How visitor ready is your house right now?

Unexpected guests are about to walk into your house.

How tidy/visitor ready is your house?

OP posts:
BiddyPop · 07/07/2023 19:32

Five minutes to do downstairs bathroom and sweep floor, scoop 1 bundle off dining table.

10 minutes and I'd do upstairs bathroom as well and zhugh the sitting room cushions. And straighten duvet on spare bed (as dd and DDog were rolling around there earlier).

But even if someone just rang the bell, I'd be happy enough to see visitors (just might have to scramble to feed and water them - but that's what freezes and takeaways are for!).

finewelshcheese · 07/07/2023 19:36

It's not. Got back from holiday today so there's piles of laundry in various places and the dog's been chomping a bone and left bits all over the rug.

louderthan · 07/07/2023 19:52

Tidy-ish, washing up to be done but I've just cooked dinner and don't have a dishwasher so y'know. Cleaned the bathroom earlier so it's pretty much ok. Who wants to pop round for a glass of rosé in the garden??

AnotherCountryMummy · 07/07/2023 19:31

Mine is a shithole and my MIL arrives early Sunday morning for ONE MONTH.

I'm currently prone on the sofa. I don't want to spend tomorrow cleaning. I don't want to clean now.

Fuck my life.

Oh my. Thoughts and prayers 🙏🏻

badluckorbadvibes · 07/07/2023 19:54

I don't do visitors. I don't do tidy either Blush

TheLifeofMe · 07/07/2023 19:54

It is half ready for visitors - upstairs is like a tip but downstairs is always relatively tidy. Not show home standard but I would not be embarrassed if anyone turned up. Not that I would open the door 😂

lastminutewednesday · 07/07/2023 19:55

@Neverinamonthofsundays you are my person. My house is never cleaner and my out of house to do list never less full then when I have a deadline for something else such as a piece of coursework because I am a chronic avoidant procrastinator and it's the the thing that annoys me the most about myself.

Ibizafun · 07/07/2023 19:57

For once it is! Cleaner just done 7 hours and it's just me and dh, no dd to spoil it...

PollyThePixie · 07/07/2023 19:59

We’re always visitor ready. It’s just the way we live. A very well organized home that people seem to like coming to either for a meal or a holiday. Or anything in between.

Chronic avoidants anonymous we should start up! I batch cooked today and BAKED ( I do not bake) just to do something else. I have even walked the dogs twice poor beggars AND had conversations with each of my kids. They are teens so that was a challenge but better than the papers. Now I have wine so cant do any coursework now...

KohlaParasaurus · 07/07/2023 20:05

Come on in, let me shunt these bike parts along the sofa and then you'll be able to sit down. Tea or coffee? Kitchen's cleanish if you ignore the flowerpots soaking in the sink, come and see for yourself, mind you don't trip over the bike parts. You're in luck, the biscuit barrel is empty, you get to choose which of the new packets gets opened. The bathrooms are all gleaming and have soap and clean towels. Stay the night? Sure. Double room OK? Only, my son stayed in the single room a couple of weeks ago and I didn't change the bed afterwards because I still see it as his bedroom. If you think a surface is dusty or if you don't like the floor crunching underfoot, just say and I'll show you where the cleaning stuff is kept. Red wine, Prosecco or beer? I LOVE visitors.

Thursa · 07/07/2023 20:14

My house is always visitor ready. Always has been. I grew up in dirt and mess and it stresses me to be around it now.

The door will not be answered.

Typical Mumsnet response. So boring and predictable to even a hypothetical question.

For the first time in months, tonight it is. No visitors though!

bjjgirl · 07/07/2023 20:38

Absolutely fine- all cleaning done bar a hoover and mop tomorrow.

We clean as we go and robo vac is working away down stairs as I write.

However I have teena who tidy up after themselves and a dp who cleans

NeverThatSerious · 07/07/2023 20:44

Quite, actually. I’ve been on a cleaning spree (so much so, I have blisters on my knuckles, damn my weak thin skin!!) the past couple of days. It isn’t always like this, we live and work on a farm, have a toddler, have several dogs and are busy as fuck, so it can be a bloody pigsty.

NeverThatSerious · 07/07/2023 20:45

Also I baked a cake today, so they’d even have cake with their tea

Yeah that's me. That's where I'm at

Beezknees · 07/07/2023 22:10

It's always visitor ready. Not a boast, I just don't have young kids or pets so it's easy to keep clean. I have a teen DS and his bedroom is not visitor ready but they wouldn't go in there!

Gelatelli · 07/07/2023 22:11

Maybe a visitor with bad eyesight and low standards!

Davros · 07/07/2023 22:12

8/10

I guess it would depend on who the visitors are. If it was Wayne and Waynetta Slob, they would feel right at home in my house!

ChicagoBears · 07/07/2023 22:17

Pristine and always is as I can’t rest until the house is spotless. It means cleaning daily (alongside a cleaner twice a week).

it makes me happy
