What would this chinese takeaway cost where you are and have a guess at what I paid

It's been a while, I haven't had one since new years eve and it's safe to say I am scandalised.....

For reference it was one bag of salt and pepper chicken balls with a bag of chips

One mixed meat satay with fried rice.

A tub of mixed ribs.

One tub of crispy seaweed but it's not seaweed.

£22

@jaundicedoutlook I know, right?! What a mess! Keep the prawns separate to the meats and the rice separate and the seaweed separate. Who tucks into everything poured out together on one plate?!

Mr Creosote…

It's the norm round here. West Yorkshire

Yes the norm in your area but I'd expect that the average takeaway U.K wide would cost considerably more.

Indeed, I'm also in West Yorkshire and I remember some years ago a few of us went on a course 'down south'. We were all shocked at the prices of Chinese and Indian takeaways and restaurants that were easily 50-100% more than what we were used to for less food and you had to pay for chips, rice and poppadoms and pickle trays.

We were used to a main being about a fiver with everything else being free.

30ish

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 27/05/2023 19:43

It was a mixed satay, the prawns are part of it. Its poured over the rice because I like the sauce over the rice......the rest is all separate.

I was too blinded by shock after paying for it to bother artfully displaying it.

|Gives me the absolute horrors when people put East Asian food all on one plate. Mixed up. Massive boak factor.

It's a good thing that you aren't the one eating it then.

Why do people need to be absolute wankers? The OP wasn't asking people to share her meal, so no need to comment on how it's presented.

Does being a rude prick make you warm and fuzzy inside?

HoldingTheDoor · 27/05/2023 19:44

I'm now considering moving to West Yorkshire.

Yes it does - there’s nothing more exhilarating than calling people out on their cultural barbarisms!

ShakeYourFeathers · 27/05/2023 19:47

According to my local Chinese menu that would come to £22.20

but they didn't do the mixed satay or mixed ribs so just went with similar

Yerroblemom1923 · 27/05/2023 19:48

@jaundicedoutlook who's Mr Creosote???

ChrisPPancake · 27/05/2023 19:48

Just priced it up at our nearest, £34 including cheapest fried rice. House special fried rice with a load of extra meats makes it £35.60.

Have a look on YouTube, but it’s not pretty…

OldTinHat · 27/05/2023 19:49

£35 here in the SE.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 27/05/2023 19:50

I'm sat scoffing my food with my poor aching feet propped up watching a dodgy film on Netflix.....if I wanted a cultural experience I'd go to a Chinese restaurant.

But I don't. So I'll do as I please and moan about it.

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/05/2023 19:51

£20 here.

TequilaNights · 27/05/2023 19:52

Without reading TFT my guess is 35.00
7.50 salt and pepper chicken balls
5 chips
M8sed. Meat satay 7.50
Fried Rice 6.50
Mixed ribs 8.50

Mum2jenny · 27/05/2023 19:52

Around £30 here excluding any delivery charges

Dodger101 · 27/05/2023 19:52

That would have been £20 here but you wouldn't have been able to get the seaweed. They would have put a bag of prawn crackers in for free.

It does look tasty.

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 27/05/2023 19:52

I was adding as I was reading and came in at about £35 so that's not a bad ballpark with the guesses on the first page.

Now off to read to see if there's a total!

TequilaNights · 27/05/2023 19:54

Shoot, forgot crispy seaweed, that's 3.50 at my local 38.50

Dodger101 · 27/05/2023 19:55

A portion of chips or rice come free with main dishes around here and main dishes are roughly £7. You wouldn't be charged for them.

MadEyeMoodysEye · 27/05/2023 19:55

Looks really good (and we'd also chuck it all on the plate together) but seems very expensive - my guess was £28.

Ostryga · 27/05/2023 19:55

FrenchandSaunders · 27/05/2023 19:06

Well having spent £51 on fish and chips for three people recently …. and I’m still boring people with this … I’d say £50.

WHAT. Was it freshly caught bluefin tuna and potatoes harvested once every decade on a mountainside? That’s crazy money for a chippy tea.

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/05/2023 19:56

Just added it up on our menu, £28.60.
