How often do you wash your duvet?

As summer approaches, drying a duvet becomes easier. I'm curious about how frequently you wash your duvet in the summer. Do you find yourself doing it less often in the winter? Also, how do you manage to dry your duvet during the winter months?

Doesn't fit in the washing machine so oh well, why bother

ShinySh · 01/06/2023 22:37

So, I have one wool duvet - never wash it.

one feather duvet - never wash, replace every 3 - 4 years depending on its general state. Recent purchases don’t seem to last, the filler going into the edges anyway and nothing left in the middle! Maybe I’ve been unlucky.

one synthetic - wash once a year

Never even considered it

Every week, I am so into these coverless duvets. I have 2 summer ones and 2 winter ones, but tbh they can be washed and dried in the tumble on the sand day.

I recycle the old ones and know how to manage my budget. I normally spend about £70 on the duvet and pillows each time as shop in the sales

Got a decent king size 7.5tog duvet for £16 from
dunelm last weekend, I doubt I could get it washed and dried once at laundrette for much less than that.
A new duvet every couple of years costs less than washing! Especially in a flat so can’t dry outside - so would be wash and dry at laundrette.

£150 for a duvet??? 😤

Avacadoandtoast · 01/06/2023 22:56

i didn’t know this was a thing…

TowelRailing · 01/06/2023 22:57

I think my duvet is lucky to get a clean cover every week.

It’s actually never occurred to me you wash my duvet! 😳
Duvet cover gets washed every week

2anddone · 01/06/2023 23:01

Is washing the actual duvet a thing BlushConfusedI wash the cover but never the actual duvet!

LouLou198 · 01/06/2023 23:19

Didn't know you were supposed to wash them! Surely that's why we have duvet covers?

FirstFallopians · 01/06/2023 23:22

Never with the ones we have at the moment. They’re super kings, one down and the other wool. I think them being made from natural fibres helps prevent them going manky.

For our previous bed we had a synthetic double duvet which did fit in the machine. I noticed the man-made fabrics did make it go a bit bleugh after a while, so it got washed twice a year or so.

I wash the kids more frequently due to sick bugs or the occasional accident- they’re low tog synthetic singles and it’s minimal effort.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/06/2023 23:30

Never, but it does get hung out in the sun and fresh air a few times a year.

Did that today and have a lovely fresh-smelling bed to go to tonight.

bonfirebash · 01/06/2023 23:32

Never as it's a wool one that isn't washable. I hang it up every so often to air it

MyMachineAndMe · 01/06/2023 23:51

Never. I didn't realise you were supposed to unless it was absolutely necessary.

Tinkerbyebye · 02/06/2023 00:07

Never

PerryMenno · 02/06/2023 00:13

I washed one once - at a launderette - purely to fluff up the down. But now I have a wool one and don't plan on ever washing it, if it ever looks or feels manky it'll be replaced. It gets aired and sprayed with an essential oil spray every week when the cover is changed.

Neekoh · 22/06/2023 20:51

@PerryMenno & @bonfirebash How have you found the wool duvets? I'm very interested in making the switch. Any recommendations/comments on what to look for? TIA Flowers

AgentProvocateur · 22/06/2023 20:58

Every night. 😉

I have a woolroom one and love it
My dad was very dad like and did the whole poking it and "hmmm". Then bought himself one! He loves it too

hungryh1ppo · 22/06/2023 22:00

We have a comforter so it's all in one. I wash it fortnightly. The dc also have comforters. It's much easier than putting duvet covers on and off!

Jshq · 22/06/2023 22:03

Never, it doesn't fit in my washing machine.

Thereoughttobeclowns · 22/06/2023 22:05

Summer one, maybe 3 or 4 times a year while the weather’s good and it can dry outside.

Winter one gets dry cleaned in spring before it gets put away. Too big to machine wash.

Penguin34 · 22/06/2023 22:07

When a small person wee's or is sick on it

Justleaveitblankthen · 22/06/2023 22:23

At the end of summer/autumn/winter before they are stored away.
I have 3 different togs 😁

Scarfweather · 22/06/2023 22:27

Once a year, but I do air them outside in the sun every month
