Topless on holiday with tween DC?

Toobear · 04/07/2023 15:43

On holiday in France with DH, DD11 and DS10. About third of women on beach are topless.
DH very keen that I join them (I did happily last time we went on holiday). But I feel that it will embarrass the DC.
Am I being prudish given there’s plenty doing it and I absolutely would if DC weren’t there, or am I being respectful of their feelings?

There’s no chance any step mum would think about getting their boobs out, for fun, in front of their ten year old step son. Nope.

GCalltheway · 04/07/2023 16:12

There has seen a big me too movement in France as a result sunbathing seems to be much more covered these days, we holiday in France all of the time and I never see it anymore.

Your dh is a rank weirdo if he is asking you to
do this?! If this is real

Xrays · 04/07/2023 16:13

We recently went on holiday to Ibiza and loads of women were topless on the beach. For a joke I said to Ds aged 11 I might join them and he was utterly horrified 😆 so it’s a no from me.

This. It's weird.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 04/07/2023 16:19

Go away you perve, no one is going to tell you stories of getting naked in front of their kids.

StarlightLady · 04/07/2023 16:23

I'm in my 40s and go topless at the beach with friends and family. In my book this encourages people to be sensible about bodies. I had parents that were relaxed about bodies too though.

Children are having their holiday paid for, but they do not dictate every movement as well.

Why is your husband so invested in you getting your tits out in public. That's really creepy.

My kids would be mortified.

Yes that's is totally weird op

This.

Also, kids should be in school, not France

OP's post doesn't mention a step son just a son & daughter

MerryMarigold · 04/07/2023 16:38

I'm 50. If I went topless at the beach

  • My 17yo DS would not come to the beach
  • My 14yo DS would come to the beach and then go as far away from me as possible for the entire day
  • My 14yo DD would probably never forgive or forget it, and join one of her brothers
  • My DH would be utterly horrified and spend the entire time telling me to put them away (which would have the opposite effect, so we would get very annoying so then we'd have a big argument).

It wouldn't be much of a family holiday!

Perhaps most important:

  • My nipples would be wandering towards my waist and create tan lines on my belly. Who wants those?
theDudesmummy · 04/07/2023 16:39

I am a naturist and practice it, at appropriate places, together with my children (child and adult children). It's not weird if it is what you do and always have done.

Cosycover · 04/07/2023 16:39

Your DH is keen is he? Ffs that's gave me the actual boke.

rwalker · 04/07/2023 16:41

Everything else aside if you’ve started to tan then take your top off
white tits will stick out like a sore thumb

theDudesmummy · 04/07/2023 16:41

DH being "keen" is not at all OK though. That makes it seem sexual, which real naturism (FKK) is emphatically not and topless sunbathing should not be. For that reason alone, if I was the OP I would not do it.

DNAwrangler · 04/07/2023 16:42

Sorry, you’re right. Let me correct:

There’s no chance any mum would think about getting their boobs out, for fun, in front of their ten year old son. Nope.

Liamgallaghersparka · 04/07/2023 16:44

There's no way I'd get my knockers out in front of my DS's, they'd be mortified!

This is the work of a previously banned poster, so we're taking it down now.

theDudesmummy · 04/07/2023 16:46

I am fully naked in front of my 14 yo son (as is DH) when on an FKK beach. Is it for "fun"? Well, it's part of a lifestyle and culture I enjoy, "fun" once again sounds vaguely sexual, which it's not.

Just the mum stripping off though, while the dad doesn't and is "keen" on the mum doing it, that's not on.

StarlightLady · 04/07/2023 16:47

On my post up thread, I pressed "send" too soon before in error. I was brought up in France where it was quite normal to see people topless of all ages at the beach. As I mentioned previously, I'm in my 40s and still comfortable topless with friends and family.

To add, I think it is important to demonstrate to younger ones that there is nothing rude or obscene about the female breast, nor should there a need to cover them in a beach situation. What applies for men should also apply for women.

That said, away from the beach (on the promenade for example or in town), I think both genders should have their shirts on.

SoSoSoSo · 04/07/2023 16:50

Oh no. Malcolm will be along in a minute.

pizzaHeart · 04/07/2023 16:52

Why is he keen? It’s very strange. It should be up to you whatever you prefer.

Yeah, my friend grew up with naturist parents. She's had a lot of therapy. A lot.

toffeeappleglow · 04/07/2023 17:06

Ick. No, for all the reasons already mentioned. Your husband is creepy (assuming he's real).

littleripper · 04/07/2023 17:13

My friends parents are naturists and he was sexually assaulted repeatedly during his childhood under the guise of "games", "sports" and mutual bathing. He has had years of therapy. It is not all good clean healthy fun and games. Men wanting women or children naked is break down boundaries and is a big red flag.

StarlightLady · 04/07/2023 17:16

It's a man's world. Women only covered their breasts on the beach because men told them they had too. The world has moved on, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Breast acceptance is what we need in the 21st century.

In Copenhagen women can swim topless in municipal pools.

Many, many years ago, I spit up with a boyfriend who "objected" to me being topless on the beach.
