BBC Presenter and yet more allegations

1000 replies

friendlycat · 11/07/2023 23:28

It would appear that the front page of tomorrow’s The Sun has further allegations about messages with a new 17 year old. Creepy hearts etc

Scrolling through Sky news and seeing front pages of the papers. This appears bottom right on The Sun front page.

@bitnervousaboutthis the police have looked again and said there is no evidence of criminal activity. What do you expect them to do. You can’t be charged for being sleazy

Yes but i do not believe we the public have been told they completed a proper review prior to the parents going to the press, it appears the police dismissed them quite quickly and that's what led them to go to the Sun

I don't like the manipulation into feel sorry and support Huw.

When you have a career like that, it's pure arrogance to think it won't be a shitstorm - even if it turned out to be gay dating sites and he wasn't aware of the 17yr olds age. He has reported on stories similar to what he found himself in - he has had years and years to know exactly how the media and public perception operates plus all the training that goes with it. He absolutely knows had he been messaging men in their 30s/40s it would have been less of a headline

The BBC knows had they taken the complaint more seriously at the first time they were contacted they could've released a statement on Friday saying we've investigated, found no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing and therefore the investigation is over and we fully back Huw and he's back on screens on Monday

I don't wish mental health crisis on anybody but I do wish accountability on them.

Who is encouraging people to feel sorry for him? His wife spoke out probably to protect the children and his silence is explained by him being hospitalised. I think this trial by media, social media and whatever else means he will be held to account whatever the actual truth is.

If the parents can prove the age of the child when Edwards payments were allegedly made for images, I hope they will go very public with all of their evidence.

Try again. It’s very likely that the images were bought on Only Fans, and you have to provide photo ID that verifies you’re 18 or above to join as a creator.

How can you say 'try again' like the poster was wrong then say it's 'very likely' the images were purchased through onlyfans? 😅

You're all just making shit up now!

I don't get the amount of people saying the parents shouldn't have gone to the Sun, what else should they have done? They reported it to the police and the BBC and nothing happened. The only thing that matters to big organisations is reputation, it's not surprising things only stated happening with this matter when the parents when to the Sun

But what business is it of the parents really? Nothing illegal happened. They may not like their child's choices, even be very genuinely concerned for them, but they are an adult - and a consenting one by all accounts. Did this young person exchange pictures with anyone else? Have the parents gone to their employers about it?

Well his parents were afraid he was going to actually die given the volume of drugs their child was consuming paid for TV licence fee payers. So that’s a good enough reason to me.

I agree. Even the Sun allowing his wife to name Huw ahead of them smacks of a deal between PR teams and police.

lemmein · 12/07/2023 19:45

I bet the met police are thrilled the public suddenly have great confidence in them investigating sexual allegations Hmm

bitnervousaboutthis · 12/07/2023 19:45

@MissHoney85 how can you think parents would ever just say it wasn't their business surely you can't be serious? The fact parents believed that the contact between their child and Huw began when their child was 17 and that Huw paid approx £35,000 which funded their child's drug habit. I highly doubt any other individual paid as much so obviously it would be sensible to try to get them to stop.

Do you just suddenly give up on your children once they hit 17?

The Sun, how hypocritical, wasn't in the too distant past they had Sam
Fox topless on her 16th birthday or commenting on Charlotte Church being a 'big girl' at 15.

This!!! I came on here to say The Sun printed photos of a topless Sam Fox at 16! Hypocrisy at its finest!!

Oh this is getting ridiculous now, ‘paid for by TV licence fee payers’? So if I spent my wages on a kilo of coke my employer would be to blame? Or a relative who left me some inheritance? Or the national lottery if I won the cash on a scratch card? 🙄

QueefQueen80s · 12/07/2023 19:47

pintery · 12/07/2023 19:33

So - man cheats on wife (I guess), makes decisions incompatible with his employer's values (I guess), does nothing illegal and is hounded to the point of admission to a psychiatric hospital by the Sun and the moronic public. Several other lives ruined. Well done all those on here comparing this to Savile, or posting about abuse of minors, grooming, illegal underage photos, "nonce", apologists, "depraved behaviour" etc. Rupert Murdoch will be really pleased with you. What a glorious day.

Wow.
Lets just ignore it shall we.. which then gives the message that this is acceptable.. and we get more older men sleazing all over young people knowing there are no consequences or backlash.
It's taking time but lots of behaviours women had to put up with constantly are reducing over decades. Eg my mum used to get her bum pinched by strangers
This is due to examples being made of people who behave in a way we need to progress from.

What do you want to do then? Make age gaps illegal? Have only fans taken down? Make sending racy photos a criminal matter? What?

lemmein · 12/07/2023 19:48

Samantha Fox is 57 years old. Attitudes change. Not that I have any love for The Sun, they should've been shut down when the NOTW was!

It makes a difference when your salary is paid from license fee money.

You can’t present the news when your scandal overshadows the news.

Edwards is paid a small fortune to be the face of the bbc, the bbc is funded by the public. So where do you think the money came from??

Us!!

Incredibly we are paying for this. Saville too.

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 19:46

Of course not but the age of consent is the age of consent. There's no grey area. It's icky but it's legal (assuming no images were shared before the individual turned 18, which given the lack of police involvement we can assume is the case).

Teachers are paid via taxation. Should they be held to this standard? I agree his position is now untenable.

bellac11 · 12/07/2023 19:52

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 19:18

Did they?

Where are you getting this from, do you know the family or something?

Blossomtoes · 12/07/2023 19:52

Saville’s been dead for over a decade.

bitnervousaboutthis · 12/07/2023 19:52

@Lacucuracha agreed, a news presenter potentially questioning the actions of a politician or other high profile people surely needs to have a decent reputation to have any respect

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 19:52

Blossomtoes · 12/07/2023 19:50

There is no way Huw would be off the telly if The Sun didn’t have evidence.

And even BBC News have confirmed the threatening messages to person 2 were sent from Huw’s phone.
