This is the person the BBC chose to do this...

FFS - Prince Andrew? She stuck by that creep.

LonginesPrime · 12/07/2023 18:46

Sounds to me like the BBC fucked up by not even telling him they'd received a complaint about him back in May until Thursday.

Sure, they might have deemed it none of their business and decided there was no need to investigate, but they could have at least informed him out of courtesy.

If they had told him back in May instead of concealing it from him, then the parents of the first person wouldn't have gone to papers and it wouldn't have blown up the way it did.

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 12/07/2023 18:46

No sympathy here, rich, privileged man gets up to no good whilst leading his dedicated wife and family astray and leading another life for years. Gets caught out, suddenly has MH issues, using this as an excuse card, dedicated wife makes excuses and stands by him.

yawn.

NotInMyFrontGardenYouDont · 12/07/2023 18:46

Huw Edwards has apparently not done anything illegal.
He has acted immorally and possibly acted in a way that could cause the BBC to end his contract - either with a payoff or because he has breached it, depending on the terms of his contract.
Vicky his wife is herself politically savvy and probably acting to save her family's livelihood as much as genuinely concerned about his well being. And probably furious about his actions.
When he is well enough - and after having time to allow his lawyers to clear up/prepare himself to face the music - he will possibly issue a candid apology or statement of regret in the hope of salvaging his career. He may litigate against The Sun.
However I doubt viewers will have much stomach watching him on TV.
So.. early retirement for Huw possibly.

If people on this thread seriously think a person can’t check themselves into a private inpatient unit when the funds allow then I am dealing with stupid.

Of COURSE he’s devastated and depressed. I mean that’s a normal reaction to shame and being ‘found out’. Honestly the naivety is astounding.

This!

Notatallanamechange · 12/07/2023 18:47

The Sun has produced no evidence to back up their claims. The police have found no evidence of criminal behaviour. Why is everyone still so keen to believe partially what they reported, and that he’s a sleaze, when they clearly got a fucking vital part of this story wrong?

lemmein · 12/07/2023 18:47

PhoenixIsFlying · 12/07/2023 18:39

Why are so many actually believing what they read in so called papers like The Sun. You don't know what has happened. I can't believe how people are so quick to judge when they don't know the facts.

Well it's either the young lad is telling the truth, nothing happened, and his parents have just made up some elaborate tale and targeted Huw Edwards of all people, for no reason at all.

Or, Huw Edwards paid a 17 year old vast sums for explicit photos and had engaged with 3 other young people inappropriately.

Which is more likely? 🙄

The point that the MET police have claimed no crime has been committed is hardly comforting considering their record!

Crikeyalmighty · 12/07/2023 18:47

@orangegato we don't know that he wasn't being blackmailed once the person realised who he was - that's a strong possibility

JamieFrasersfurrysporran · 12/07/2023 18:48

Oh well if you don't want your face plastered across the media then don't behave like he (allegedly) has

So much for being a devout Christian

Simonjt · 12/07/2023 18:36

Paying children for sexual images is a bit more than cheating on your wife.

That is a crime. The police have confirmed no crime was committed so you might want to withdraw your allegation.

Lanneederniere · 12/07/2023 18:49

Oddsockday · 12/07/2023 18:23

I'd have had a tiny bit of respect for him if he had made the statement himself. But the cowardly dirty old man hides behind his wife. More fool her.

This, 100%.

Crikeyalmighty · 12/07/2023 18:49

@Labtastic exactly my thoughts

Museya15 · 12/07/2023 18:49

Let's say it was mental health issues and that way I can get the nation's sympathy then they'll forget about me sending naughty pics to teenage girls, one being at school at the time.

Businessflake · 12/07/2023 18:50

I agree, I feel deeply sorry for him if he has serious mental health issues but that does not excuse what he has done.

what has he done, exactly? The police don’t seem concerned with his actions at all.

There are some awful people on here. Have people learnt nothing from the tragic death of Caroline Flack?

Huw has had widely reported depression in the past.

No, not “suddenly” - for years. Don’t comment unless you know what you’re talking about.

PollyThePixie · 12/07/2023 18:50

MissPop · 12/07/2023 18:41

@PollyThePixie

but he hasn’t been sectioned though?

I was replying to the point you made about having family members who’d been sectioned and who funnily enough it hadn’t made them indulge in seedy behaviour.

I was pointing out to you that the your relatives not being sectioned for something that involved seedy behavior was neither here nor there. Its irrelevant to the discussion. There are many mental health conditions that can cause people to indulge in risky or sexualised behaviour with BPD being one of them. It’s a symptom of the condition but not everyone will experience all of the symptoms. So once again - your family members being sectioned and funnily enough it not involving seedy behaviour is irrelevant.

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 12/07/2023 18:50

Can I just remind you that the Sun didn’t even fucking bother to contact the “young person” for comment, or to publish their denial when he contacted them? That is not a sign of responsible journalism.

oops, pronoun fail, but my point stands.

Anonymouseposter · 12/07/2023 18:51

This is a messy, many layered issue.
The Sun has an agenda to discredit the BBC .
Other news has been overshadowed by this.
Why did the parents go to the Sun rather than the police??
The way in which the BBC handled the parent's initial complaint needs thorough investigation.
Huw Edwards has behaved appallingly but, at this point, it seems not illegally.
We are not psychiatrists and haven't assessed him so we aren't in a position to say to what degree his mental health problems have contributed to his behaviour.
It is possible that he is currently suicidal as a result of his behaviour being exposed.
I am not excusing him but I wish people would put the pitchforks away and let his employers, health providers and the police deal with this rationally.
Perhaps other issues which have gone under the radar will now be covered on the news.

LooseInTheCity · 12/07/2023 18:18

Depression doesn’t make you pursue teenagers and young men and pay them for sexual favours while playing the part of a heterosexual married father, voice of the BBC and all round stand up guy.

I feel for his family, and I have sympathy for anyone experiencing this level of shock and intrusion and do wish him well. But he will have to face the music eventually and it’s right he should. Actions have consequences, mental illness or not.

Perhaps it's time to let them deal with this as a family, the witch-hunt has ended. Wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Onto the next person now…

The young man as far as I'm aware has not contacted anybody - his very expensive lawyers have.
