How often do you wash your duvet?

As summer approaches, drying a duvet becomes easier. I'm curious about how frequently you wash your duvet in the summer. Do you find yourself doing it less often in the winter? Also, how do you manage to dry your duvet during the winter months?

Not here either 🤷‍♀️

i have very occasionally taken our super king to the laundrette as too big to fit in our washer, but am more likely to just buy a new one. I do wash the kids single ones at home though, twice a year - on a warm day in spring and again early autumn so they line dry before bedtime.

Cannot believe how many people buy new duvets every year!

Want do you do with old ones? Donate them somewhere I hope!

I'm so glad (disgusted?!) to hear some people say never. I only ever air mine outside on the line every so often. Never wash it. Had a winter and a summer one for years. Of course the duvet cover gets changed every week (OK, fortnight).

My pillow however gets replaced every year.

fguuhs · 30/05/2023 01:04

I normally do it every season change. I take it to a laundrette although I have managed to stuff it in the washing machine in an emergency.

I think it cost about £500 so I personally wouldn't buy a new one every year.

HeddaGarbled · 30/05/2023 01:15

Never. Won’t fit in washing machine. No local laundrettes.

JandalsAlways · 30/05/2023 02:40

Never 🤢

CrunchyCarrot · 30/05/2023 03:08

My summer weight one is washed once a year when it's a nice warm/hot day. It (just) fits into my washing machine. My 10.5 tog one is never washed. I may air it on the line if we get hot weather, but that's it.

ToeJammed · 30/05/2023 04:55

I have dual duvets, that press stud together for winter weight and separate for summer weight so I generally wash the summer ones before attaching it to the winter ones, and the winter ones before storing it for summer, so basically once every six months.
I have single sized duvets on a super sized bed as this is normal in my home country, so it's what I grew up with.
I wash them in the washing machine and dry them in the dryer.

GoalShooter · 30/05/2023 04:57

Never

User18538754 · 30/05/2023 05:51

The summer one once a year before it is put away, I usually pick a drying day and finish off in dryer to make sure thoroughly dry. The winter one won't fit in the machine so never. If either looked grubby or worn out, I replace them

SpringBunnies · 30/05/2023 05:54

When I swap them for the season.

JustJoinedRightNow · 30/05/2023 05:56

Never

We have button together ones and I wash the autumn part in spring when we switch to the summer part, and the summer part in autumn when we switch to the autumn part. Also if someone has been ill. We all have single, down duvets so they can go in the washing machine and tumbler. When we had a double I took the separate parts to the dry cleaner once a year.

ApolloandDaphne · 30/05/2023 07:52

Never. It is a super king and wouldn't go the washing machine. We have no launderettes around here either. The duvet isn't dirty so why wash it?

CindersAgain · 30/05/2023 08:00

Never. I washed it by hand in the bath once, following child peeing on it. It was a nightmare. Finally got it dried by using the clothes airer against a radiator but I thought it was going to go fusty, it was taking so long.

LT2 · 30/05/2023 08:14

Never here too. I agree that life is too short for something like that. It isn't going to affect me either way whether i wash it or not (it wouldn't fit in our washing machine but I would bother taking it to a launderette either)

DontTouchMyMug · 30/05/2023 08:18

Never. It's wool, it's super king. It was far too expensive to replace regularly (plus that is so wasteful!)

Twoshoesnewshoes · 30/05/2023 08:20

Only if the dog wees on it.
so so far, three times.

Fillyfrog · 30/05/2023 08:21

Never

Roselilly36 · 30/05/2023 08:21

When we swap from summer to winter duvet, I always wash the one that won’t be used and put it away clean ready for when needed. I do have a big 10kg washing machine though, that will wash a Superking duvet.

VillageLite · 30/05/2023 08:22

We have feather/down duvets.

Washed once a year each in summer, on a hot dry day with no chance of rain.

Winter ones get packed away after washing, summer ones go back on the bed.

AxolotlOnions · 30/05/2023 08:24

I have massive issues with executive function so most would be horrified by my house but the one thing I'm good with is laundry, washing it not putting it away anyway! I do my duvet about 4 times a year, pillows more often.

Elipse · 30/05/2023 08:27

Never. It gets an occasional airing, that's all.

IglesiasPiggl · 30/05/2023 08:29

We have winter and summer ones so I wash them when I change them over. The singles fit in my machine, the king size takes 35 mins in the jumbo machine at the laundrette round the corner. I wait for a fine day, wash first thing then hang out to dry all day.
