BBC Presenter and yet more allegations

1000 replies

friendlycat · 11/07/2023 23:28

It would appear that the front page of tomorrow’s The Sun has further allegations about messages with a new 17 year old. Creepy hearts etc

Scrolling through Sky news and seeing front pages of the papers. This appears bottom right on The Sun front page.

Edwards is paid a small fortune to be the face of the bbc, the bbc is funded by the public. So where do you think the money came from??

Us!!

Incredibly we are paying for this. Saville too.

So the same goes for teachers, nurses, job centre employees... Only able to spend money on tax payer approved purchases?

Blossomtoes · 12/07/2023 19:54

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 19:52

There is no way Huw would be off the telly if The Sun didn’t have evidence.

And even BBC News have confirmed the threatening messages to person 2 were sent from Huw’s phone.

Person 2 wouldn’t have suddenly popped up if The Sun hadn’t run the story. And why did it not publish the name if it could stand the story up?

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 19:55

bellac11 · 12/07/2023 19:52

Did they?

Where are you getting this from, do you know the family or something?

Because it was reported:

She said: "My child told me, ‘I have shown things’ and this was a picture from some kind of video call.
“We’ve always had a close relationship.
“My child would be like, ‘Oh, the presenter is giving me money later,’ or, ‘He’s giving me £500.’ and ‘I’m going out tonight because he’s given me money’.”
I didn’t like what I was being told but I didn’t want my child to stop confiding in me.
“The presenter never hid his job.
“He even sent a picture of his desk at work to my child which I saw.”

Would you also like to tell all the teachers, NHS, etc how to spend their salaries also

Teachers are paid via taxation. Should they be held to this standard? I agree his position is now untenable.

Weird comparison. Teachers aren’t allowed to share naked pictures with pupils.

Yes of course teachers are also accountable. If a teacher did this you would rightly expect them to be prosecuted and face disciplinary proceedings.

It might not be so high profile but the same outcome would be expected of anyone in a position of trust/authority exploiting teenagers. The public have the right to expect a minimum base line of standards and decency.

I’m pretty sure that any teacher caught downloading Those kind of images in their pants would be in pretty hot water.

Really?? The only threshold here is 'not illegal'?

You don't think that someone in a position of power, influence & authority as Huw Edwards was, does not have a requirement to act a bit better than 'not illegal'?

His engagement with this young person - a 17 yo! - is repugnant. The level of apologist support for him on Twiiter from other media figures is horrifying.

RedToothBrush · 12/07/2023 19:57

MeToo was a whole movement built off the back of people finding courage to come forward because others had.

Was that bollocks too?

Mothers never lie obviously 🙄 I’d be interested to know if they’ve been paid for this.

I wouldn’t need to tell them, any teacher or doctor behaving in this way would also face prosecution and/or disciplinary proceedings.

Naive to think the teen couldn’t have hidden this from their mum if they wanted to.

I don't get the amount of people saying the parents shouldn't have gone to the Sun, what else should they have done? They reported it to the police and the BBC and nothing happened. The only thing that matters to big organisations is reputation, it's not surprising things only stated happening with this matter when the parents when to the Sun

What they should have done is make sure that they are enabling and empowering their adult child to make links with/access MH services and drug misuse services to ensure that any drug use is as safe and reduced as it can possibly be, finding out what replacement substances could be used, making sure any needles are fresh and clean, making sure there is someone round them perhaps when buying and selling takes place of the drugs, making sure if possible that the young person isnt involved in dealing or recruiting as much as possible, are they using a regular dealer or just anyone?

And thats only if the young person consents to their involvmenet to that level, this is a 20 year old by all accounts

They can also try to make sure that any means by which they make their income is as safe as it can be if they insist on gaining money for substances by using sex work, so not meeting clients in person, not acting as escorts, not giving out personal details etc etc, again linking them up with support services and resources who can advise and guide them

But all of the above can only really be achieved if the person themselves wants it, and consents to engaging with the help offered.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the same standards from Huw Edwards as I would for teachers or adults volunteering with teenagers and young adults.

Teachers get fired pretty regularly for social media faux pas I think
E.g.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/physics-teacher-resigns-after-pupils-7894089.amp

I work for a tech company but have a specific clause in my contract saying I can lose my job if I bring the company into disrepute

Why are we pretending it's a scandal if he loses his job over this?

Physics teacher resigns as pupils find her Only Fans pics online

She now plans to work as a private tutor while prioritising her OnlyFans work

I'm gobsmacked at how some are spinning this. Its like we have buzz words that cancel each other out.. Mental health trumps abuse of young people girls.

What about if cruise young girl's turn our to be trans, does that cancel out mental health?

The bottom of line is he's sleezy and has used his position to try and bully young girls into meeting him

lemmein · 12/07/2023 20:02

As a mum, if I found out a 60 year old rich man was paying my 17 year old for explicit pics I'd ruin him by any means possible - even if I had to use The Scum to do it!

Yes when it comes to throwing around libellous accusations, I'd say the law is the threshold. I personally find it gross and icky but it's the private life of two consenting adults. It seems like young people over the age of 16 are children when it suits the narrative and adults when it doesn't, but the law is the law and there aren't grey areas.

3BSHKATS · 12/07/2023 20:08

Sarah Jayne Dunn had to resign from Hollyoaks for being on onlyfans. Perhaps its Different rules for her

They would not fave prosecution any more than. HE is. Disciplinary proceedings yes, because they have a legal Duty of Care towards their students / patients in a way that a newsreader doesn't.

No the law is very clear. Its 18 in this matter

I don't think that's compatible with building a culture where people with less power can live free from sexual abuse and harassment.....

Ok, but how does that translate to wanting the whole world to know, which was my initial point - the young person didnt want this made public or for there to be an 'outing' as such

Indeed, but as the police aren't pursuing inquiries I think we can infer that the individual was 18 when images were shared.
