His in a mental hospital

Topseyt123 · 12/07/2023 18:07

I'm quite shocked about that. I wouldn't have guessed at him. Not that I was actively trying to guess it anyway, but I did feel that it had to come out sooner or later.

gogomoto · 12/07/2023 18:06

Perhaps it's time to let them deal with this as a family, the witch-hunt has ended. Wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Exactly. She's issued a statement on his behalf. She's asked for privacy for them. I hope they get it

Chunt · 12/07/2023 18:08

I did feel that it had to come out sooner or later

An unfortunate turn of phrase.

MissPop · 12/07/2023 18:09

We can all check ourselves in to a mental hospital with that amount of money. I don’t buy that.

pyjamalife · 12/07/2023 18:09

Not aware of him generally, but I knew he was one of their top presenters. When he was suited up and brought in, I knew the Queen's death was due to be announced, for example. Shame it's come to this.

The police have dropped it and the BBC are taking no action. Another Cliff Richard

Poor poor man

Witch-hunt can be finished. Others exonerated.

Family can deal with it in private, and good luck to them.

His wife’s statement -

"In light of the recent reporting regarding the 'BBC Presenter' I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family.
"I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.
"Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years.
"The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he'll stay for the foreseeable future.
"Once well enough to do so, he intends to respond to the stories that have been published.
"To be clear Huw was first told that there were allegations being made against him last Thursday.
"In the circumstances and given Huw's condition I would like to ask that the privacy of my family and everyone else caught up in these upsetting events is respected.
"I know that Huw is deeply sorry that so many colleagues have been impacted by the recent media speculation. We hope this statement will bring that to an end."

AtomicBlondeRose · 12/07/2023 18:11

@MissPop Yeah, it’s worded to make it sound like he’s been rushed into hospital but a stay in the Priory is an excellent way to get away from the press etc. I’ve no doubt he does have mental health issues after all of this but which of us wouldn’t want to be whisked away from all our problems after being caught out?

RumAndReisling · 12/07/2023 18:12

Rather sad.

The police have said he hadn’t done anything illegal as far as they are concerned.

A dignified statement from his wife considering the circumstances.

It sounds as though he may have been sectioned. It cannot be easy to cope with the complete collapse of your reputation (And probably career).

Not quite if allegations are true.

Time will tell.

MissPop · 12/07/2023 18:12

@AtomicBlondeRose

Exactly. If it was an NHS inpatient hospital then I would have had some sympathy. We all know it’s not.

Flatiron · 12/07/2023 18:12

AlrightJulia · 12/07/2023 18:04

Yes. Clearly something major has happened to him. Awful for his family. I hope he gets the help he needs too.

The major thing that’s happened is that the sordid details of his private like have now been made public. Yes, it’s awful for his wife and family, but I hope that his mental health issues, whatever they are, aren’t going to be used as an excuse for his behaviour.

BlueKaftan · 12/07/2023 18:13

I wish him well in his recovery.

Anyone got a link?

It's all iover pick any news or sm site

Oddsockday · 12/07/2023 18:13

I wonder if he was suffering mental health issues when he was sending abusive texts.

By the way the Priory can be classed as a mental health hospital. It's not like he has been sectioned.

User3253625 · 12/07/2023 18:14

"Receiving treatment for MH problems" seems to be the default situation with every single high profile person caught in a scandal. They disappear into a rehab centre while the smoke settles.

BBC presenters having to act surprised!

They're not surprised, nor do I see them pretending to be. Sarah Montague said to the Director General on The World at One yesterday 'Everybody in this building knows who it is'. They've known for days, and so have many non-BBC people. All the other contenders had made sure to say explicitly 'It's not me' or they turned up for work, so we knew they hadn't been suspended.

Figgygal · 12/07/2023 18:15

Maybe people can just stop going on about this now he's been named and the police have said there was nothing criminal to investigate/pursue before they hound him to bloody death

Much more important issues in this country to be concerned with

Rhondaa · 12/07/2023 18:15

TimeToRecover · 12/07/2023 18:06

His in a mental hospital

Is he or is he in a posh private 'rehabilitation' clinic where he gets to hide from everyone.

ididntwanttodoit · 12/07/2023 18:16

So he's in hiding because he can't face the fallout? Just goes to show ... can't trust a single one of them

Gettingbysomehow · 12/07/2023 18:16

I've known all week it was all over the Internet with pics. Funny how he was fine until he got caught. Left his poor wife to announce it. Why are so many men so bloody stupid. They seem to revel in fucking up everyone's lives.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/07/2023 18:17

Gosh, his poor wife.

I'm really surprised.

What a horrible situation.
