Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

I mean, really, the identity of this scum bag isn't the most interesting thing.

Why it keeps happening in showbiz is the issue that needs attention but the again I keep thinking maybe the opportunities are better if you're a pervert who happens to have fans, and maybe it was ever thus. Maybe travelling minstrels and music hall stars also had a proportion of sleaze bags. The egos are big enough in entertainment industry for sexual offending to be a pattern.

It's a big money industry and people want a piece of the pie. Many see it as an easy way to earn a living and in their naivety get taken advantage of by scumbags.

gonutkin · 09/07/2023 00:16

@JeandeServiette very true!

Yes normally it's fans, or interns or runners or lowly production assistants isn't it?

They tend to be naive and people pleasers so of course a big ego is going to swoop in and lap that up. I'm glad they're being held more accountable now.

Yes maybe they have more opportunity. Although you might think they would also have a lot to lose.

Always some sleazy bloke. 🤮

I don't see how they'll keep it quiet for long.

How can they reassure everyone it's dealt with if they maintain secrecy? If police prosecute it will eventually come out anyway. Something or other will break the story.

Genuinely interested- what do you think police would prosecute for?? As far as I can see, absolutely nothing illegal has happened. Distasteful, possibly, and may be in breach of BBC employment contact MAYBE but nothing illegal.
Think real care needs to be taken here- to not all the facts to be discarded in the face of a good sleazy story…

Did I read this victim spent all the money in crack? Some serious sounding drug habit, anyway. So really vulnerable.

True true. I always think radio host rather than presenter.

The Sun article says it’s TV.

JeandeServiette · 09/07/2023 00:25

Isn't possessing explicit images of under 18s a criminal offence? "Causing them to be made" or similar probably a distinct crime on top(?). Potentially several counts of each?

WhiteFire · 09/07/2023 00:26

The Sun is absolutely at fault for publishing this story. It has dragged every male presenter into this and the knuckle draggers are relishing in it.

beckyre · 09/07/2023 00:32

Yes @JeandeServiette the mum says bbc presenter was funding her sons crack cocaine habit. Transferring hundred's, sometimes £1000's to his bank which he spent on drugs

So, what am I not allowed to say? Obv no names or initials etc.
Am I allowed to guess at how the distancing by bbc may look? Or will that make it too easy to guess who I think it is...?

Beckyn22 · 09/07/2023 00:34

The offences would be under Child Sexual Exploitation and making/being in possession of indecent images. Young people are protected under these laws up to age 18.

JeandeServiette · 09/07/2023 00:34

I'd love to know what you think the distancing would look like @beckyre

Can you say it in a way that doesn't point the finger at an individual?

I don’t think it’s just showbiz, I think it’s just men. A certain percentage of men, when they get any power, will use it to indulge their fetishes by exploiting the vulnerable. There’s just more public interest when it’s famous people so it seems like it’s an industry problem. It’s a men problem.

beckyre · 09/07/2023 00:44

Emmm I can try!! @JeandeServiette

I suspect the bbc will say that they haven't wanted to employ this person for a while. The person has had redundancy offers a few times and recently getting public telling offs and making apologie

Can we PM initials or will I get in trouble 😬

gemstoneju · 09/07/2023 00:44

As soon as posters start suggesting names of men who have not already issued denials, this thread too will be popped.

JeandeServiette · 09/07/2023 00:48

I'm on the app @beckyre so I can't get PMs anyway Smile

Probably best not to say more.

I don't think I'd understand hints anyway.

Is the teen male? I didnt think it had been disclosed either way. The Sun (not son) is mentioned a lot.

kizziee · 09/07/2023 00:52

In these situations the tabloids sometimes start to publish random stories about people involved without actually linking them. Almost like a game of ' we want to let you know that we know - even though we can't tell you that we know'
