Inspired by another thread talking about a lasagne sandwich, what is your favourite buttie.

Mine is probably chicken salad on brown seeded bread ..

OP posts:
custardcreme77 · 10/06/2023 05:50

*Branston pickle.

user1492757084 · 10/06/2023 05:57

Brie and Muscat Plum Jam toastie.
Tuna with butter and soft white bread.
Avocado and chicken on wholemeal.
Honey and cream on bagette.

Oblomov23 · 10/06/2023 06:02

Chicken club (chicken, bacon, tomatoes and lettuce with mayo) minus the third bit of bread (unnecessary), ie just a normal sandwich - 2 bits of bread.

oooh ooh ooh!!!!

This is my sort of thread!

  1. Proper ham and salad sandwich with iceberg lettuce; grated carrot; avocado; sliced red onion and a pineapple ring with lots of ham. White bread.
  2. white bread, grape honey and camembert
  3. white bread with a thin smear of unsalted butter and thinly sliced radishes (also nice as an open sandwich if using rye bread)
  4. Egg mayo with shredded iceberg (not cress)
  5. Open topped sandwiches with butter, caviar and a shot of vodka on the side
  6. wraps with tahini, bananas and sliced dates (could use peanut butter but we have allergies here)

I am sure I have more....

billysboy · 10/06/2023 06:44

Cheese and honey is a fab combination

Ooh, OP, this is a lovely thread. It’s making me hungry with so many tasty sandwich recipes to try.

I think most anything can go on most any bread! I don’t eat meat or fish but am up for trying most things on - or wrapped in - any bread. I don’t really have a favourite. (One thing I won’t eat is Heinz sandwich spread - nope, a definite turn off for me. I’m not keen on Branson pickle either but will suffer it if need be but it would have to be the finely chopped version.)

I love good old crisps on bread. Cheap date me, what? 😂

Mash potatoes, optional other stuff mixed in - any veg, esp sprouts with a smidgen of salt and lots of black pepper; a bit of gravy, stuffing, Yorkshire pud if any is left. Yum.

Stuffing butty just on its own, any time, any place, any bread. A great culinary delight.

Pie - oh, squashed cheese and onion pie - or quiche - on bread, ketchup optional.

Salad - just mixed salad, or cucumber and / or tomatoes. Piccalilli / mayo / salad cream optional but salt and ground black pepper is a must.

Sliced or crumbly cheese and onion / tomato, cold or toasted. Crumbly cheese can get a bit messy though, dropping out of the bread…

Marmite, with or without cheese but I’m going to try it with cucumber now - thanks saltrock123 for that suggestion.

Banana - sliced or squashed, esp on toast but nice on any bread. I may have tried it with marmite, too and quite liked it…

Jam on bread - when I have a yearning for something sweet.

Oh, I’m really hungry now.

Stuffing butty YES - culinary delight indeed

This thread has inspired me to make cheese and ham toasties for the DCs and tuna mayo; lettuce; carrot; pickled beetroot sandwich for me.

MrsGusset · 10/06/2023 12:11

Granary bread filled with a generous spreading of Dairylea & Marmite together with the crispiest leaves from an Iceberg lettuce is one of my favourites.

Lululoop · 10/06/2023 12:14

Ooo I'm going to have a peanut butter and crisp sandwich for lunch now.

BLT is my fave though

Barold · 10/06/2023 12:21

God, there are so many good ones!!!

Halloumi, grilled pepper and pesto. Coronation chicken. A club sandwich from room service (every time). Bacon, fried egg and ketchup. Tuna melt panini. Reuben. Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. Salt beef bagel. Beef and gravy. Chicken, salt and butter.

I’m sure I’ve missed some.

Bloody love a sandwich.

Barold · 10/06/2023 12:21

Oh and a crisp sandwich. Has to be cheese and onion or quavers. Some plastic cheese in with the former is also a winner.

Thebigblueballoon · 10/06/2023 12:27

This thread is really jeopardising my low carb diet today. 😋😩

Three favourites:

Slices of very rare roast beef, horseradish and rocket, on white bread with a thin layer of real butter.

Buttered fluffy white bap, filled with soggy chip shop chips doused with salt and vinegar, topped with small amount of tomato sauce.

Guilty pleasure from Subway - Italian BMT, untoasted and no cheese, filled with all the salad options and topped with honey mustard sauce.

Blueberrycreampie · 10/06/2023 12:31

Baguette halved lengthwise spread with Philly and topped with Smoky Bacon Crisps.
Baguette with cooked chicken, avocado and tomato.

Enko · 10/06/2023 12:35

Rye bread with hardboiled eggs prawns a bit of mayo and a dollop of caviar (lumpfish before anyone gets omg)

If it has to be a "butty" type then I'd sat tuna mayo but it has to be good bread and not too much mayo. A bit of salad or cucumber and red onion is good too

JulesJules · 10/06/2023 12:35

To buy - a cheese savoury and salad stottie (only available in Newcastle I think)

To make - brie, tomato and basil baguette, or cream cheese and beetroot.

Crunchy peanut butter, dairylea cream cheese and cucumber

This seems insane on an initial reading but I'm a big fan of crab stick, cream cheese and cucumber on brown bread and I think it's probably a similar idea.

KirstenBlest · 10/06/2023 13:09

Chip buttie

I like your first choice but PINEAPPLE oh no , that would get frisbee'd right across the room !
And what on earth is grape honey ?

Fish finger and avocado at home. Pret used to sell an amazing cream cheese and roasted veg sandwich, I wish they'd bring it back.

NatureNurture85 · 10/06/2023 14:42

Anything MIL makes she just has a knack! Her egg and tomato are amazing!

Chip buttie

How could I have missed that from my list, one of my favourites. I could just eat one now.

ThreeRingCircus · 10/06/2023 18:33

Baguette halved lengthwise spread with Philly and topped with Smoky Bacon Crisps.

Right, I'm making this ASAP!

OMGitsnotgood · 10/06/2023 18:41

i'm. a meat eater but loved a vegan sandwich made by a friend: grated carrot & sultanas mixed with a little french dressing

MotherofBassets · 10/06/2023 19:15

Try adding pineapple. I promise it's a taste sensation. We call it sweet Phillips. Even better if the baguette is slightly warm

weegiemum · 10/06/2023 19:23

Chicken and stuffing
Egg mayo

And my dh makes me mature cheddar and cucumber with mayo and loads of black pepper rolls. Those are the best!

Sandwiches are my favourite food though, as long as it's savoury and doesn't involve marmite I usually like it!
