Unexpected guests are about to walk into your house.

How tidy/visitor ready is your house?

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/07/2023 15:51

Absolutely pristine ,they could open every drawer too as I've just finished an almighty de clutter which has taken a loooong time!

RobertsRadio · 07/07/2023 15:52

It's not, it's a tip. Also I'm laying on the bed semi naked trying to cool down. So, no-one is coming in today, no-one. I just wouldn't answer the door.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 07/07/2023 15:53

It isn't and nor am I!

Maddy70 · 07/07/2023 15:53

The cleaner has just left. It's perfect. Give it an hour!

Qbish · 07/07/2023 15:54

7/10.

So long as they don't want to stay the night. The spare room is currently my office.

MsChatterbox · 07/07/2023 15:56

Yesterday pristine. Today a bomb site. Oh the joys of kids!

Dacadactyl · 07/07/2023 15:56

I'd not be mortified if someone turned up now, but its not as tidy as id want it if i knew someone was coming. Today I could get it visitor ready in about half an hour if I had to.

Azaeleasinbloom · 07/07/2023 15:57

drop by for a cup of tea ? Fine. Expect to stay overnight - good god no.

TeenLifeMum · 07/07/2023 15:57

It’s perfect… because cleaner came earlier and inlaws are about to arrive.

LauraNorda · 07/07/2023 15:58

Visitors, if they are lucky enough to get through the door, either have to take it or leave it.

I don't care which.

MeMeMeMeAndMoreMe · 07/07/2023 15:59

It's a mess. No clean dishes. The sofa is naked - and the removable bits are on the washing line. The bathroom floor is covered in washing.

Anyone who knows me would expect chaos.

Same here.

Backstreets · 07/07/2023 16:00

Pretty immaculate tidying wise… but filthy tho so they hopefully won’t look to close

VWFF · 07/07/2023 16:01

Also. Depending how many hours ago I hoovered I'd panic because one of the dogs sheds a lot.

Caravanvirgin · 07/07/2023 16:02

Kitchen floors needs washing but that doesn’t worry me. Playroom is a mess but there supposed to be.

FaeWings · 07/07/2023 16:04

If they walked in now I wouldn't be mortified.

If I had 20 minutes notice I'd tidy the stuff dumped in the dining room and hover downstairs.

If they are staying over night I'd need to change the bedding.

Not too bad but these hypothetical guests have caught me on a good day.

UsingChangeofName · 07/07/2023 16:04

How tidy/visitor ready is your house?

Two completely separate questions.

Visitors are always welcome in my house.

If they rang the bell now, they would have to clamber round all the stuff my dd has started piling up in the hall to load into her car first thing in the morning.
If they came into the kitchen, they would - shock horror - see that there are a couple of things waiting to be washed up, sitting on the side near the sink.
If they went into our dining room they would see all the stuff that is to do with our volunteering, that is in transit somewhere.

So, if you are looking for tidy, then no, we are far from that.
If you are looking for welcome, then any time. People I know either come round for meetings about something, or they just come to spend time with us because they like our company. I don't think I know anyone that would expect my house to be spruced up / looking like a show home if they popped round. This is where we live.

PopsicleHustler · 07/07/2023 16:04

Not great. been planning a massive clean down Ocd attack today and have been mostly feeding the baby and then doing bits and bobs here and there gradually.

Still tackling laundry as we had a flood on Wednesday and loads of piles of laundry that are on the floor in hampers got soaked through. I have been scrubbing carpets and rugs like no tomorrow all in-between breastfeeding a bruiser of a baby.

So, if visitor's came I would ignore the door.
I hate it when people turning up unannounced.
I like being prepared for visitor's.

HotdogCat · 07/07/2023 16:05

Right now it’s all good, we have family arriving 2mo. Normally, not so much

ElizaWinter · 07/07/2023 16:06

Nah not great - my house needs a good tidy up.

The weather is too nice to be inside cleaning so I've been concentrating on the garden today, strimming my scraggy bush..

Come over for tea in the garden instead though! ☕️

DyslexicPoster · 07/07/2023 16:07

Hideously untidy. Bordering criminally untidy if that's such a thing. It's clean. But if my sons disability socail worker knocked on the door I think it would trigger something.

But she only comes about 3 times a if I was growing weed she wouldn't notice.

My mums funeral was least week and life has gone to shit honestly.

I have piles of kids clothes to get rid of so at least it's sorted to go and in bags.

itsgettingweird · 07/07/2023 16:07

On a Friday evening? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Luckily we go out because no very.

Best time for unexpected visitors would be mid Sunday afternoon.

Actually only then. It's chais again by Monday 🫣🤣🤣

rookiemere · 07/07/2023 16:08

Depends who the visitors are.

The throws on the sofas are pretty ropey because we have neighbours coming for dinner tomorrow so i'm going to swap them then otherwise rookiedog will get them mucky. Ditto kitchen floor. The rest of it is superficially clean if a bit grubby.

Thankfully most of my guests have low standards. I'm on another thread where apparently people rewash perfectly clean sheets so they smell fresh for visitors. This is several levels beyond my own hospitality.

CMOTDibbler · 07/07/2023 16:08

Its Friday afternoon, so its totally visitor ready. As it is on Tuesday afternoons. If you don't come on the days the cleaner does, then it needs an hours notice
