Johnson is far more than a "pound land" Trump, he is far worse and has done a lot more damage to the UK than Trump has to the USA.

Luckily, he doesn't have the support base that Trump has, people here, well most of them, have seen through him, how the Beeb still find folk who want him back is a minor miracle really

Rhondaa · 18/06/2023 10:24

'So without officials present he could brief a known Russian agent on the UKs investigation into the murder on UK soil of a UK citizen by a Russian spy team.'

🙄

In your opinion and the opinion of a committee chaired by a vocal critic of Johnson, with a member who allegedly attended a drinks party when it was not allowed and the opinion of Sue Gray who is trying to insert herself into the Labour Party.

Credibility is all a bit shaky.

Let’s see what the opinion of the Commons is tomorrow, shall we? It will be interesting to see how many Tory MPs turn up to defend him. Hell, he’s not even defending himself any more, he’s requested that his mates vote to support the committee findings.

It will be interesting to see if Mad Nad disobeys. If no Tories object then no vote needs to be recorded and we will never know the depth and breadth of Boris' support.

It's not outside the bounds of possibility she could be the only objection.

🙄

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has defended meeting a Russian oligarch with a KGB past, saying “as far as I am aware” no government business was discussed at the 2018 get-together

Very much like his statements to 'commons on parties at no10.

Yeah, I probably would have stopped defending him at this point too.

No silly names please. I'm sure you'll be told off any minute by critics of 'Sir Beer'..

Didn't the first draft of Pride and Prejudice begin :

"It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that when an honourable member is found to be a lying cunt once, it is unwise to attach any great import to their subsequent proclamations"

Let's put it this way:

You are Rish!

Which story would you rather the country was talking about ?

And it's no fucking "rumour" that Boris Johnson deliberately slipped his police protection to meet a known Russian agent. That is a fact. So without officials present he could brief a known Russian agent on the UKs investigation into the murder on UK soil of a UK citizen by a Russian spy team.

And without officials present he can't say he didn't.

Well he can.

But he's a liar.

It's an interesting point. I agree it isn't a rumour that the meeting happened btw, it did. The rumour I refer to is that it's connected to the notebooks being withheld now.

On Rishi specifically, depends how self interested he is. Because the Lebedev meeting happened when he was a minnow. Whereas at minimum he knew about various illegal lockdown gatherings, did nothing about the lies and participated in months of gaslighting. He might have more plausible deniability on the national security issues, depending on how much he's been told about after the fact.

But the Lebedev meeting is potentially worse for the party as a whole.

I like "Sir beer". Quite aside from it sounds like the sort of stupid Johnsonian nickname public school twats think is funny, it's also solid, reassuring and refreshingly bland.

In fact Sir Beer Karma may just sum the whole future up, if we're playing Archbishop of Banterbury. Which we clearly are.

There is also a twitter rumour that Charlotte Owen was the mystery person accompanying Johnson..

The thing is that it wouldn't even surprise anyone anymore if that was true.

The British foreign secretary briefing a Russian spy on the progress of an investigation into the murder on UK soil of a UK citizen by Russian agents ?

The only blessing may be the fact Boris didn't have security clearance - at least our intelligence agencies weren't that dim.

No, and if anything it's quite a neat explanation for the peerage.

Credibility shaky? That’s a joke, right?

It’s bonkers that the prorogation and Russian relationships have faded so much into the background when they are arguably clear indicators of treachery. Certainly worthy of further discussion and debate about what kind of character was able to infiltrate government so completely.

If anyone should be investigating Boris and chums it’s MI6, never mind the MET.

Rhondaa · 18/06/2023 11:43

'claims that name calling is vulgar and below her then dances around spitting out as many derogatory names as she can think up.'

You misunderstand, ive never said name calling is vulgar and below me.. Ive said it should be equal rulez. So if 'Sir Beer' is childish and I get told off then so should you all pull up 'Mad Nads' too. But you don't. It's all a bit inconsistent.

cakeorwine · 18/06/2023 11:49

No name calling here - despite the Express constant use of Remoaner.

It's clear that name calling just alienates people and leads to more division and tribalism.

But no comment on how the Downing Street events made Janie feel. Just thinking that 2 different events were being compared.

What is being compared is the attitude towards the rules that Johnson asked us to follow.

Many people followed the rules.
It seems that Downing Street didn't - and the leader just didn't realise that all these events were not following the rules.

But no comment on how Janie feels about that. Interesting

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2023 12:01

It is telling that Janiie is about the only one still defending Johnson.

Cornettoninja · 18/06/2023 12:01

@Janiie to date you’ve never conversed in a way that makes me think I’ve misunderstood you. I’m happy I’ve got your measure thanks.

SerendipityJane · 18/06/2023 12:03

Well we wouldn't know if they were or not. Same for MI5. We also don't know what Rish! is cleared to know either. With his flaky connections to the UK and potential for foreign influence, it may be he's also regarded as low down on the "need to know" list.

And it's axiomatic that (apart from some stalwarts on this thread) you can never know what you don't know.

Name calling is entirely appropriate - nay required - in any discussion about a character whose florid prose includes "piccaninnies" "watermelon smiles" and "tank-topped bum boys".

As a dedicated Boris backer, I am a bit disappointed in Janiies lack of engagement here. They clearly need to up their game,

Well you clearly have, you've said I said name calling is 'vulgar and beneath me' when I've said no such thing. I have merely said you cannot object to Sir Korma and not object to Cruella (on other threads) Bozo, Mad Nads. It's rather one sided.

'It is telling that Janiie is about the only one still defending Johnson.'

Well it is Father's day most will be out or getting ready to (we will once everyone is here) but I do not doubt many will agree.
