It's been a while, I haven't had one since new years eve and it's safe to say I am scandalised.....

For reference it was one bag of salt and pepper chicken balls with a bag of chips

One mixed meat satay with fried rice.

A tub of mixed ribs.

One tub of crispy seaweed but it's not seaweed.

About £46 here in Cambridge plus delivery.

DuckyShincracker · 27/05/2023 20:22

£35 not including delivery

£30 min. Here in Surrey Chinese is really expensive. I’m from North Wales and rice or chips comes free with every main dish like Beef Curry for example. Last week I went to the coast (West Wittering) and we got 1 x Pork curry, 1 x Chicken curry, 1 x Satay beef, 1 x noodle type dish, 1 chips and 1 Singapore fried rice. £32! What a bargain! That would have been double that here where I live in Surrey

Wow so I'm now wondering if I'm out of touch. Haven't had a takeaway for ages and would have guessed at £25.

I ‘made’ Chinese this evening, as the last time we ordered it, it came to over £150 for us all! Also teenage boys were hungry afterwards.
tonight I did - crispy duck (slow raised duck myself, bought pancakes). Spring rolls (bought M&S), steamed gyoza (bought - massive pack Costco).
main - chilli beef and asparagus (cheaper as we picked asparagus), crispy chicken - i made.
all less than £50 (for 6 of us).

gogohmm · 27/05/2023 20:28

£30 from the cheap one, £40 from the other (that isn't any better!)

MrsClatterbuck · 27/05/2023 20:29

I can get prawns with satay sauce and boiled rice for £8. Sometimes I only eat half and finish it the next day. They also do an extra large portion for £2 and side for £1 great for sharing.

I spent £40 on fish and chips a while ago, for three people! I'm yet to recover. Tbf, the portions were massive, I'd had a small fish and chips and there was more than I'd have expected for standard sized.. but.. STILL!

We are kinda screwed. Fish has nearly tripled in cost.
Oil has tripled in cost
Potatoes have doubled in cost and struggling to source them. Chances are many shops will close soon down to no potatoes.
Shops are handing back their keys as they cannot survive this cost of living crisis
What do you suggest? Change our status to a charity?

Aristotleapostle · 27/05/2023 20:36

Hahaha I want to slow raise a duck but then keep it as a pet and love it,not eat it

Motheranddaughter · 27/05/2023 20:36

£40

sweetdreamstenasee · 27/05/2023 20:37

I put your order into my deliveroo app and it came to £42 without delivery and without the seaweed because they didn’t have any. North East London.

If I paid £51 for 3 portions of fish and chips I'd complain about it until the day I died and then I'd jump up after my death to remind everyone.

Ridiculous!!

On holiday in Norfolk last year I ordered fish and chips for four of us and it was over £60. White faced, I stumbled back to the car clutching the takeaway bags and only then remembered my son’s girlfriend was with us and I needed to go back for another portion. Still not over it tbh.

Mollygoodgolly · 27/05/2023 20:39

SO WHAT'S THE ANSWER?

Freshlycutgrasss · 27/05/2023 20:39

Between £25 - £30. South coast

KitKat1985 · 27/05/2023 20:39

£30?

I had a chuckle, too. 🙃
Likely meant, slow braised...
Dinner definitely sounds good, though!

shellyleppard · 27/05/2023 20:41

About £25 to £30 quid in my little part of the world.... always get free prawn crackers though 😁😁

Dente · 27/05/2023 20:42

40 + delivery

mrsbyers · 27/05/2023 20:43

£26

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 27/05/2023 20:43

We spent A HUNDRED QUID on Chinese takeaway for three adults the other week. And that was with the discount for collection. Madness.

And we paid £57.13 for three cod and chips, two gherkins, two pots of homemade tartar sauce and a Diet Coke last night. The portions were massive, though.

Aristotleapostle · 27/05/2023 20:44

Prob around £35 here now.Tbh the price of any takeaway is so high compared to the food you get,I only order when its a deal like £15 off an uber order or 50% off deliveroo. We are Solihull/Birmingham and there are loads of apps/deals/promos,you just have to try and take advantage when you can otherwise the prices just take the p
