Yes we know they're billionaires
We can discuss things that are horrifying and ghoulish, thanks for your opinion.
Migrant boats are sad too

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off. The...

I've reported the RIP comments so we'll see if MN think it's appropriate or not. I certainly don't.

There have been four threads so far. I think it's safe.

SOBplus · 22/06/2023 18:09

If it came apart it imploded most likely. It could be intact but filled with water, but the recent reports seem to line up with implosion.

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2023 18:10

chilledtuesdays · 22/06/2023 18:08

the hull can't sustain on its
own can it? if the other
parts have come
away, it's an implosion isn't it?

We don't know. David Mearns the expert doesn't know. And it seems his sources don't know (or haven't shared if they do) either.

Simplestead · 22/06/2023 18:10

RIP to those who have lost their lives on the Titan .,🖤

hindere · 22/06/2023 18:10

Please don't start the RIPs until it is confirmed. Have a bit of a respect.

I agree. The number of people who have done this since this morning. Why the need to type 'RIP' before it's been officially announced.

SunnyEgg · 22/06/2023 18:10

I’m surprised at reaction but I guess we’re all at different stages.

Earlier claims I felt were upsetting but if people still feel like that that’s also valid for them

darkmodeon · 22/06/2023 18:10

If they have located it then I applaud all their efforts - it is much better the family know where their loved ones are than not.

What are you on about? I'm talking about declaring these people dead not the threads. It's hugely disrespectful. There is a mother waiting to know what's happened to her 19 year old here.

Oh for heaven's sake!

If you don't approve of them, just scroll on.

There hasn't been much chance of anyone surviving this at all, even if they had been found on the surface in an undamaged sub, just because of the length of time to would take to open the craft and release them . Withthis scenario: damaged sub, on the sea floor, several hours to bring it to the surface . . .

There is a difference between being optimistic and deluded.

Do you seriously think that they are still alive without oxygen and with parts of the sub missing? At this point wishing them peace IS the respectful thing to di.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 22/06/2023 18:12

I hope the families get a small amount of comfort from the fact the guys wouldn't have have known anything about it.
The families have suffered a thousand times more :(

DontGoBreakingMyHeart · 22/06/2023 18:12

I've reported the RIP comments so we'll see if MN think it's appropriate or not. I certainly don't. what do you expect them to say? “No. It’s not appropriate to say RIP about dead people…”?

SunnyEgg · 22/06/2023 18:12

Can’t people stop sniping away?

It’s sad. I feel sad for them

I doubt she's scrolling through Mumsnet

What am I on about? One word, traffic.

milkyaqua · 22/06/2023 18:13

Meanwhile the coastguard has only stated there is a debris field and experts are evaluating the information.

No but perhaps people who know her might be. Mums of her son's friends, neighbours, who knows.

Before it's been officially announced.

I've reported too.

YoSof · 22/06/2023 18:14

I’m very sad to hear this news, even though I think we all knew days ago that there was very little hope.

I agree

All the ‘I’ve reported it’ just report it already. No need to do the thread police

Twattle · 22/06/2023 18:14

Leave the Titanic alone now. I just saw a video of plaques that have been left by other people who have went down on these vanity trips.

Visiting an ocean grave should not be a leisurely choice. I still cannot believe the lack of threads about the 500 people. Yet so much about these "explorers".

They are not doing research, what on earth could they be researching.

Tinktravels · 22/06/2023 18:15

How awful for everyone involved, my thoughts are with the families and friends affected

Opt1234 · 22/06/2023 18:15

You all are reporting and sniping, it says on sky news I'm watching now that the landing frame and rear cover of sub has been found

Degradation of the ship by metal eating bacteria, the formation of deep water reefs. Those are two of the things they mentioned.

If so they could be some of the people who are saying rest in peace for all you know.
