Richenda makes me think of The Chalet School books.
There was an Amba at my son’s primary school - her mum thought that’s how you spell Amber.

Or they first met in the capital of Lithuania and liked anagrams!

My nans name was Queenie. I've never met anyone else with that name.

My dad had a sister called Queenie who died when she was 2, I love the name.
if I’d had a daughter I would have included it in her name.

Plantagenet
Brock
Achilles (heard the name being called in a supermarket - it was a little girl)

Hebe, Ariadne, Merope, Blossom (love that).
Plantagenet is coooool, but I wouldn't have the guts to use it.

A girl named Miracle
A boy named Mustard

ModestMoon · 03/07/2023 22:43

My first boyfriend was called Fenrir. I thought it was phenomenally cool. He always hated it and now goes by his very boring middle name.

Apart from that, I've met siblings Lake (boy) and Ocean (girl).

SaturdayGiraffe · 03/07/2023 22:45

The only one-off was a baby boy called KC.

If I was going for a super unusual name now I think I’d like Petrichor.

I once served a customer called Richenda. I commented that her name was unusual and she said it was a combo of her parents Richard and Brenda! Anyway I thought it was nice and so unusual.

I'm sure there's a (female) CofE minister who used to be on Sunday telly a lot called Richenda (can't remember her surname).

So maybe she was pulling my leg when she said she was named after Richard and Brenda? It’s still a lovely name though.

I was desperate to call DS Jupiter but DH wouldn’t let me. I used to enjoy reading the Three Investigators books as a child and Jupiter Jones was my favourite character. So maybe that’s why Jupiter isn’t so uncommon, I assume a lot of people who are now 40-ish read those books.

If DS was a girl I wanted to call him Isabeau. DH said no to that too. Again it’s a very “child of the 80s” name because it was in a movie around that time, Michelle Pfeiffer played Isabeau.

Wylda - which I actually love

Xenia - pronounced Zen-ya

Money - male

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 03/07/2023 22:59

I met a Sian once.

Not so unusual I'm sure.

Except I'd only exchanged emails with her, and when I met her face to face and introduced myself, "are you Sian? I'm Ralph" she icily told me it was actually pronounced Cyan.

So that was awkward!

@isthismylifenow they were of African heritage, do you know of a name it might be a translation of?

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 03/07/2023 23:13
