he's in hospital for "serious mental health issues", nothing illegal happened and lives have been ruined and for what? Murdoch hates the BBC, The Sun is a vile rag which loves nothing better than destroying people. Meanwhile we have the most corrupt government ever and it's almost like there is a news blackout

@Notsogoodhousekeeping

Ive had family members sectioned and funnily enough it hasn’t involved seedy behaviour.

Some of you are SO naive thinking he’s been sectioned. Nar, he has the funds. Mental health is BIG business. You can check in for anything you like if the funds allow. Wake up.

Well said.

The whole thing has been absolutely repulsive. The police have said there has been no crime committed as far as they are concerned. The Sun has successfully buried the far more important stories to do with bloody Boris Johnson and his phone and the Covid inquiry.

There is an "unnamed" sitting MP who has been accused of rape and who is still a sitting MP. There are numerous others who have sexual assault claims against them. Can we get some perspective? This is just a man whose unwise, but not illegal, private life choices have been smeared all over the front of the papers. He's been an idiot but I really feel for him.

Very much this

YogaLite · 12/07/2023 18:35

Agree with you @FMLWTF

NDerbys32 · 12/07/2023 18:35

@MissPop Curiosity, to see how quickly it would blow up.

Tawstrong · 12/07/2023 18:35

You cannot be admitted to an inpatient mental health hospital without being assessed first- it doesn’t matter that you’re paying. The NHS uses the priory itself for extra beds. If you’re not going through a mental health crisis you won’t be admitted. It’s not a rehab unit or retreat/ spa hotel… it’s a medical facility.

Have some compassion. He has obviously done something immoral but he has every right to be treated for medical needs.

Nobody is being 'naive' AT ALL? How odd

Why would he lose his job? Because he cheated on his wife?

If that was the case half the country would be out of work.

Or is it because he's a high profile figure who is now out of the closet?

That would be veering into homophobia territory.

This is a non story, made a story by the slime that is that rag of a "news"paper.

Paying children for sexual images is a bit more than cheating on your wife.

orangegato · 12/07/2023 18:37

What a fucking idiot. £35k for something that you can get for free.

CwmYoy · 12/07/2023 18:39

Some posters here won't be happy until he kills himself. Leave them alone.

GatoradeMeBitch · 12/07/2023 18:39

On twitter yesterday I saw a photo of him that I really didn't need to see...

I do respect that public figures are entitled to a private life, even if that involves them cheating on their spouse, it's not your business. But the possibility that he's been harassing young people online sounds unpleasant and I hope people won't be in such a hurry to have their familiar newsreader back on TV that this all gets brushed under the carpet. (And I have zero faith in The Met when it comes to vulnerable young people and powerful older men.)

PollyThePixie · 12/07/2023 18:39

Oddsockday · 12/07/2023 18:34

Well said.

Perhaps your family members weren’t sectioned with a mental health condition that could make a person inclined to stealing, being promiscuous, acting in ways that their character is considered lacking.

PhoenixIsFlying · 12/07/2023 18:39

Why are so many actually believing what they read in so called papers like The Sun. You don't know what has happened. I can't believe how people are so quick to judge when they don't know the facts.

Labtastic · 12/07/2023 18:39

Paying children for sexual images is a bit more than cheating on your wife.

Except that the fact the Met have said no criminal behaviour suggests this part of the story doesn't have any grounds?

MissPop · 12/07/2023 18:40

If people on this thread seriously think a person can’t check themselves into a private inpatient unit when the funds allow then I am dealing with stupid.

Of COURSE he’s devastated and depressed. I mean that’s a normal reaction to shame and being ‘found out’. Honestly the naivety is astounding.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 12/07/2023 18:40

E versing hanging on to every word the SUN paper is saying!!! 😆

I mean, THE SUN FGS!!!

Aubaslice · 12/07/2023 18:40

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 12/07/2023 18:23

Fuck’s sake, people. This is a man’s life and reputation ruined for no real reason. If nothing illegal happened, it’s between him and his wife. It’s not as if the “young person” has complained.
The only winners in all this are Murdoch and the Tories.

One hundred percent. It's sad that so many people are allowing The Sun a free pass on this - the paper that waited until Charlotte Church's 16th birthday to "snap" her.
And as for Lee Anderson saying the BBC is a home for perverts well his house looks like a pretty big glass box given the number of Tory MPs that are currently suspended for things like sexual assault.

SemperIdem · 12/07/2023 18:41

Do we think the newspapers will start reporting the allegations levelled against George Osbourne now?

MissPop · 12/07/2023 18:41

@PollyThePixie

but he hasn’t been sectioned though?

DeeCee77 · 12/07/2023 18:42

A knuckledragging meathead just quoted me (won't quote them). He did nothing illegal you blert.

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 12/07/2023 18:42

AlrightJulia · 12/07/2023 18:04

Yes. Clearly something major has happened to him. Awful for his family. I hope he gets the help he needs too.

Or he's using mental health as an excuse to 1. hide away and 2. make people go easy on him. Only he knows which it is.

I imagine the medical professionals treating him know as well.

So he’s rich so he can’t be genuinely suffering mental health issues?
He’s probably lost his job, his family and definitely lost his reputation and you don’t think he might be wracked with guilt and shame and teetering on the edge of a nervous breakdown? Because he’s got money?

Willmafrockfit · 12/07/2023 18:45

he has well documented depression
and this has tipped him over the edge.
