BBC Presenter and yet more allegations

1000 replies

friendlycat · 11/07/2023 23:28

It would appear that the front page of tomorrow’s The Sun has further allegations about messages with a new 17 year old. Creepy hearts etc

Scrolling through Sky news and seeing front pages of the papers. This appears bottom right on The Sun front page.

When they do it with minors. Yes

Who was the minor?

Juanmartinez · 12/07/2023 18:12

How deeply could the police go with their enquiries, given that they were just looking into it and not investigating? Were they able to look at every ones phone, laptops, bank statements etc or would they have had to get warrants and therefore it would have been a full investigation?

His wife just named him

I don't quite know how to take the fact that his wife named him. It's on his behalf. But she's a journalist.

It's pretty cowardly to get your wife to do it but on the other hand her career matters too.

She works on Peston. For ITV.

AngelsForever · 12/07/2023 18:13

It’s Huw edwards I’ve seen a few posts on Twitter his wife has said he is receiving in-patient hospital care for the foreseeable future

lapisamethyst · 12/07/2023 18:14

Don't find it cowardly at all. It's supportive and kind.

'The judgment was based on lies' is quite the outlandish statement, unless you sat through the entire trial and are competent, at a very senior level, to make similar judgments to those the Judge came to, as based on the evidence heard.

I'm not. I'm merely citing that judgment. And the judgment upheld by the British court was that The Sun's content was substantially true.

An attempt WAS made to make them accountable for their content. It failed.

The judgement was based on her testimony which were lies. The judge even said as she had donated her divorce settlement that showed her not to be a gold digger. ‘contention that Heard was a "gold-digger", saying in his ruling: "Her donation of the seven million US dollars to charity is hardly the act one would expect of a gold-digger." As we now know she never donated a penny.
I felt we in the UK & our justice system was held in high regard after this happened proved how unfair it was. How could the Sun’s headlines be sustainably true when she lied to them & the court upheld that.

3BSHKATS · 12/07/2023 18:15

I can almost hear her humming stand by your man in the background …. These women are equally part of the problem.

pinklama · 12/07/2023 18:15

Yes, men are arrogant bastards which is why they take these risks, dress up as women so they can continue their shitty behaviour under the 'trans' umbrella.

But at the end of the day he is not the first man on the planet to pay for naked pictures of whoever and the person in the picture sounded like they were a willing and consenual participant. It is just they spent their cash on cocaine which upset their mum.

But I do object to all this been driven by gutter tabloid press who are the last people on the planet to be taking a moral high ground.

DrBlackbird · 12/07/2023 18:15

SerafinasGoose · 12/07/2023 18:10

Exactly this. They're thumbing their noses, as though to make the public statement 'you see me, I'm doing this in plain sight, and I'm so powerful there is nothing you can do to stop me!'

It's tantamount to 'no one will believe you if you report me', just a broader and far more public gesture.

The arrogance is next-level.

Yes probably arrogance. But also this feels aligned with a strong streak of self destruction. Johnson is pure arrogance. But what HE has done also feels like he’s hit the self destruct button. That’s what I mean by fatally flawed. He’s an intelligent man who engaged in incredibly destructive and damaging behaviour both to others and himself.

Tbf for Jeremy vine, he was vilified and places like Twitter are vile.
No wonder he is / was angry.
I think most people would be

Jeremy Vine is a total arse. He says Huw Edwards is a friend. He shouldn't have been giving information about him at all. I agree with Richard Bacon.

treneton · 12/07/2023 18:17

Persecuted by The Sun for the crime of using a gay dating site.

Pandor · 12/07/2023 18:18

It all feels desperately sad, horrible for the family and an awful way to end a previously distinguished career.

I think The Sun have a lot to answer for in this. Their reporting suggested criminal behaviour with minors, something the police clearly feel different about as they say there is no evidence of criminality.

That reporting kicked off the initial hysteria and calls of “nonce” that got the mob going. They should have shown far more responsibility and at the very least printed that the alleged victim denied the allegations that were being made by his parents and which don’t appear to have been supported by evidence.

Take away the criminal conduct element of the story and ultimately it is all just sordid gossip.

This thread is not about Jonny Depp, or who told lies or didn't tell lies in that case.

Caring not one iota about the minutiae of that case: it was a poor example to quote. The Sun's libel trial was certainly not comparable evidence - or evidence at all - of an unsubstantiated newspaper witch hunt in this case, when the court in that one found in the newspaper's favour!

Juanmartinez · 12/07/2023 18:19

So, a man in the public eye has a private life. The Sun have destroyed his reputation over behaviour, which though some may find distasteful, appears to have been perfectly legal. I'm bound to wonder if this has been an agenda, driven by Murdoch, to bring the BBC down.

StefanosHill · 12/07/2023 18:20

The more men feel protected the more they’ll think it’s fine and a BBC household name is pretty up there for status and cosseting

I’d say other men will learn from it but I doubt it

PomRuns · 12/07/2023 18:20

Oh Vine has been rubbing his hands with glee. Awful man.

I think the big issue for me is that what came out after the initial reports, was that the Sun were contacted by the first young person, BEFORE they ran the story, they were contacted by the young person to say, this is not true/Im not making a complaint (or whatever they said)

And they still ran the story, when it wasnt their story to run or tell.

Persecuting two people, HE and the young person together.

Well hopefully as others have said she kicks his sorry arse out as PS wife should have instead of continuing that charade and condoning his actions
