How much would you expect to pay for this?

If you're in a cafe and order chicken mayonnaise sandwiches but ask to add a little chopped red onion to the sandwich.

How much would you expect to pay for the addition of red onion?

£2.95 for red onion when all the sandwiches cost the same? Surely that’s a mistake

Nope. Apparently that's the price yet they don't put it on the menu. If I'd ordered a king prawn sandwich, it's a £2.95 supplement yet I'm supposed to pay the same for a tiny bit of red onion.

I wouldn't be going back, not a cats chance in hell

CornishGem1975 · 03/06/2023 18:00

If it's an ingredient that they'd already have chopped up for use in other menu items, and you're talking red onion - I wouldn't expect to be charged anything. A piece of ham being added to a cheese sarnie then yes that should have a cost but a bit of onion? Nah.

00100001 · 03/06/2023 18:03

literally nothing i f it was a £7.50 sandwich tbh

Thanks all. I appreciate the responses.

So £2.95 for a bit of chopped onion is a little excessive then?

FMD YES That's properly over the top!!

given the set up you describe, I wouldn't expect to pay anything for a bit of red onion.

I haven't really eaten out at all since pre covid. But this week I have & despite hearing everyone talk about the rise in prices, I've still been shocked at the prices and even more shocked at what's on the menu v what gets delivered.

Today I ordered a halloumi ciabatta with blah blah inside and fries & a rocket & cucumber salad, dressed.

the halloumi ciabatta was actually really good, but the scatty few fries were cold & the salad consisted of a few very very limp pieces of rocket. No cucumber and not dressed.

I didn't complain as I'd had a lovely afternoon in their pub garden, the staff were lovely and the sandwich was nice, but I'd rather they didn't overstate the 'salad' it was barely a garnish

This. They lack of transparent pricing is very underhanded.

isthisit83 · 03/06/2023 18:06

😱😱😱

That's bonkers!!! They are just relying on people being to embarrassed to say anything or just not using their brains as the till says add £2.95.

Namechangeed · 03/06/2023 18:07

£1 where I am. Some places £0. Depends

@Greenbeanmcgee How long have they been running this (MAD) system?

Mumof4alsoabonus · 03/06/2023 18:08

I definitely wouldn’t go back. Good on you for speaking up. A lot of people would have just paid it and it’s wrong that they are getting away with it.

RisingSunn · 03/06/2023 18:08

25p - 50p

Rainbowsandfairies · 03/06/2023 18:12

50p -£1

scrantonelectriccity · 03/06/2023 18:13

You wanted ham in a tuna mayo sandwich?!

Rainbowsandfairies · 03/06/2023 18:13

Greedy bs 🙄 😠😡

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 03/06/2023 18:15

@£7.50 you should have already left the building...

Applecoresweet · 03/06/2023 18:17

50p

Xmasbaby11 · 03/06/2023 18:21

I’d expect 50p to £1. But if it wasn’t listed I’d ask before ordering as I’ve been stung before when a minor addition is £££

Applecoresweet · 03/06/2023 18:27

Daylight robbery

RosesAndHellebores · 03/06/2023 18:30

Poor service, because you won't go back. Tops I'd say 50p.

Thesearmsofmine · 03/06/2023 18:34

That’s excessive! I wouldn’t go back.

I'd be announcing tis all over their socials.

Absolute piss take.

Laiste · 03/06/2023 18:34

£7.50 for a sandwich!?
I wouldn't pay that.

I know that's not the point of the thread but i've been thinking it the whole time i've been reading it and i have to say it 😂

3 quid for a bit of onion is just ..... fucking robbery.

Iceicebabytoocold · 03/06/2023 18:35

For a little red onion, I would not expect to pay anything extra.

Laiste · 03/06/2023 18:36

I hope the £7.50 sandwich came with a big pile of crisps and some nice salad!

diddl · 03/06/2023 18:38

That seems an awful lot to me as well.

With the "extra" more than a tenner!

Hope it was very good Op!
