We can discuss things that are horrifying and ghoulish, thanks for your opinion.
Migrant boats are sad too

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off. The...

Tragic

Honestly arguing the toss doesn't help. Just ignore what irritates you. Life is calmer that way.

Absolutely.

Only posts that (say) incite violence, which are personally abusive/ insulting, or which are libellous or "outing" (especially if they may place someone in danger) should be reported or deleted.

Anything else - just scroll by. We all have different opinions. By all means say you find it offensive, and why, but having said your piece, move on.

Shutting people up because you don't like to hear what they say is trying to curtail free speech. There's too much of that in general nowadays.

Offence isn't given - it is taken. I usually choose not to take it. As @pickledandpuzzled says - life is calmer that way.

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/06/2023 18:31

You must have a superb view from up there on your high horse @hindere

Your virtue signalling is considerably more offensive - and very patronising to the bereaved families - than any condolences offered on here.

I'd have thought posting hun-style heart emojis and sentiments before official announcements was more like virtue signalling, to be perfectly honest.

I think we'll leave it for Mumsnet to deal with the reports.

@Mochudubh BBC just reporting nature of debris now. It says something that I can read news on Mumsnet half an hour before the BBC.

The BBC.tey to verify updates and news.before they publish. They won't always be the fastest, but they do aim to verify sources and be accurate.

Locutus2000 · 22/06/2023 18:40

Can somebody link me to a single post which is not factual but respectful?

They have been reporting very little of any real value about this over and over on a loop for days

People tried to find it.

Always good to wait for official confirmation rather than rely on social media.

True.

My point was more that posters had seen it on Sky news, had time to post here and for me to read it before the live BBC programme reported it. Maybe down to their new "Verify" feature which they never needed before as they were considered trustworthy.

Yes we know. you Reported It

We got that

Although the link below mentioned likely catastrophic failure so I doubt it’s not out there

pickledandpuzzled · 22/06/2023 18:45

It's all very sad.

Perhaps heightened emotions are causing us to get overly offended.

We can't influence anything here, just educate each other.

There have been any number of irritating virtue signalling posts. They started on Thread 1 and have continued.

Simplestead · 22/06/2023 18:48

Can we draw a line under the RIP/virtue signalling/I'm reporting you nonsense.

Will the press conference be live on sky or BBC?

EnthENd · 22/06/2023 18:49

Landing frame and a rear cover from the submersible

Only just checked up. That's interesting.

Looking at the design, if the pressure hull imploded then you'd expect those components attached to it to break free. But an alternative scenario is that those parts broke off for some other reason, which would leave the pressure hull very buoyant and it would float to the surface by itself unless trapped.

I say the search is only truly over once the pressure hull is found, whether intact or destroyed. Although the precise appearance of the debris found will probably allow investigators to make a fairly reliable conclusion from it.

Exactly , the media obsession with stuff like this is very odd .

Do we need reports saying the same thing over and over ?

WibblyWobblyLane · 22/06/2023 18:51

For someone who has very little understanding of physics, what are the chances of bodies being recovered? Would they have imploded too if the sub did?

tortoishelll · 22/06/2023 18:51

I have missed so much of this thread. What is the latest news? X

I imagine it will be broadcast on both.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 22/06/2023 18:51

Do you think David Mearns has been removed from the Explorers club, for being a bit of a twat and ungentlemanly?

He was informed as a friend and then decided to break it to the world. Bad form.

MidnightMeltdown · 22/06/2023 18:51

At this stage, this is the best outcome. They would have been killed instantly rather than suffering for 5 days.

Just a shame that the CEO was there too, and didn't have time to contemplate the consequences of his idiocy that cost these people their lives. It's the people left behind who will suffer.
