TV presenter allegations

Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

OP posts:

Performing artists have always had a reputation for having a dissolute lifestyle. Modern media has in some ways made it worse but in other ways made it more easily exposed.

Politics is very similar.

The artiste/politician gets surrounded by people who always say yes to any whim or desire. Normal friendships fall away because these require work and are reciprocal.

Need something to appear lively first thing in the morning? Need a little pick-me-up? No problem. A true friend would point out over indulgence. Sycophants oblige but keep a note.

Sexual wants and whims are obliged in the same way. The 'talent' is indulged while they are on the way up. There is money to pay for whatever is wanted but note is always kept.

Eventually the money dries up. The sycophants may just move onto the next 'talent'. Alternatively they look for a last big payday, get their notebooks out and start contacting the press.

Personally I think it’s all made up.

so shoot me, but the mum of what is now an adult speaking to the sun? Nope. I question her motives.

HappiDaze · 09/07/2023 02:47

Her motive is that it's fucked up her DS MH

Nagado · 09/07/2023 02:51

I do feel dreadfully sorry for the completely innocent people who are getting dragged into this. That’s got to be a real conundrum, being faced with either ‘well they aren’t denying it’ or drawing absolutely everyone’s attention to the fact that your name has been brought into it.

I read an article earlier that definitely referred to the sixteen year old as a male.

I don’t think any of these big tv companies give a shit what their stars get up to, all the time it’s kept hushed up and they’re bringing in the high viewing figures. It’s only when someone kicks up enough of a fuss that the papers decide to report it that they ever do anything. It happens over and over again and each time, people are speaking out to say that everyone knew what was happening but turned a blind eye.

Jesus fucking Christ.

Have you actually read any of the articles? Because the 30 second glimpse I’ve just taken at those in the Sun make it very clear that she wasn’t paid for speaking to them and that she and her family had previously complained to the BBC and asked them to stop the man from doing it, but that it was still happening and he was still on air. If you genuinely can’t see what her motives for going public are, then I hope to God you never get picked for jury duty.

Dita73 · 09/07/2023 04:50

What kind of mother who’s child is being exploited goes to The Sun rather than the police?

DreamTheMoors · 09/07/2023 04:53

TheLeadbetterLife · 09/07/2023 00:39

I don’t think it’s just showbiz, I think it’s just men. A certain percentage of men, when they get any power, will use it to indulge their fetishes by exploiting the vulnerable. There’s just more public interest when it’s famous people so it seems like it’s an industry problem. It’s a men problem.

It’s power. Power corrupts.

The former U.S. president was found liable by a jury of six men & three women this past May of sexual abuse and defamation and fined $5M.
Add to that another 26 or 27 women who have accused him of sexual assault. Their stories are all disturbingly similar. Three of those women testified at his trial.
Those men in power feel entitled to take what they want when they want it, and don’t see a problem with it.

People go to the police all the time and nothing is done. The victim might be refusing to cooperate or has begged mum not to go to them. She complained to the bbc and nothing was done. Maybe she recently saw that the sun wrote about Phillip Schofield and he’s now not on tv anymore and thought she would see if they could do it again.

WhiteFire · 09/07/2023 00:26

The Sun is absolutely at fault for publishing this story. It has dragged every male presenter into this and the knuckle draggers are relishing in it.

Do "knuckle draggers" include the speculators relishing the gossip and drama on MN threads.

Sorry, but talk about pot calling the kettle black!

Genuinely interested- what do you think police would prosecute for?? As far as I can see, absolutely nothing illegal has happened. Distasteful, possibly, and may be in breach of BBC employment contact MAYBE but nothing illegal.
Think real care needs to be taken here- to not all the facts to be discarded in the face of a good sleazy story…

We are talking about obscene images of a child, that's not legal.

And the fact it comes from a publication that was happy to put half naked photos of girls on page 3 does not escapes irony.

An exasperated one that is getting nowhere with the police id imagine

Sadly very often status and wealth can mean the police don’t take things seriously so perhaps she had no other choice

agree - person sending pics an adult.
personally am amazed anyone would pay anyone anything for such pics.
am sure many on mumsnet have sent certain pics, albeit for free.

Museya15 · 09/07/2023 06:30

The child in question is a female and it's a news reader.

LunaNorth · 09/07/2023 06:30

I liked seeing Top BBC star on TV until my child showed me pictures of him on his sofa in his pants

Interesting use of random capital T in The Sun’s headline, there.

Might be an illiterate journo…on the other hand, might be one of those sneaky clues.

julylover · 09/07/2023 06:31

I don’t know much about libel, but I thought you were allowed to name someone providing what you are saying is true. If the mother has concrete evidence of what is going on (I think she mentioned photos and bank transfers) why can’t she name the person to the media?

Also, why is her child’s sex not disclosed I wonder? Is it because she wants to protect his or her identity as much as possible (understandable) or does her child use they/them pronouns?

VisionsOfSplendour · 09/07/2023 06:33

Do you know the youth? It seems very unlikely from the wording of the articles that its a girl

The law has been explained numerous times on this thread and others, as is also explained in many of the newspapers available online today. These are potentially serious offences, as they started when the young person was an under-18.

This is going to be like people defending Andrew over Virginia Giuffre and refusing to understand ‘trafficking’, isn’t it?

GeneJeanie · 09/07/2023 06:42

A lot of posters discussing how/why power and fame and money corrupt people. But it's not people is it? It's predominantly men.

Dita73 · 09/07/2023 06:43

The mother would also have got a massive lump some from selling the story. The kid has been through so much yet you’re prepared to go The Sun to get some kind of justice for the other person’s wrongdoing even if it means exposing your child to the tabloid press?!

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 06:44

there is a non deleted thread about this already

Goldfoot · 09/07/2023 06:48

Yesterday's thread is still up.

I think I know, from the many hints that commentators have made about who it isn't. If I'm right it is properly shocking, but I'm probably not.

rwalker · 09/07/2023 06:49

Ironic that the sun report this when they were more than had to pay the likes of Sam fox and Kerry Latonia at 16 to get there tits out

it’s completely unsavoury but there’s very limited one sided info from a mother desperate to find someone to blame for there child’s drug problem

The mother claims she didn't ask for payment and went to the press because she was frustrated at the lack of action from the BBC - the man still on air despite proof of his actions being provided.

It's not the way I'd have handled it (I don't think) but the police don't have a great track record for dealing with these things quickly either. Going to the press did get some immeadiate action from the BBC.

AutumnCrow · 09/07/2023 06:56

She may have known a Sun reporter or editor, and not trusted the police for all we know. Who would 100% trust the Met? Or another sub-par force? They have form for letting down victims and their families.

I guess we’ll know eventually.
