Camwy. - it's a river in Patagonia. Really suited him though (Welsh ..... extremely Welsh man in his 50's).

Cinderella (older lady, went by middle name)

I hope she didn't have any sisters, because, by implication...!

I knew a Happy too. Happiness was her full name.

You'd really want to massively over-emphasise the stress on the first syllable with that one!

SallyWD · 03/07/2023 19:34

I know of a woman called Dandelion and a girl called Tiger

Winterscomingagain · 03/07/2023 19:34

I taught a little boy called Zarach, a Hebrew name according to his mother. It suited him and I'd never heard of it before.

If she is African, her traditional name may be Ntokozo.

I have yet to meet an unhappy Ntokozo. Beautiful name.

The most unusual name I ever heard I'm not going to say because he must surely be the only one in existence. It was a letter and a number. So think like K42. I heard that he ended up in foster care and they changed his name.

Araya-Rose-Mae - a girl on my daughters class, I like all the names but together they were a mouthful. And her mum asked that it not be shortened.

Growlybear83 · 03/07/2023 19:37

There was a poor child at my daughters primary school called Silvercup.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 03/07/2023 19:38

Ulysses, Virgil, Calypso

Sue and Susan (twins)

Aphra.

I discovered the writer Aphra Behn due to her. Definitely recommend [both the poet and and colleague]!

I have a niece and a nephew called Ella and Sam. Not siblings.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/07/2023 19:44

Wilmet - name of a female character in a novel by Barbara Pym. Said (by the character) that it came from a Victorian novel by Charlotte M Yonge, her mother’s favourite author.

Echio · 03/07/2023 19:44

Not necessarily most unusual but my all-time favourite name of a person I knew...

Emanuela Ilomuanya

The way it falls with all the consonants and vowels - SO BEAUTIFUL!!

If Sherlock is genuine that takes the prize imo. Can’t imagine how much grief the kid would get at school

Just checked FindMyPast - there are loads of Sherlocks (including a few Sherlock Holmes). Also lots of Cinderellas.

We knew twins called Emily and Millie which is surely the same name?

Tessabelle74 · 03/07/2023 19:47

Kyron 🙄

Trainsplanesandfeet · 03/07/2023 19:47

But then we also know brothers called Henry and Harry which are theoretically the same name I guess too

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 03/07/2023 19:48

My family tree has a sibling set called Ocean and Neptune (he died during ww1). Ocean is still in use as a family name, Neptune has sadly fallen to the wayside. Dc1 is glad we didn't call him Neptune. Dc2 who wants to be a mermaid is mad we didn't call her Ocean.

My mum went to school with a Jetta which I always liked.

Trainsplanesandfeet · 03/07/2023 19:49

I knew a Manon which I know isn’t super unusual but I’ve never met another

Ive met a Blue and a Red (not siblings)
A Fox and a Hawk (also not siblings)

And I also love the virtue names and have worked with a Moreblessing and a Precious which are both so beautiful

isthismylifenow · 03/07/2023 19:49

SouthCountryGirl · 03/07/2023 19:27

Precious

Is she African?

If so, Gugulethu could be her traditional name. Also shortened to Gugu.

Monkeypopcorn · 03/07/2023 19:49

A boy in my son's class was called Mayhem. He was a surprisingly timid child.
