Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

and why do we can about this Mared person?

What? I don't understand what you mean

bellac11 · 09/07/2023 19:57

Well if you were asked and you knew it was the person, you have 2 options, deny it and then say later you were mistaken, or ignore the question which might invite speculation as to why you hadnt answered

I suppose you can try to say you genuinely dont know but most peopl eat the BBC will know surely

WhisperingAutistic · 09/07/2023 19:57

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 19:56

care

Because she's a presenter/journalist who works at the BBC and knows who the person is? Confused

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 19:57

you can't read mared tweet's unless you follow her.

adriftabroad · 09/07/2023 19:58

Never heard of her

Dimondsareforever · 09/07/2023 19:58

Tap into FB and you will see one name that comes up again and again.

bellac11 · 09/07/2023 19:58

She shouldnt have answered like that I think. Its not really appropriate.

Can I ask a question? While you are all frothing at the mouth to find out the details... Are any of you giving any thought to how this frenzy will play out?

If this carries on you are going to end up with a dead 20yr old.

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 20:08

Haven’t read the full thread but incase it hasn’t been mentioned Thursdays edition of popbitch has an interesting bit in it about this sort of thing

I dont think the majority of people are frothing to find out the details. Im not

But at the end of the day, a major newspaper has reported it, BBC news (for some reason that I cant fathom) has chosen to make it the biggest story yesterday and today in its bulletins, I dread to think what its like on the rolling news

Today they had 2 (2!!!) people to comment with Clive Mirie about the possible issues/situation/prognosis, as if it were a major political sitaution or war had broken out somewhere

I dont think users of a forum can be expected not to talk about a major news story

I think the mother of the young person should also have considered waht the fall out might be.

booktokbear · 09/07/2023 20:11

bellac11 · 09/07/2023 18:51

Well that would require an open police investigation to enable the police to arrest the suspect, place them on bail and as part of the conditions require their phone/devices for checking

But how do you get that bit off the ground if the young person says 'no I dont want to speak to police, I dont want to file a victim statement, I dont want to take this further and am not complying'

Wheres the evidence then for your arrest?

Well in this case the BBC have contacted the police and the BBC have the photos from the Mum, or indeed the Mum can provide them to the police.

FiddleLeaf · 09/07/2023 20:13

BBC have to make it their biggest story. Any lower and it’ll look like another Saville coverup.

Oh & those commenting on News at 10, Clive’s usually on Sunday’s and he’s been on throughout the weekend.

adriftabroad · 09/07/2023 20:15

Yes, I expect the mother, on a whim, for absolutely no money, did not consider the fall out.

bellac11 · 09/07/2023 20:17

booktokbear · 09/07/2023 20:11

They cant consider that as evidence unless its part/within an investigation.

I am making an assumption that the young person is not involved in reporting this, if she is then thats different. But you cant go to the police with some pictures and say this is my daughter when she was 17, she sent these pictures to someone, please record this as a crime and oopen an investigation. Well you can but without the daughter there is little the police can do, they hvae no idea or proof of who that person is, or where the mother got the photos.

(I dont know if the young person is boy or girl, just using girl for shorthand)

We can't all be held hostage by the threat of suicide to stop us from talking about issues. That is the abusers playbook- people can't act without decency and with impunity and expect people to #bekind and turn a blind eye to deprived behaviour. Then Internet posters say that 'we never learn 'but the reality is those that wish to abuse power never learn.

I do not think she gave/gives a shit about prosecution or money
