Yes we know they're billionaires
We can discuss things that are horrifying and ghoulish, thanks for your opinion.
Migrant boats are sad too

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off. The...

seriously get sky news on

I can't access at the moment. What are they saying?

JustCheckingUp · 22/06/2023 18:03

The debris is the frame and rear cover

SunnyEgg · 22/06/2023 18:03

So very sad. Rest in peace

milkyaqua · 22/06/2023 18:01

Maybe the debris field is the balast, after they lost power and jetisoned the weights and they are still bobbing about helplessly in some below surface currents...

Oh man, this is sad. I really hoped for a miraculous rescue.

One of their ballast options was to get all crew to move to one side, tipping off a load of scaffolding poles. Mental.

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2023 18:03

David Mearns the expert saying parts of it have been found (such as the landing frame) but not the hull.

Please don't start the RIPs until it is confirmed. Have a bit of a respect.

There is a massive amount of energy involved. It took 37 milliseconds for the USS Thresher to implode, captured by SOSUS.

Basically it makes a big bang.

Thanks!

And thank you @SOBplus - I can well imagine that a water jet forced in due to that sort of pressure could cut you in half if you were unfortunate enough to be in line with it.

DontGoBreakingMyHeart · 22/06/2023 18:05

It’s amazing how people pick something up and run with it.

Nowhere has it been officially confirmed that there was banging at regular intervals. what was confirmed was that there was noise detected and that had been sen to the laboratory for analysis. It’s only the tabloids who made up the story that the banging was at regular intervals, no doubt to increase the excitement factor, and people picked up on it. Someone even made a fake recording of it and posted it on tiktok.

It’s highly likely that the noise was an alternative source, and tbh when this is all over, that noise may lead to some investigation, as ocean noise is a constant area of study.

I'd prefer that to the alternative of drowning tbh.

Even in that scenario, they still couldn't have opened the hatch.

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2023 18:05

So the parts are the landing frame and the rear cover of the missing sub. This info is coming from people who are part of the rescue mission.

If you really want to know, research the Byford Dolphin disaster. It's pretty grim reading though.

Worriedmum107 · 22/06/2023 16:59

I read that if it had imploded the noise would have been huge and heard from mikes away by various sonar devices. If there is debris, does that not mean it imploded? Why wasn't it heard? And what were the banging noises every 30 minutes?

I always thought the banging noise could have been from the Titanic itself - what led them to think it was the sub? So sad they haven’t survived, but at least it sounds like an instant death (rather than spending days trapped in that claustrophobic can).

Well even David Mearns just said on Sky not to completely give up just yet. It looks terrible but....

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2023 18:02

Mark Austin just said "we understand the debris field contains part of the missing vessel"

Well I hope Sky sure as hell had made sure the Next of Kin had been informed before broadcasting that......

I've reported the RIP comments so we'll see if MN think it's appropriate or not. I certainly don't.

QuizzlyBears · 22/06/2023 18:07

Sky News is reporting that the debris is parts of the sub - landing frame and rear cover. Just horrendous, I’ve not been able to stop thinking about this the last few days. Those poor people.

Heytheredeliah · 22/06/2023 18:07

Debris is 'landing frame and rear cover from sub', expert says

This is from the sky news

Fine by me. Delete away

chilledtuesdays · 22/06/2023 18:08

the hull can't sustain on its
own can it? if the other
parts have come
away, it's an implosion isn't it?
