How often do you wash your duvet?

As summer approaches, drying a duvet becomes easier. I'm curious about how frequently you wash your duvet in the summer. Do you find yourself doing it less often in the winter? Also, how do you manage to dry your duvet during the winter months?

Ours are feather/down & get washed at the end of the season when they get changed for the winter/summer one. The winter ones are too big for the machine so they go to the dry cleaners. The summer ones are dried on the line to start with & finished in the dryer.

I'm a slattern. I've never washed my duvet. I'll maybe wipe it down with stain remover if I've dropped something on the duvet cover and it's soaked right through but that's about it. I don't even think it would fit in the washing machine anyway.

I have summer and winter duvets, always wash them before they’re put on the bed for the season and they usually have an extra 1-2 washes during that time thanks to spills!

Life is too short for that. Never washed. I’m still alive.

Gettingbysomehow · 29/05/2023 23:31

Every couple of weeks. I have a quick dry coverless duvet.

HawdMeBack · 29/05/2023 23:34

Never.

Another person in the never camp here too!

I have two different tog duvets for spring/summer and autumn/winter. They each get washed at the launderette when I swap them over, so they're washed once a year after about 6 months' use. Assuming you use a duvet cover why would you wash it any more often than that?

ichundich · 29/05/2023 23:38

Once a year.

justasking111 · 29/05/2023 23:39

Never wash it's too big. But on a nice breezy day I hang it over the decking rail to air

LilyLemonade · 29/05/2023 23:41

Never. But put it out in the sun to air every once in a while.

DressDilemma · 29/05/2023 23:42

Once every two months or so.

TomatoSandwiches · 29/05/2023 23:42

We have Winter and summer Duvets, summer ones get done once a month winter every 3 months.

And no we don't use top sheets <shudder>

Somanycats · 29/05/2023 23:43

When I change from the summer to winter ones.

shadowchancesassy · 29/05/2023 23:43

Never wash just buy new ones every year or so.

StillMedusa · 30/05/2023 00:17

Nope.. I buy new ones each year as I generally spill coffee on them at least a few times!
I bought my DD1 a coverless one tho, and she pops it through the wash every month..thinking of getting one for us!

SirenSays · 30/05/2023 00:20

About 3 or 4 times a year

PickAChew · 30/05/2023 00:21

Ours is wool and not washable. Others get washed when they're changed over between summer and winter, unless they get soiled, somehow.

WeightoftheWorld · 30/05/2023 00:23

Also never, am shocked but reassured to see many people say the same. We use king size duvets which wouldn't fit in the washing machine. Not even sure DD's singles would tbh.

GodspeedJune · 30/05/2023 00:25

Mine is superking but I go to the laundrette to use their largest machine.

DiscoBeat · 30/05/2023 00:33

I must admit I only wash it when it comes out of storage (3 duvets for the different seasons, so about every 4 months).

Aslanplustwo · 30/05/2023 00:36

Never. I air them every now and again, and if they really needed cleaning would take to the dry cleaners (washing machine too small).

echt · 30/05/2023 00:37

Never. Mine's wool and I use it all seasons, with a heavy throw on top for winter.

It's regularly aired in the summer months by being hung over the balcony, turned after a few hours - the Aussie sun does the rest.

RavenclawLuna · 30/05/2023 00:40

Never, I buy a new one every year

Ketzele · 30/05/2023 00:45

Never.
