Well I have plan at least.

  1. Sell this house
  2. Buy little house
  3. Give notice at current job.
  4. Find remote PT job
  5. Earn enough to cover outgoings (no mortgage thankfully)
  6. Spend my time doing what makes me happy.

I'm not spending what time I have left bloody working full time. The time between now and retirement will just be wasted years.

Wish me luck! Adventures here I come Grin

I love it! Good luck!

AinsleysOnions · 25/05/2023 07:08

That sounds amazing!! Well done on actually doing something about it. Good luck! 😊

mycatsanutter · 25/05/2023 07:08

Sounds like an excellent plan , get your house on the market and go for it !

You are doing the right thing!

Winter2020 · 25/05/2023 07:09

Sounds good. My only advice would be to find your new job before you leave your old one if you can. It's easier to get a job when you have one I think.

Good luck!

PurplePositivity · 25/05/2023 07:11

Sounds fabulous, that is my aim - happy adventures!

cafecreme · 25/05/2023 07:16

Sounds like a good plan. My parents retired late and are both in poor health with a big house and garden they can’t really manage.

LlynTegid · 25/05/2023 07:19

I went from five to four days a week at your age (unlike Bob Geldof, I do like Mondays). Is this an option?

GoalShooter · 25/05/2023 07:20

Sounds fab. Tell us more about number 6.

Newgolddream70 · 25/05/2023 07:20

Sounds wonderful, OP!

Definitely find a new job before you quit your current one.

Good luck!

orangegato · 25/05/2023 07:21

This is literally my dream. I’m a good few years off that. Mine involves hauling arse to the coast. Get me there now!

ChampagneCommunist · 25/05/2023 07:21

Wonderful! Keep us up dated

erikbloodaxe · 25/05/2023 07:24

@Winter2020

Normally I would agree with you 100% BUT the truth is I don't want to Grin. I want freedom and to not have to answer to anyone so for 6 months or even a year I'm going to just do as I please. No requesting holiday dates etc. I'm going to go coast to coast in Canada to start off my adventures.

Sounds blissful.

We are planning something similar when our dc are through university, 4-5 years max, less if possible.

Give up my career and look for part time work, move to our dream location and just enjoy life. Dh is older and already retired so want to enjoy our life together.

erikbloodaxe · 25/05/2023 07:25

4 days is too much. I'm thinking 2 or 3 maximum.

Depending where you are you may find it easier to say work 6 months ( tourist work ) travel 6 months

Strugglingtodomybest · 25/05/2023 07:28

Good for you! Life's too short not to have adventures 😁

erikbloodaxe · 25/05/2023 07:30

Number 6.

Travelling.
Being spontaneous.
Wild camping.
Climbing mountains.
Pottering
Fitting work around my hobbies.
Spending as much time as I like with family.

I could go on but I have to leave for flipping work.

Can i be nosey and ask if you have children? Do you have a partner?
I am same age with the same thoughts but have a teen at home so a little bit restricted at the minute.

Best of luck to you. I think what you are doing is fabulous

WelshNerd · 25/05/2023 07:46

Jeremy Hunt won't like it but good for you. I've been part time for the last 10 years and can't really imagine being full time again.

RudsyFarmer · 25/05/2023 07:47

Fantastic!!

erikbloodaxe · 25/05/2023 07:50

I do have children but they are adults. I have a partner too and his children are adults. We will sell both our houses and buy a little house together.

I just want to actually live my life to the full ( so does my Mr )

The future looks exciting!

Love it.

i do 4 days a week, it works out as 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off. So much better than 5 on 2 off.

about to turn 55, so have already given notice I’m leaving.

and i downsized jobs to a low level it role, after decades at the top….

I have zero stress
far more time
i don’t feel like it’s a slog to get to the weekend, just counting down to 55 birthday

i think you will love your adventures. It’s all been life changing and much healthier for me. Life is fun.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 25/05/2023 08:00

Id do this in a heartbeat if my mortgage was paid off
