Why were so many politicians and advisors catching Covid if they were working safely? Keir Starmer and Chris Whitty for two?
I wonder how people will view this period in 50 years time. In Italy Berlusconi had bunga bunga parties and survived and Johnson had a bit of cake and was destroyed politically. I say good riddance to BJ but all this hooha is ridiculous. It's still all about Brexit isn't it.

You clearly don't understand risk assessments.

You can reduce risks, accept risks, tolerate risks, but you can still get caught out.

derxa · 15/06/2023 14:48

jgw1 · 15/06/2023 14:43

@derxa It would be nice to have a thorough enquiry into the lies that Johnson and others told about Brexit as well wouldn't it?

It would be nice if you would address any points in my post directly instead of going off at a tangent. I didn't vote for Brexit.

CONFIRMED: MPs who criticised the Privileges Committee as a 'kangaroo court' face being disciplined in new report from the same committee

Excellent.

Rhondaa · 15/06/2023 14:51

'If there is no need for childish comments, and you have shown no interest in seriously engaging with the matter being discussed, where does that leave us?'

I've engaged. As we don't live in North Korea I think Im allowed to voice my opinion that a committee chaired by someone who had already tweeted her negative views on BJ before they even started, lacks credibility.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 15/06/2023 14:52

Why do they keep calling it a kangaroo court? It was an official committee that Johnson accepted.

kangaroo court
noun
noun: kangaroo court; plural noun: kangaroo courts
an unofficial court held by a group of people in order to try someone regarded, especially without good evidence, as guilty of a crime or misdemeanour.

Rhondaa · 15/06/2023 14:52

ilovesooty · 15/06/2023 14:49

Excellent.

Oh, perhaps we do live in North Korea afterall. Honestly, the privileges committee need to get over themselves.

Why do you think it is still about Brexit?

I know some of his defenders are making out that it is a revenge on brexit, do you agree with them or is it another red herring?

OrrAppleCheeks · 15/06/2023 14:54

@Janiie, I’d be really interested to hear your views about the remaining members of the committee, who were all appointed by the House?

And also, I’d love to know whether you think this should have been investigated at all, and by whom?

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2023 14:55

Do you deny that Johnson lied to Parliament?

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2023 14:57

I'm not sure anyone should be accusing Bernard Jenkyns of being Anti Brexit.

You don't take the behaviour in No10 during the pandemic seriously do you?

IClaudine · 15/06/2023 14:23

How did you see those staffroom, janiie?

@Janiie would you mind answering my question, please?

No.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 15/06/2023 15:08

Why would anyone seek revenge for Brexit? Surely they're too busy basking in the sunlit uplands, feasting on all their much cheaper food.

Calm your blustering. Until recently even Boris was an advocate of the committee as a procedure designed to hold government to account.

you’re the one seemingly arguing to allow a government to behave as dictators with no agreed recourse.

No but he's a bit of an odious character. In the 80s my now DH lived in a very grotty flat in Glasgow. One of the housemates was Jenkin's agent when he was trying to get elected to parliament. They put Jenkin's address as said grotty flat. He never set foot in the flat and never deigned to meet any of us.

pointythings · 15/06/2023 15:12

Look, it's very simple. The privileges committee was great, with it's Tory majority and all, until it failed to whitewash St. Boris the Fibber. At that point it became a bunch of tofu eating woke kangaroos, because it's fine for a Prime Minister to lie repeatedly to Parliament. If it's Saint Boris, that is.

There, summed up Janiie 's position. No more needs to be said.

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2023 15:12

Doesn't make him any less of a Brexiteer.

That's the crux of it isn't it. They see no issue in No10 pissing it up, puking up the walls, and lying about it while others weren't allowed to be with their dying loved ones.

Tory MP is odious man whose career is based on a lie. Nothing to see here.

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2023 15:26

Jenkin was seen as a stooge for Boris Johnson during the Paterson lobbying scandal, trying to get the latter of the hook

You can see why they wanted him on the Committee

derxa · 15/06/2023 15:32

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2023 15:12

No but it's useful to him to distance himself from Johnson

Efacsen · 15/06/2023 15:33

All 4 tory MPs are pro-Brexit so majority of committee were pro-Brexit

Anti Brexit revenge plot makes no sense

Because.................... it isn't true and just another Johnson lie

jgw1 · 15/06/2023 15:38

The subject, I am not sure if you are aware of this, is Boris Johnson's lying in the House of Parliament. Much like the question as to whether the Prime Minister should break the law, you have utterly failed to engage with.

Are you happy with having a Prime Minister lie in Parliament?

jgw1 · 15/06/2023 15:40

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2023 14:57

I'm not sure anyone should be accusing Bernard Jenkyns of being Anti Brexit.

Quite clearly he is anti the right kind of Brexit, which makes him as bad as a remoaner.
