How much would you expect to pay for this?

If you're in a cafe and order chicken mayonnaise sandwiches but ask to add a little chopped red onion to the sandwich.

How much would you expect to pay for the addition of red onion?

I would hope they wouldn't charge anything, but if they did I'd think anything over 50p is ridiculous.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 03/06/2023 17:08

Nothing if advertised as build your own.

OliviaFlaversham · 03/06/2023 17:10

Nothing if there were similar sandwiches advertised at the same price. Eg if there was a sausage and onion one for £6 then if I wanted onion added to a £6 cheese sandwich I’d expect to pay no extra.

FloofCloud · 03/06/2023 17:10

Don't they advertise on their menu how much extra it is per item?

I'd assume in a cafe the sandwich was say £6, and it ended up being £7 approx?

No. There's no mention of cost.

And the sandwiches are all the same cost regardless of filling. The only ones that are individually priced are the more expensive sandwiches like steak.

20p

mondaytosunday · 03/06/2023 17:16

Nothing. The place I go to a lot has set sandwiches, but also has all the fillings laid out and you can add what you want. It's the same price for a plain bacon on a baguette as it is for bacon, salad, tomatoes and sweet corn. They charge for the base meat, all the extras are free. If it nearly matches one of their set sandwiches (like bacon, avocado and chicken), they charge that. But you can add all sorts for nothing extra.
The vase sandwiches cost about £4.50-5.50, if they added £1 for red onions that would be crazy.

I don’t understand the question then if you’ve said they’re all the same price regardless of filling?

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 03/06/2023 17:18

I wouldn't expect to pay anything tbh but maybe I'm being unrealistic and grabby! I would t object to anything up to £1 though

Thebigblueballoon · 03/06/2023 17:18

I’d expect to pay £1 in a cafe. But I bet they charged you £2, going on this question.

Greenbeanmcgee · 03/06/2023 17:18

Because the fillings listed on the menu are all one price. Other fillings are available off menu.

So they have chicken mayonnaise on the menu but I asked for chicken mayo and red onion.

OP posts:
PaigeMatthews · 03/06/2023 17:19

Nothing

ditalini · 03/06/2023 17:21

Red onion is a garnish not a filling, so assuming it's available and prepared anyway, probably nothing but I wouldn't quibble if they added 50p for their trouble.

If all sandwiches being made from scratch then nothing.

Pteryl · 03/06/2023 17:25

How much is the chicken mayo filling? I would class onion as a salad item, but I couldn’t say the price until I know what a regular sandwich costs.

Greenbeanmcgee · 03/06/2023 17:27

The sandwiches are normally £7.50

Lovelynames123 · 03/06/2023 17:29

I own a cafe, we charge extra for double fillings, say if you wanted to add cheese to a ham sandwich, but we'd chuck a bit of red onion in for nothing.

Baystar · 03/06/2023 17:31

£7.51

Smidge001 · 03/06/2023 17:32

When are you going to tell us?

MochiDonutt · 03/06/2023 17:35

Nothing, especially as everything is laid out. I would expect to pay extra for additional meat or avocado though.

littlemousebigcheese · 03/06/2023 17:36

About £1.50 but I was recently stung when ordering a sandwich - wanted a ham and tuna mayo one and they charged me for a ham sandwich plus a tuna sandwich so it came to £11 for one thing 😭

AnnaKorine · 03/06/2023 17:38

1 Pound

LorraineInSpain · 03/06/2023 17:40

About £1 - would expect it to be charged as an additional filling

GrazingSheep · 03/06/2023 17:40

When are you going to do the big reveal?
