Inspired by another thread talking about a lasagne sandwich, what is your favourite buttie.

Mine is probably chicken salad on brown seeded bread ..

The Christmas sandwich is the ultimate I think. There's no beating it. All of the bits from Christmas dinner... including stuffing, yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes chopped up and heated up in the microwave then mixed with hot gravy and spread on a crusty roll. It's hands down my favourite meal of the year!

On baguettes I love brie, crispy bacon and chilli jam.

In a wrap I'd want falafel, hummus, avocado and sweet chilli sauce.

Sweet sandwich I love peanut butter and nutella on cheap white bread. Even better when it's toasted.

Katsu(pork cutlet) sandwich and Chicken teriyaki sandwich. Heaven.

Marmalade and tomato sprinkled with a bit of curry powder makes a good sandwich. Also marmalade and cream cheese.

Marmalade and stilton is also amazing as a combination. But I tend to eat that spread on digestive biscuits!

Stopped off in a a Tesco for a sandwich a few weeks ago, roasted veg with harissa paste. Heavenly.

That sounds really good. I love a sweet and savory combination. And I can get digestive biscuits where I live in the US or I can try this with a graham cracker.

A proper french baguette in France. Thick layer of unsalted butter then lots of thick sliced quite salty home cooked ham. Washed down with a very cold french beer.

jelly79 · 08/06/2023 20:53

Oh god the list is endless

Ham and mustard with crisp. Simples
Chicken club with chips and coleslaw
Steak ciabatta

Diversion · 08/06/2023 21:01

BLT on white sliced bread or roast beef with onion, rocket and mayo on a crusty white baguette. Also partial to a brie and bacon sandwich on a crusty baguette too. I could happily live on nice sandwiches

saltrock123 · 08/06/2023 21:16

Marmite and cucumber on white bread.

I eat everything, and like most sandwiches but used to love one boots sold. Grated carrot, rocket and hummus. I've tried making it at home and its just not the same and they don't tell is anymore!

Was it the one with alfalfa sprouts?

Snowpaw · 08/06/2023 21:38

Thinly sliced floppy turkey (the Americans do this best), mustard, mayo, a slice of Swiss cheese, lettuce, lots of pickled items (banana peppers and gherkins).

CC4712 · 08/06/2023 21:38

@MumUndone I don't recall the sandwich having alfalfa sprouts- no. It wasn't a Boots own sandwich, but an eco type company with green packaging and pics of the sandwich makers etc I think. This was 10yrs ago though.

fuckitfuckitall · 08/06/2023 21:58

Wrap with mayo, mozzarella, decent tomatoes and fresh basil.
Bonus points if you make a 2nd

fuckitfuckitall · 08/06/2023 21:59

Also
Warburtons white bread with Lurpak, Bovril and Pom bears

LizHoney · 08/06/2023 22:04

I haven't had it for 30 years; but my dad used to make one with cream cheese, dates and dry roasted peanuts. I remember it being delicious. I might try it again.

TellySavalashairbrush · 08/06/2023 22:07

Cream cheese and salmon with cucumber on a toasted bagel. Had one from ‘Gail’s’ today. Mind you I nearly fell over when they told me the price - £6.60!!! That will definitely be a once in a blue moon treat.

JimnJoyce · 08/06/2023 23:09

strong cheddar and chunky picalilly on thick cut granary or tiger bread.

Citygirlrurallife · 08/06/2023 23:11

My mum used to make one in the toastie maker: roast chicken, cream cheese and curry powder

guilty pleasure would be very mature cheddar, real butter and salt and vinegar crisps on farmhouse white bread

but my probably every day favourite would be homemade hummus, siracha, cucumber, little gems, olives, spring onions, sun dried tomatoes, grated carrot on really fresh granary bread

NextTimeItsOver · 09/06/2023 10:40

When I was a kid I'd cut the meat off lamb chops and put it in between buttered white bread along with some peas and mash. I'd use the sandwich to mop up the gravy. It was so tasty.

sashh · 10/06/2023 02:14

Not necessarily my favorite but tastes really good is a pita bread with bacon, lettuce and crème fraiche.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 10/06/2023 02:20

Chicken or turkey sandwich. Or cheese!
On grainy bread or white.

Furries · 10/06/2023 03:38

Chicken is my favourite filling.

I cook a chicken crown and then shred the meat. It’s then easy to chuck a portion in a bowl - current favourites are:

Break up 1-2 strips of crispy smoked bacon, add to chicken and mix with mayo.

Break up 1-2 strips of crispy smoked bacon, same Parmesan cheese and lettuce - mix with Caesar dressing

Add some sliced avocado

All 3 options served in a toasted bagel - all of them blooming lovely.

Marmite and cucumber on white bread.

I’m trying this, I love marmite.

custardcreme77 · 10/06/2023 05:49

Ooh, OP, this is a lovely thread. It’s making me hungry with so many tasty sandwich recipes to try.

I think most anything can go on most any bread! I don’t eat meat or fish but am up for trying most things on - or wrapped in - any bread. I don’t really have a favourite. (One thing I won’t eat is Heinz sandwich spread - nope, a definite turn off for me. I’m not keen on Branson pickle either but will suffer it if need be but it would have to be the finely chopped version.)

I love good old crisps on bread. Cheap date me, what? 😂

Mash potatoes, optional other stuff mixed in - any veg, esp sprouts with a smidgen of salt and lots of black pepper; a bit of gravy, stuffing, Yorkshire pud if any is left. Yum.

Stuffing butty just on its own, any time, any place, any bread. A great culinary delight.

Pie - oh, squashed cheese and onion pie - or quiche - on bread, ketchup optional.

Salad - just mixed salad, or cucumber and / or tomatoes. Piccalilli / mayo / salad cream optional but salt and ground black pepper is a must.

Sliced or crumbly cheese and onion / tomato, cold or toasted. Crumbly cheese can get a bit messy though, dropping out of the bread…

Marmite, with or without cheese but I’m going to try it with cucumber now - thanks saltrock123 for that suggestion.

Banana - sliced or squashed, esp on toast but nice on any bread. I may have tried it with marmite, too and quite liked it…

Jam on bread - when I have a yearning for something sweet.

Oh, I’m really hungry now.
