You mean how much is it costing to save human lives I assume?

Kinsters · 21/06/2023 17:57

StartingOverAt52 · 21/06/2023 17:51

So how many millions is it costing to rescue/recover some billionaires?

Did you say the same about the Thai boys stuck in that cave? Or the Chilean miners in the mine? Obviously subbing the word billionaire out for "children" or "miners"...

Trixiefirecracker · 21/06/2023 17:58

TheLassoWay · 21/06/2023 17:51

Jesus Christ what is with all the discussion of bones. No one is going to go searching the bottom of the ocean and recover bones from the victims of the Titanic. The discussion of human bones, dinosaur bones and fossils is completely irrelevant.

Can people try and keep the discussion to more relevant matters?!

That’s not true. There has been loads of speculation and interest in whether there are still human remains inside the ship and archaeologists and scientists are always discussing potentially looking for them and what it would tell us.

Wtf is wrong with some people?! These are human beings, quite possibly experiencing one of the worst things we could imagine. Who fucking cares if they were billionaires or didn’t have a penny to their name!!!

Who cares? 🤷‍♀️

FeedHedgehogsCatBiscuits · 21/06/2023 18:03

This story is absolutely horrific.
Everyone involved seems to have been incredibly cavalier, what were they thinking.
A quick end would be so much better than this awful drawn out hope and now they have picked up SOS messages on the sonar.
A certain type of man seems to love this kind of crazy wild west exploration in space, land or sea. I don't understand it. Just praying for a happy ending.

FeedHedgehogsCatBiscuits · 21/06/2023 18:04

Also I don't care how much money is spent on the rescue. Spent what it takes!

BeverleyMacker · 21/06/2023 18:05

Whether they're poor or billionaires, they'll be feeling pretty shit scared right now. Have some compassion 😡

I don't think their financial status should be an issue in any decision to search for them.

Especially when one of the passengers is barely an adult.

Even though I am not in favour of these types of expeditions for the wealthy that do not have any scientific merit (ones that do I feel differently about) I do think we need to be mindful that the evidence is mounting that the company involved may well have been less than transparent about the capabilities of the sub.

Had the participants known facts such as the window being rated at less than a third of the depth of the wreck or that they company changed the sub depth rating from 3k to 4k, or how many times they had previously lost contact, it may well have impacted their decision to go.

rinseandrepeat1 · 21/06/2023 18:08

@BeverleyMacker dinosaur bones thousands of years old? Dinosaurs went extinct 65 MILLION years ago. As others have told you, it needs very specific conditions and a lot of time for something to fossilise.

I've been watching the BBC live coverage for most of the day today. The more I think about the claustrophobia in that sub the more I feel sick. Hoping for a miracle.

The CEO of the company was with them. I expect they assumed he wouldn't be there if he thought it was unsafe.

Willmafrockfit · 21/06/2023 18:10

about 18 hours of oxygen left as of now

Yes. If by some miracle they are found (and I really, really hope that's the case) I wonder whether any criminal charges would be brought against the CEO.

MySugarBabyLove · 21/06/2023 18:11

A quick end would be so much better than this awful drawn out hope and now they have picked up SOS messages on the sonar. I’ve just watched a report from the coastguard saying that they are unable to confirm what the tapping noises may be, and whether there was a pattern to them.

It seems to be the media who are suggesting that this was an SOS or the like.

I think I read somewhere that they did know the dangers involved and had to sign a contract that mentioned the possibility of death several times.

I expect they are all dead already and that it was quick.

notimagain · 21/06/2023 18:13

That's seems to be a rumour, it's never been confirmed by the authorities

MySugarBabyLove · 21/06/2023 18:14

As for how much is this costing, it’s a slippery slope to suggest who is worthy of help and who isn’t. Billionaires today, anyone earning above the national wage tomorrow, maybe anyone not on benefits - be careful what you wish for.

MantaKay · 21/06/2023 18:14

They must be so scared. It is so deep.

Willmafrockfit · 21/06/2023 18:15

Capt Frederick says “we don’t know” what the noises that have been heard in the area of the site are, but that there is always hope in a search and rescue case.
The good news, what I can tell you, is that we’re searching in the area where the noises were detected, and we’ll continue to do so.He says data from the Canadian P-3 aircraft has been shared with US Navy experts for further analysis “which will be considered in future search plans”.

BreadInCaptivity · 21/06/2023 18:16

I agree and think that's part of the marketing.

The problem is that whilst he might have the full facts, so should the passengers.

Honestly, from what I've read I wouldn't have gone in that sub to the bottom of the local swimming pool, never mind the Atlantic.

As for all the waivers, the fact is most people assume the worst won't happen to them - yet if they'd had full disclosure I find it hard to fathom why anyone would do this.

While were chatting about bones and toilets I'd just like to toss this in to the mix and say that @DysonSpheres post makes me think what a lovely mum she must be, lucky son to have her.

have a son just two years older and regardless of what the law says, he is still like a child and has both the misplaced confidence and the insecurities that come with youth and is sometimes still in need of guidance and comfort from me.

I imagine the father must be feeling guilty a bringing him along. I cannot imagine a parent not feeling that way.
