I cannot stop thinking about these poor men.

I think 12.08 comes from the daily mail's chinese whispers game.

There are now two ROVs deployed in the area, this is unusual

Missing Titan Sub! Thread 3
Heytheredeliah · 22/06/2023 12:47

What I am really confused about is why it has taken so long for help to come to them. I haven’t read the whole thread so this may have already been answered. I am hoping and praying for a miracle here.

Asthebellcurves · 22/06/2023 12:49

British attempts to get Magellan there were blocked by US authorities who went so far as to refuse to sign authorisations to enter airspace.

It's worth reading back. The "why did it take so long to get there" point has been addressed a few times.

Why would the Americans do that?

I read this morning that the French chap Paul-Henri has seen the Titanic 37 times! Obviously not all with OceanGate. Sadly, this has probably led to him feeling 'invincible'.

OG need suing into next week. Yes they signed waivers, but you can't contract yourself out of negligence.

I read that he had been really unhappy to go because of safety

We don’t know. Possibly there wasn’t a support ship available for Magellan. Possibly they had to make sure it was compatible with other search technology. Possibly expensive to hire and they had to find funding.

Because it takes time to get from a to b. You can't shove a sub into your hand luggage and jump on the nearest flight

Very few suitable rescue craft.

Scattered all over the world.

Not easily transportable.

Huge area (roughly the size of Wales) to be searched.

Sub could be anywhere - below or on the water, and it is a dull grey colour, so not easily visible. If below the water it could have drifted a long way due to currents - or it may be under a piece of the Titanic herself, unable to get free, or to be detected.

I think personally it will be like searching for a grain of brown rice in a football stadium filled with white rice. It's an almost impossible task, made worse by the company not reporting the loss until about 12 hours had passed (because their communications were so rubbish, that they just ignored it when they lost contact - it was SNAFU for them)

HerVagestyTheQueef · 22/06/2023 12:54

Let's not pretend this isn't a 'rich boys adventure tale' gone wrong.

What this thread, and other even less palatable things I've seen in the internet have shown me is that these men seemingly have LESS sympathy and concern because of their wealth and status than would 5 ordinary blokes, not the opposite.

Why did he go? Was it $$$$$ 💰?

It also took 12 hours before the mother ship raised the alarm.

I think we need a new thread? This one is almost full.

we do. What title though?

Titan sub 5 final day- Thread 4 ?!

He paid to go on though so doesn't make sense it would be money driven.

Also about the 19 year old seems unfair to judge the father when no one knows what discussions were had etc. His son might have been begging to go and he finally relented after much time, or perhaps the opposite and he dragged him along.

British attempts to get Magellan there were blocked by US authorities who went so far as to refuse to sign authorisations to enter airspace.

The terminology about this bit of the story is odd...for example there's no US airspace between the UK and St John's so we are certainly not getting the full details.

Still I guess that story pitched at that level appeals to those in the press who like to bash the US given the opportunity.

winelove · 22/06/2023 12:56

Please do not call it final.

Dinobore · 22/06/2023 12:57

I've also just watched the BBC documentary that was made a while ago, gives a bit of an insight into the company and why people choose to go down there.

Not final, thread 4 is ok

Efacsen · 22/06/2023 12:59

@Snowy2022 and no exclamation mark please

Snowy2022 · 22/06/2023 13:00

Peeps, I was just musing.

The BBC has been on the count down since yesterday and I have hated their adjusted tone of voices and slow speaks, since.

No, I will not start the thread. I might start one on the migrant boats though which will receive a handful of posts, one would imagine.

StayLiquid · 22/06/2023 13:00

Apologies if this is a silly question but considering there is no way for the carbon dioxide to be released from the sub, and then the continuous oxygen coming through, would the pressure of the gases cause the structural integrity of the sub to fail? Like if you keep putting air into a sealed plastic bottle, it will eventually explode?

Asthebellcurves · 22/06/2023 13:01

@notimagain No, it’s simply that the plane has to land somewhere after deploying the system. That involves going into US airspace.

hindere · 22/06/2023 13:01
