Unexpected guests are about to walk into your house.

How tidy/visitor ready is your house?

I am no domestic goddess . House is hygienic but untidy . Just been away with a relative who was telling me how OCD she is an how everything has a place . I have visited her house many times and it makes me feel better about mine . I guess she has rose tinted glasses . I must get some . You would always be offered a brew and a biscuit though at our house so not all bad

HelpMeGetThrough · 07/07/2023 17:32

As long as there is that and somewhere to sit down, all is good.

Chocolate digestive please Grin

LadyJ2023 · 07/07/2023 17:34

Even with 3 toddlers our house is always presentable occasionally the odd basket of washing still not put away but hey so what. Change the beds of chuck duvets on sofas and there always welcome

Tarkan · 07/07/2023 17:35

At the moment it's passable but not great as I've been sorting some stuff out. We're actually having people over tomorrow so it'll be perfect in the morning.

Greentree1 · 07/07/2023 17:42

Not at all when it happened recently, friends from years ago who had moved a long way away 'were just passing', and dropped in on the off chance. I think they tried not to notice! Not our finest hour, but at least we were in the garden working to cut back the jungle at the time, the house however...

Proudofitbabe · 07/07/2023 17:54

8/10. Clean and hoovered, minimal clutter but kids are back so a couple of bits out on view. I'd be happy for a visitor to see the house like this.

My mortification would be anyone surprising ME, sunbathing in garden straps down, no bra, no makeup, shit hair!

CurlewKate · 07/07/2023 17:55

Depends on who they are!

Rubyupbeat · 07/07/2023 17:56

Not at all, carpet not hoovered for 3 days, which in my gaff is disastorous as I have 2 big very hairy, moulting dogs and we need hoovering everyday, plus I have lots of sewing stuff out, which should be in sewing room. I am actually not too well, so my attitude has been, SOD IT.

Rubyupbeat · 07/07/2023 17:59

Although, my best friends and family wouldn't care what it's like, so yes, I suppose its always visitor ready.

troppibambini6 · 07/07/2023 18:00

It's clean and tidy and all the washing and ironing is done.
I do it in the week as I'm a sahm and I want to enjoy the weekends with the kids.
If I was working it probably wouldn't be.

CosmosQueen · 07/07/2023 18:25

It’s not too bad, I also say that if you just drop by then you’ll have to take me as you find me. It may be a bit untidy but it won’t be dirty.
Luckily everyone I know is welcome so they presumably don’t mind how they find meM

It's ready to appall the visitors. I make sure my kids don't grow up seeing women spending vast amounts of hours polishing toilet bowls and shining the kitchen. It would give them a distorted view of what a woman's role is and that isn't good for self-esteem, relationships, jobs or society as a whole.

Why do people always have to take it to this weeks level. It’s just a random question if if someone walked into your house is it tidy. Geez.

It's OK. Downstairs loo is cleanish, there's milk in the fridge, the dusting was done last weekend. It could do with a tidy and a hoover, but I'd be happy to have anyone in.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 07/07/2023 18:40

Not too bad. Living room could do with a vacuum. Guestroom is out of commission though as holiday suitcases are on the bed about to be packed for departure tomorrow 😁

Maggiesgirl · 07/07/2023 18:43

We are just naturally tidy people, so the house never gets bad really.

UsingChangeofName · 07/07/2023 18:45

No, you asked if it were "visitor ready".
Lots of us are pointing out that we welcome visitors whatever the house looks like, as they are our friends or family, and don't give a monkeys what the house looks like.

Expo23 · 07/07/2023 18:45

The door will not be answered.

OutsidInInsideOut · 07/07/2023 18:46

9/10 just dishes in sink that dh is about to wash up.
Maybe could do with a hoover upstairs but its not terrible as done yesterday

Suckingalemon · 07/07/2023 18:47

Downstairs we could pass for a normal respectable family.

Upstairs the kids bedrooms are a tip, the spare room looks like one off those tv shows about hoarding, and the bathroom requires a series of knacks to basically function.

annonymousse · 07/07/2023 18:51

I wouldn't be embarrassed but would like time to run the Hoover round.

Glorieta · 07/07/2023 19:10

My bathroom is immaculate as I've just scrubbed it but every other room has low level clutter and the carpets haven't been hoovered for days

So visitors who wish a shower are fine but if you want to sit on a sofa you will have so shove some stuff onto the floor

Coronationstation · 07/07/2023 19:13

Let’s just say it’s lucky my doorbell doesn’t work ;)

whoruntheworldgirls · 07/07/2023 19:21

House always visitor ready. I might not be, probably wandering round in lounge wear without a bra

princesspeppax · 07/07/2023 19:28

9/10 , 15 mins from being visitor ready

AnotherCountryMummy · 07/07/2023 19:31

Mine is a shithole and my MIL arrives early Sunday morning for ONE MONTH.

I'm currently prone on the sofa. I don't want to spend tomorrow cleaning. I don't want to clean now.

Fuck my life.
