Is this still a tea time favourite or left in the 1970s?

1970s

Yarnorama · 09/07/2023 20:08

A favourite here.

Kangarude · 09/07/2023 20:08

Still my favourite, but I don't have it very often. I also like to add a slice of ham. Yum!

MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff · 09/07/2023 20:09

Don't have it very often but when I do I savour it!

isthewashingdryyet · 09/07/2023 20:09

We have chips and egg, and it is a favourite, specially in the winter.

do make our own oven chips/wedges though

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 09/07/2023 20:10

I love egg and chips, DH thinks it's overrated and DD hates egg yolk 😫

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2023 20:12

Love it. Have it with the Christmas ham.

Covidiokilledtheradiostar · 09/07/2023 20:12

The kids and I love it. I usually make homemade chunky chips. Reminds me of my grandparents was always a “treat” supper when I visited

Greenfree · 09/07/2023 20:12

I have this as a treat tea, sometimes with gammon, sausages or beans

Coronationstation · 09/07/2023 20:13

Ooh yes! Don’t do it often but every so often I do a ham in the slow cooker and use the leftovers up with egg and chips (oven chips though)

I'd not thought trying it that way, we only ever have egg and chips - I will try it next time.

its a favourite here and so quick and easy

A favourite for me here.
I love the occasional runny fried eggs, some chips, some ketchup and white bread and butter.
What's not to like?!

DamaskRosie · 09/07/2023 20:13

Food of the gods.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/07/2023 20:14

Oh god it’s the food of the gods. I want it now.

isthewashingdryyet · 09/07/2023 20:15

@LoisPrice sometimes I have egg and chips and himself has chips and egg🙄
makes life much more interesting

Thebigblueballoon · 09/07/2023 20:15

Gorgeous, if the chips and eggs are good quality. Instantly think of Shirley Valentine when I hear it.

Thebigblueballoon · 09/07/2023 20:17

Well, chips and egg.

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 09/07/2023 20:19

My first boyfriend’s mum used to do the best deep fried chips, fried egg and ham. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten it since we broke up but I definitely wouldn’t say no. It does feel like a very English dinner 😁

My situation but reversed (I think it's meh, DP loves it, our son hates yolk!)

RobertsRadio · 09/07/2023 20:21

I love egg and chips, even better ham, egg and chips. Admittedly I don't have it regularly because I don't often buy oven chips and I have never owned a deep fat fryer, but it's a favourite when eating out. Delicious.

I always remember reading in a magazine interview Twiggy saying egg and chips was her favourite meal and that no one made it like her Mum.

runwithme · 09/07/2023 20:23

I wasn't to keen on it, but DS had eggs, fries and serrano ham in Barcelona once and it was a game changer. So nice!

TomatoSandwiches · 09/07/2023 20:24

When you have a hankering for egg and chips nothing else will do tbh, has to be homemade crinkle cut chips for me though and plenty of salt.

fetchacloth · 09/07/2023 20:26

One of my favourites. Even 50 years later 😁

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 09/07/2023 20:27

Oooh yum!! I had a distinctly underwhelming stir fry for dinner and now I want egg and chips instead

LaDeeDa123 · 09/07/2023 20:27

A classic and it’s demise is the ultimate example of how we have lost touch with proper food in the UK. It’s cheap, relatively nutritious and quick to make but people would rather order a takeaway or eat some rubbish they’ve heated up in the microwave.
