do, why does anyone like anything? I find the sound of the rain very soothing. I find heat and sunshine very upsetting, harsh and bright and uncomfortable. I enjoy grey skies and jumpers! I have a dog and still get out and about in this weather, it doesn’t bother me Smile

Strawberrypicnic · 22/07/2023 12:06

tobee · 22/07/2023 10:15

We never seem to get summers like that anymore? Maybe we never did and it's just rose tinted spectacles? Sad

I've been thinking this too, it seems to be either too hot to go out in the sun or like this, nothing in between.

Westfacing · 22/07/2023 12:11

Just checked the weather for the next two weeks in London - more of the same grey, gloomy, drizzle, rain and max temperatures of 21C.

MinnieTruck · 22/07/2023 12:11

I don’t understand how anyone can enjoy this weather when it’s literally cold. Barely any sun and it’s just raining non stop. Not exactly summer is it

Stressedafff · 22/07/2023 12:13

I’ve got SAD so maybe I’m more sensitive to all this rain and cold but looking at the forecast for the next 10 days is just depressing me. It’s supposed to rain from today non stop through to tomorrow night as well

It’s not cold, it’s not raining. Sky is slightly grey but it’s pleasant, at least where I am. I’m wearing shorts and T-shirt.

BreatheAndFocus · 22/07/2023 12:14

IfYouDontAsk · 22/07/2023 09:13

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

I agree. That’s definitely been true over the last few years. It follows a pattern - hot in May, rain in July/August. Maybe the weather/seasons have shifted? Presumably it’s climate change and I find it worrying.

I’m not wearing shorts and a T shirt in 18 degrees weather especially when it’s gonna rain today. But hey that’s just me

But for most us the weather is wet and cold and that's what the poster was referring to. If the weather you have is pleasant then obviously you'll be enjoying it. If you had torrential rain and constantly low temperatures then would you still be saying it was enjoyable like several on this thread have done.

countrygirl99 · 22/07/2023 12:16

Our horses usually go out 24/7 at the beginning of May. This year it was the end of May because it was so wet and the grass would be wrecked. The we had weeks of dry but overcast and windy weather interspersed with a few sunny days and some absolute downpours. It was hot and sunny the 2 weeks we were away and now it's back to the same pattern as early summer but with more rain. I've got drenched poo picking 4 times in the last week. I can't very the time as I work

LaurieFairyCake · 22/07/2023 12:16

I'm in London and have been wearing a t shirt or thin dress for months! We're only getting very light showers

CoffeeBean5 · 22/07/2023 12:17

midgetastic · 22/07/2023 09:28

Why is it so bad ? Because no one acted 40 years ago

It will get worse unless people change lifestyles a lot - more extreme drought , heat , wind ( probably science less clear here ) and rains

I'm in my 20s but I know that the North West has always been really rainy all year round. That's the reason why so many cotton mills were built in the 19th century. Nothing to do with climate change. It's always rainy here.

Oblomov23 · 22/07/2023 12:17

I can't believe it either. It's mid July. It's freezing, windy, threatening to rain. We're having 10 for a bbq tomorrow. It should be boiling by now. Thoroughly pissed off.

FigTreeInEurope · 22/07/2023 12:20

Swansandcustard · 22/07/2023 09:33

I am heartily glad we’re not experiencing the heatwave that Europe is. Would not wish that on us. They’re struggling and they’re generally better set up for hot weather. Think back to last year where you could barely sleep because it was so hot.

Honestly, we live in the south of Italy, and it's no different to any other year. Its 35c today, cool breeze.

ValerieGoldberg · 22/07/2023 12:21

I don’t mind a bit of rain, but where we are it’s been pissing down non stop today and will all day tomorrow, we were hoping to get out and about, obviously we still could but it’s not the same, all the activities would have been outdoors with no shelter, the sort of thing where you’d sit out for the day with a picnic blanke 😭

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/07/2023 12:21

I'm in the SE. It's been warm but pretty cloudy. I have had to reseed half my garden and plant new beds so I have been quite grateful for the sunshine and showers because everything has grown very quickly. However, I'd like some endless sunny days now as long as the temps don't go higher than mid 20's.

MerryHen · 22/07/2023 12:21

We've just returned to Yorkshire from staying with family in the South East, definitely less rain down there!

I'm not complaining about it being cooler though. The AC in our car is irreparably broken and with the price of used cars being so high at the moment we can't really afford to replace it right now, so I was hoping for a cooler summer than last.

Sunsetandsunrise · 22/07/2023 12:24

“ Obviously none of the posters on this thread have ever lived in either Manchester or Glasgow.
Those towns are on the NW side of UK right in the line of the rain-bearing Westerlies that come off the Atlantic.”

Haha yeah I’ve lived in both those cities - I didn’t realise that was why! And yeah I always have a small umbrella in my bag. The other day I was going into Manchester was wearing sunglasses as it was so bright then a heavy rain shower started so up went the umbrella ☔️ then it would stop and sunshine would come back and repeat.

Very rainy where I am today, went to the gym and did a bit of food shopping but glad I’m back now and no plans to leave the house again until tomorrow. The good thing is though my hay fever has been practically non existent since end of June and that might partly be down to the weather!
