How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off. The...

What are you on about? I'm talking about declaring these people dead not the threads. It's hugely disrespectful. There is a mother waiting to know what's happened to her 19 year old here.

I doubt she's scrolling through Mumsnet

What's your RIP and black emoji heart for then? Very distasteful.

Boomshock · 22/06/2023 18:16

If so they could be some of the people who are saying rest in peace for all you know.

Or maybe they're the people telling you to have some respect and wait for official confirmation.

DontGoBreakingMyHeart · 22/06/2023 18:17

There is a mother waiting to know what's happened to her 19 year old here. the families will have been briefed along the way, and been counselled to expect the worst. They will have been told a long time ago that it’s highly likely that their family members are dead.

Of course they will have had hope, but this being announced on the news is just confirmation f what they already knew.

If you really want to know, research the Byford Dolphin disaster. It's pretty grim reading though.

Hells teeth!

The only comfort is that death would have been instantaneous.

Indeed, they would have known nothing about it.

KnickerlessParsons · 22/06/2023 18:20

Do you really think a cowboy set up like Oceangate would be providing counselling to the about to be bereaved?

Distasteful? Really?

Bizarre

I don't think oceangate are running this rescue/recovery operation.

OvaHere · 22/06/2023 18:23

I'm glad they've found something that can at least bring closure to families and friends. Based on what I read on Sky it seems like it might have been over at the point contact was lost. Which would be the most merciful outcome to be honest.

hindere · 22/06/2023 18:24

"RIP to those who have lost their lives on the Titan .,🖤"

Yes. @Simplestead

Look, that's your post above. Distasteful and mawkish. Can't you wait for the official announcement?

Locutus2000 · 22/06/2023 18:25

Grauniad.

America does seem to be home of the conspiracy theories.

Let's be honest. It is.Although the UK is now not far behind. We used to be a lot more sensible but social media is changing all that.

GottaGirlcrush · 22/06/2023 18:25

@hindere and your behaviour here is worse!

How can you not see that? Grow up

Leftbutcameback · 22/06/2023 18:25

Most of the people (crew) were adventurers, who had undertaken dangerous activities in the past. There are massive risks in the things they did and they knew that. I remember the balloon pilot who died on an expedition. But one is / was a 19 year old, who was at uni, and I feel was unlikely to be able to weigh up the risks properly. That makes me very sad.

ClickingTock123 · 22/06/2023 18:26

I think it's safe to assume after this complete and utter nightmare no more tourist exhibitions will be happening ever again. At one point it would have been acceptable for experts to dive down there for scientific research but even that's probably a no go now, I mean what else is there to know? They say in 30/40 years there'll be nothing left of it anyway.

I admit I am fascinated by Titanic and would have LOVED to see the wreckage from a respectful distance if I'd been wealthy and had guaranteed safety.

But let's just leave it alone now.

Snowy2022 · 22/06/2023 18:27

Sorry if already posted.

Friends of crew on titan told Sky news the landing gear and something else of the sub found.

Do you think they’re running the rescue operation then?

BBC have now confirmed that the debris found is the landing gear and the cover. This notion that people can’t say RIP when there is 100% certainty that these people are dead just because nobody has officially said “they’re dead” is ridiculous.

GwinCoch · 22/06/2023 18:27

Kinsters · 22/06/2023 17:45

I reckon the US military will be putting an order in.

Over the past few days their media people will have been working around the clock in order to mobilise that quickly. When I’ve worked on a crisis comms situation we just all go into platinum command mode and rehearse a variety of scenarios. The delay will be due to the family briefings first and foremost and then top brass will be determining what can/can’t be said based on what has been found and what can realistically and reliably be determined. So a lot of the work behind the scenes will already have been done and then it would have been a case of wait and see…

placemats · 22/06/2023 18:28

I have no idea why anyone would want to climb Everest, and pass dead bodies on the way, and similarly have no clue why anyone would want to visit a wreck that sunk in dangerous waters like the Titanic.

But people do do it. They even take their children along, specifically I'm remembering the picture of a 13 year old on top of Everest.

All this so called adventure is extreme and with danger riven right through it. The risks are very high. Why do this to loved ones?

Snowy2022 · 22/06/2023 18:28

landing frame and rear cover found.

I fail to see that, and I think you've missed the point.
It's disrespectful to have posted 'RIP' before any deaths have been officially announced. We've had to ask people to stop that since this morning.

A few of us have reported now in any case.

GottaGirlcrush · 22/06/2023 18:30

'We'...who is 'we'?

You replicated the very post you were complaining about.

pickledandpuzzled · 22/06/2023 18:30

Honestly arguing the toss doesn't help. Just ignore what irritates you. Life is calmer that way.

I disagree.

There will be different safety measures, different ways of doing things. Sometimes bad things happen, and what we do is learn from them so they don’t happen again.

Look at how many people have died on Everest for instance, and still the expeditioners come.

This was one sub. Five people. There’s no way that is going to change the future.

Locutus2000 · 22/06/2023 18:30

They have found the rear tail with the logo on, and the landing frame. Former doesn't matter, the frame is structural.
