BST Hyde Park show tips

Can anyone going over the next week or so please give any tips specifically about best (quietest) toilets, good viewpoints (ideally staying seated until the main act!) and anything else that might help others!

Not been to an outdoor concert in years and off to see Bruce Springsteen! But comfort is my main priority 🤣

Also it’s v walkable from Victoria I find. Can’t be bothered with the tube.

SoVeryTiredAndEmotional · 25/06/2023 13:22

I was there yesterday. I would suggest taking water if you can as the queues for the water station were horrendous. (They didn’t seem to be taking water off people on entry which was good)
I have been to BST 4 or 5 times and this year was the worst for toilet queues. We were on the left if you face the stage, so were nearest to the toilets behind the stage. Got there at 4pm and didn’t get to go for a wee until about 9pm as the queue was unreal so kept on abandoning it to watch the bands. It became a bottle neck at the entrance and was very dangerous. A lot of people at the Customer service booth desperately trying to get them to sort it out as it was an accident waiting to happen. Not had this problem in previous years. I’m hoping the other areas weren’t as bad.
For a festival with that number of people in that heat, it shouldn’t be easier to get a beer than water or a loo!
i hope you have a great time. I do love BST, it is such a chilled, fun and friendly festival.

Know the words to Mary’s Place, Wrecking Ball & The Rising. They take on a new life in the live show.

Love this recommendation!

Can I also ask what time the main act normally starts? I am taking my DC to see black pink but they are still young so want to plan ahead!

Dashie · 25/06/2023 14:09

I went to see Pink last night, fantastic!
she was on stage approximately 20:30-22:30.

For those who are worried about sitting on the ground, there are some wooden picnic benches towards the back. I imagine you could make this your base if you needed. A long way from the stage but a decent view still. You would probably have to keep one of your there all of the time though to avoid loosing the seat.

@namechangedyetagain I was there yesterday and loads of people on crutches.
I'm also pregnant and there were a few of us knocking about.

For tips, we had a big picnic in the park before going in. Headed in around 5pm as only wanted to see Gwen Stefani and pink.

Lots of people brought picnic blankets (annoyingly most left them behind as liter) and I guess if you want to make a day of it you could .

When leaving take your nearest exit and switch tubes if necessary.

Toilets were great. They were very hot and though busy I never felt like I was queuing for long. We used the ones by gate 19

Take a big water bottle. They have free refill stations but they are busier than the bar!

Thanks @TrudyProud we're going to see Take That, would like to see Will Young, Sugababes and The Script so was thinking of suggesting going in later to my friends. We do have primary tickets though! Might depend what the weather's doing, I'm not enjoying the heat. I'm also not obviously pregnant (12 weeks) so worried about getting knocked cos people won't care about being careful!

I'm only 12 weeks (DC2) but I've popped. If you feel comfortable I'd definitely recommend wearing the TFL baby on board badge. I had mine in the middle between boob and belly.
Felt safe and looked after throughout.

When I needed to move through the crowd to go to the toilet so many people parted the crowd for me to get past.

We're off to see Take That too! Do you know timings? Keen to see the same artists as you so don't want to get there too early.

Matildahoney · 25/06/2023 20:48

@TrudyProud if I wear something fitted you can tell!
Stupid question but where do you get a tfl badge?! Any train or tube station?

@r0ck I think about 5 ish, I've downloaded the bst Hyde park app which shows timings, but doesn't show Will Young on there, not heard anything about him pulling out though!

I'm piggybacking, I'm seeing Billy Joel there in a couple of weeks.
A great friend of mine Is seeing Bruce.

I really would stick to the A4.
Admittedly not Hyde Park, but I've been to a few other venues and they enforce it.
You can ram in a fair bit though.
Aswell as my ordinary crap, I got 5 cereal bars and two bottles of water into Murrayfield the other week.

eurochick · 25/06/2023 22:16

I went a few years ago at 32 weeks pg. I was a bit hesitant (mainly because of the need to wee frequently) but I figured I might not get the chance to go again for a while. It was great. Quite a few people waved me ahead of them for the loos (which were decent by festival or gig standards) and I got lots of positive comments.

My top tip would be to figure out your exit in relation to some fixed markers before darkness falls. That way you can head towards a flag or sign on the side of the park you want when it's dark and thousands of people are on the move.

marmitegirl01 · 25/06/2023 22:37

Take an umbrella for shade if hot as no shade !

MurielThrockmorton · 26/06/2023 06:44

I'm watching because I'm seeing Billy Joel too, @TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening - and I saw Harry Styles a week or so ago, do we have the same eclectic taste in music? Grin
