The fact we are less than 15 hours until their oxygen is due to run out is truly terrifying.

ClickingTock123 · 21/06/2023 21:28

If they are alive - and I still hold hope they are - I can only imagine the conditions they are in. Aside from being cramped and traumatised they have been inhaling each other's sweat, breath and waste (that toilet won't be enough to carry four days worth of shit and piss) since Sunday. They must be feeling sick as dogs 😷

In regards to dehydration, couldn't they have urinated in their empty water bottles and drank each others to keep them going a bit longer?

Really? No

It is possible to care about more than one thing at the same time. Empathy isn’t finite!! I very much care about the Greek Migrant Boat disaster, it was truly awful and tragic and the Greek coastguard do indeed have a lot of questions to answer. More needs to be done to help those fleeing war zones and unsafe countries so they don’t fall into the hands of merciless people traffickers.
I’m also able to think that the news about the submersible is awful too.

Why would they drink each others?!

runwithme · 21/06/2023 21:31

How long was the original trip supposed to take? I am guessing a matter of hours?

Unable to get the site to open on any browser now. Confused

Can't imagine it's because they're inundated with marauding hordes eager to book tickets for the next exhibition.

I was just able to open the site and I'm horrified. It says:

2023 Expedition
Currently underway
Inquire for available dates

And there's a little form to fill in (or number to call) for your inquiry that includes the question: where did you hear about us?

A passenger said at the end of their sales video "as there's more publicity, everyone will be fighting for a spot on this ship."

I can't believe this site hasn't been taken down or turned black or something.

SheilaFentiman · 21/06/2023 21:33

2 hours down, 3-4 hours to explore, 2 hours back

So 7-8h

tigger2022 · 21/06/2023 21:33

GB News (so it could be bollocks) reporting that the banging was “SOS”

They are probably a little busy right now.

I don’t think it’s conclusive that the noise was from the submersible

It may not even be man-made… there are a lot of weird noises under the sea, and they can be transmitted a long way.

Unless it was literally tapping out SOS in morse code, it was probably just another boat’s engine or an oil platform or something.

I would file that under bollocks.

Also, it seems naval protocol is to bang hard for 3 minutes every half an hour, rather than SOS

When I look at the vids of the owner showing off the death trap, I feel real shock at his arrogance.

There were some children trapped in a cave a few years back (Thailand??) and their rescuers said they could “ Smell them” as they approached.

The smell of human waste and fear.

It must be unendurable for those trapped .

The sheer conceit of the owner putting other lives at risk beggars belief.

TheTERFnextDoor · 21/06/2023 21:38

I imagine you'd get used to the smell though?

themessygarden · 21/06/2023 21:38

I tried to log on to their webpage and it seemed to be down, there are some incredible videos on their FB page, but I still don't get the gratification of going on an extreme expedition to view it through a porthole. I hope to god they are somehow miraculously rescued.

As an aside and very, very superficial under the circumstances, but isn't Stockton Rush, an absolutely incredible name.

The more I read this story the more absurd it gets. The step son of the billionaire guy is tweeting stuff like this:

They phrased it “a source close to GB News” and not “a source close to the rescue” which made it sound like it was the bloke who makes the tea

Survival trainers teach very definitely not doing that....it actually increases your rate of dehydration.

A chance it fails or a chance it doesn't? If you have 2 winches capable at that depth, you improve your chance of success.

Makes me wonder if the reason the US refused the help is because they think the 5 are already dead? Why else would you refuse? Surely this isn't about egos and whose equipment is better when there are lives are stake? Unless those lives aren't at stake anymore.

Apologies, I'm don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, I just don't understand why you would refuse help when there are only a few pieces of equipment in the world that might be able to rescue the sub and one of those comes with people who have recent specialist knowledge of the area.

It could be a case of protecting top secret equipment. Not a matter of 'ours is better than yours' but a case of 'we don't want to reveal our technology that we have spent billions on developing in order to hopefully have the upper hand in the case of war on what is probably a fruitless task.'
