Well I have plan at least.

  1. Sell this house
  2. Buy little house
  3. Give notice at current job.
  4. Find remote PT job
  5. Earn enough to cover outgoings (no mortgage thankfully)
  6. Spend my time doing what makes me happy.

I'm not spending what time I have left bloody working full time. The time between now and retirement will just be wasted years.

Wish me luck! Adventures here I come Grin

UpdateGrin

I've accepted an offer on my house. Now to find a little house somewhere. Exciting times ahead.

Once we've moved we shall get married.

congratulations!!

It's a shame you cannot edit your first post to add No. 7 to your list 'Get married' and No. 8 'Live happily semi-retired ever after...'

Another update 😁

My Mr proposed and I said yes Grin

Congratulations. Enjoy! It's never too late DH and I got married last year and are now both 53. Trying to plan for retirement for 56.

News headlines today! Not impressed that the government now think the over 50s should be flexible about work options and deliver takeaways. I have a master's degree with distinction after retraining in my 40s, I'm not working for Deliveroo to keep the economy going:

I was lucky enough to be able to take voluntary early retirement at 58. 4 years in and it’s wonderful - best thing I ever did. Enjoy your adventures.

HappyasLarrynot · 03/08/2023 14:12

Love your most recent update!

ChaliceinWonderland · 16/08/2023 12:37

Omg retiring at 50?

There's no way. How bored a
AF would I be?

As a single parent, my social life is mostly work....and just cannot envisage 40 years of retirement....Jesus.

ssd · 16/08/2023 13:27

I'd be bored too.

Early retirement is like everything else....great if you have money.

BringMeTea · 16/08/2023 13:40

Tbf I think people who get to retire early have sorted out the finances... How could you be bored? Come on..... 😁

ribbonbelle · 16/08/2023 13:43

I wouldn't be bored have to say.

erikbloodaxe · 19/09/2023 17:54

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 19/09/2023 18:04

Congratulations OP!

MaryJanesonabreak · 19/09/2023 18:05

So glad for you that it is all progressing so nicely.
I am also in a state of flux, have my house on the market and we’ve had one viewer in six weeks? And to compound my misery put in a silly offer at thirty below asking! Luckily I don’t have a mortgage, have only myself to please, so will sit tight and put the house back on in the Spring when hopefully the housing market will be a bit more normal.
Will stop looking at crumbly cottages on auction sites and make some piccalilli instead.

Oldandcobwebby · 19/09/2023 18:11

That is so awesome! Fwiw, I packed in working in August. It's absolutely wonderful! I am so excited for you 😀

This is such an uplifting thread.

Kangarude · 19/09/2023 18:35

Congratulations OP. Your life plan sounds great.
I'm the opposite end of the scale - I can afford to give up work, but I feel it is my lifeblood. I enjoy my job and would worry that I would be reduced to cleaning/cooking/chores to fill my time.

Diversion · 19/09/2023 18:39

Congratulations it sounds wonderful! Hoping to do similar in the not too distant future

greenspaces4peace · 19/09/2023 18:51

Dh and I retired from our ft jobs at 57, moved to a smaller home. Best decision ever. Enjoy the change!

heathspeedwell · 19/09/2023 18:53

Congratulations! Another one here who retired early (after DH repeatedly had cancer). It really made us realise that time is so much more important than money. We are absolutely loving waking up in the morning and choosing exactly what we want to do every day. I've never been happier and neither of us can quite believe our luck.

Teaandbiscuits60 · 19/09/2023 18:59

I did this and hubs set up a business from the garage and we live in a beautiful place now semi rural. Best thing I ever did. It felt so good and still does.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 19/09/2023 19:39

Go for it! I got the chance because I was made redundant and the pay-off was enough to pay off the mortgage and I took my pension early. Best thing that ever happened to me.
