Inspired by another thread talking about a lasagne sandwich, what is your favourite buttie.

Mine is probably chicken salad on brown seeded bread ..

Go wild and have 3 , pick pudding sandwich too .

Apparently as a kid my dad liked banana and condensed milk with a dusting of cocoa powder 🤔

In that case does bread & butter pudding count 😆

DDivaStar · 07/06/2023 23:18

I love a cheese and pickle, fish finger or sausage sandwich.

My favourite is chicken, melted brie, lettuce and mango chutney. 😋

Whoknowswhatanymore · 07/06/2023 23:18

I could eat a sandwich for every meal (but I don’t)! Sausage sandwich with runny fried egg on top and lashings of tomato ketchup or cheese/chicken/turkey salad with coleslaw or ham and tomato or ham and beetroot or tuna mayo and cucumber or tinned salmon in vinegar with cucumber, cheese savoury, chicken and bacon, cheese and tomato, I’m sure I could go on…and don’t get me started on wraps…love M&S Chicken Caesar wrap!

IncompleteSenten · 07/06/2023 23:21

I tell people my favourite sandwiches are (1)turkey brie and cranberry on an open baguette and (2) salmon, avocado and cream cheese on olive bread.

My actual favourite sandwich is the soggy underlayer of Frey bentos pie pastry top on white super thick toastie bread with ketchup.

IncompleteSenten · 07/06/2023 23:22

Oh - bonus if I squish half a packet of wotsits in there too.

bluebeardswife7 · 07/06/2023 23:27

Mustard on one side , pastrami, pickles (so they don't make the bread soggy) emmental cheese slice rocket mayonnaise more bread.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/06/2023 23:28

Bacon, I had a bacon sandwich today with ketchup and it was amazing 😋

My daddy introduced me to the pork pie sandwich.

Peanut butter damson jam and chopped banana.

Yarnysaura · 07/06/2023 23:30

Bacon and fried egg
or
Ploughman's (pickle, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sliced pickled onions, mayo)
or
Tuna, vinegar, cucumber
or
Cheese and tomato with lots of butter
or
Egg mayo on a hot buttered bagel
or
Chip butty, lots of butter, salt and vinegar

ScottBakula · 07/06/2023 23:30

@IncompleteSenten , the 'wrong' sandwiches are often the right ones

If I could eat whatever I wanted I could happily live on sandwiches and toast.

Chicken mayo and grapes (this might be a NI thing)

Tuna mayo and cucumber

Turkey, stuffing, cranberry, mayo

Peanut butter and jam, usually have this on toast or a bagel

Banana (has to be on granary bread with butter)

Peanut butter and banana

Cheddar cheese and tomato

Cheese savoury on granary bread

Prosciutto, mozzarella, rocket, cherry tomatoes drizzled with balsamic on ciabatta

Bacon, avocado, cream cheese and chutney, in a bagel or a brioche roll

Halloumi, avocado, spinach, rocket and sweet chilli mayo in a toasted wrap - a local café does this and it's amazing

Mozzarella, pesto, spinach and sun dried tomatoes in a wrap (Waitrose do a version of this, it's my favourite bought sandwich)

A guilty pleasure that I have once in a blue moon is a wholemeal roll with mayo, two Dairylea cheese slices and a couple of slices of cheap cooked ham. Have this maybe once or twice a year, I never eat cooked ham otherwise, I only like it in this particular sandwich 😄

RunningUpThatMill · 07/06/2023 23:41

I had the Beyond Chicken style burgers today with coleslaw, iceberg lettuce and ketchup. That was pretty good.

Also love plant-based pastrami in a warm baguette, with gherkins, mustard mayo and melted sheeze.

almostoverthehill · 07/06/2023 23:45

Cheese and piccalilli

ScottBakula · 07/06/2023 23:46

One sandwich I use to make was a Stuffed Buttie , it takes a while to make but is worth it.

One short but wide baguette
Your choice of filling , you will need a lot of filling so salad* *isa good idea.
Cut the tip of the baguette off , using a spoon and been very careful not to break the crust scoop out the bread centre put this in a bowl.
Chop up your filling into smallish bits and mix with the bread add mayo / salad for cream etc then very carefully stuff it all back in the crust packing it in tightly.
Wrap the whole lot tightly in foil.
I ate them when working at a job where there was never anywhere to sit down or put your lunch / brew down. As they can be easily eaten with one hand. Buttie in one hand, brew in the other 🥖☕️

Chicken and stuffing is divine.

Also partial to a good egg mayo and cress on brown bread

Classic white bread with butter and crisps is something I loved as a kid but haven't had for so long, I'm worried it won't taste as good as I remember

dudsville · 07/06/2023 23:53

I do love a good simple well made sandwich, egg, chicken, tuna etc., when out, but at home i make amazing veggie ones. I put hummus, grated carrot, sliced beetroot, cheese, olives, salad leaves, basically anything. Some cracked black pepper. They're juicy, tasty and filling!

AlltheFs · 07/06/2023 23:57

I really like a plain cheese sandwich- lovely fresh bakery bread, really good cheese (can be something different to cheddar but has to be lots of it), proper butter.

I also really like egg mayo.

I can’t stand any form of salad in a sandwich, I love salad but not in between bread. It’s a texture thing.

Bacon/fishfinger sandwiches are my favourite hot sandwiches.

Casilero · 07/06/2023 23:58

This thread is a fantastic resource for future sandwich heaven. Loads on here I've not tried but sound delicious. I especially like the idea of your stuffed baguette @ScottBakula

BarelyLiterate · 07/06/2023 23:59

Mozzarella, tomato, pesto & rocket on focaccia for me please. 😋

Alternatively, sausages fried mushrooms & HP sauce.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/06/2023 23:59

Montreal smoked meat, a bit of dijon, sauerkraut, on rye and steamed.

Chopped left-over roast chicken with mayo and chopped green grapes.

A good gyro

Left over Thanksgiving/Christmas turkey, mayo, dressing, cranberry sauce on brioche ... even better smothered in gravy.

cranberry, brie, and turkey

egg salad, sometimes with tomato

salmon salad, sometimes with pickle

mmmm... sandwiches. 😛😛😛😛

Tereseta · 08/06/2023 00:00

Fish fingers mashed with vinegar and tomato sauce on buttered white bread! (Or with loads of tarter sauce if being posh)
