Well I have plan at least.

  1. Sell this house
  2. Buy little house
  3. Give notice at current job.
  4. Find remote PT job
  5. Earn enough to cover outgoings (no mortgage thankfully)
  6. Spend my time doing what makes me happy.

I'm not spending what time I have left bloody working full time. The time between now and retirement will just be wasted years.

Wish me luck! Adventures here I come Grin

Im with you OP, even down to the Canada coast to coast! I was recently costing that up for my 60th which is coming next year. DH and I talk almost every day about doing exactly what you describe but we can't quite make the jump yet. Wishing you much happiness!

I do have children but they are adults. I have a partner too and his children are adults. We will sell both our houses and buy a little house together.

I love this. Life is too short. Enjoy everything.

Beaverbridge · 25/05/2023 08:11

Sounds amazing. Go for it. Like the old saying goes, you pass this way but once.

ConnieSaks · 25/05/2023 08:11

I’ve done something similar (though careful with the house choice)! I haven’t returned to any form of work and am on permanent holiday - it’s devine!

Parsley1234 · 25/05/2023 08:16

ClairDeLaLune · 25/05/2023 08:19

So excited for you OP! What an excellent plan. I love your outlook on life. Hope to do the same myself soon!

doitwithlove · 25/05/2023 08:19

Absolutely go for it, we have one life - live it.

Good luck to you both

Simianwalk · 25/05/2023 08:19

I love your plan. I would follow it but unfortunately already have a little house 😁

MayBeee · 25/05/2023 08:20

I went part time - Monday's / Fridays off to give myself long weekends with a finish at 3pm on a Thursday. Loved it.

lljkk · 25/05/2023 08:24

What kind of work do you do, OP? Do you have a salary requirement?

Todaypicard · 25/05/2023 08:28

What about grandchildren? I thought of Thai plan for myself, but when grandchildren come along I don’t want to be miles away and not see them often.

Amboseli · 25/05/2023 08:32

Great plan! Only question is why didn't you do it sooner?!

Scribl · 25/05/2023 08:38

I did this around three years ago at 51. Sold up. Relocated. Work from home for myself, and travel. Zero regrets.

Have a wonderful rest of your life!

Parsley1234 · 25/05/2023 08:40

Life’s too bloody short
Mr Hunt and his aspirations for 50 year olds plus to return to the workforce to prop up this country makes me laugh no thanks very much !
Good luck with the rest of your life have the best time ♥️🥳♥️

IfYouDontAsk · 25/05/2023 08:41

Do it!!!! You’ll be living the dream!!!

Blackcatsalwaysrock · 25/05/2023 08:43

It sounds fabulous! DH and I (retired) would love to do that but we’re tied by 5 family members who will never leave home! (Hold the sympathy - they’re cats!). Go for it

Aslanplustwo · 25/05/2023 08:43

Go for it! I'm a year off retirement and have just told my boss I'm leaving my part-time job. I will take some time off and then look for temp/casual work until I can get national superannuation. Financially it's not a great decision, but neither was leaving my last full-time job and I have been so much happier since I did. Life is too short.

DogsvsCats · 25/05/2023 08:43

Fantastic! Prioritising your well being is never something you'll regret.

stardustpixy · 25/05/2023 08:44

Bloody fantastic! Best of luck

Mix56 · 25/05/2023 08:44

Another one chained to the house by cats, three in my case!!! Love your user name, and I agree.

BlueFreedom · 25/05/2023 08:47

This sounds awesome. I wish you happiness, contentment and adventure.

ilovesushi · 25/05/2023 08:47

It sounds bloody brilliant!

Spinnakerser · 25/05/2023 08:52

Sounds wonderful!

Onefootinthegroove · 25/05/2023 08:53

@erikbloodaxe
I did the same nearly 4 years ago - we were lucky enough to have a holiday home already, DH was semi retired and I was working in a job I hated , just so we could keep our heads above water in a house that was too big for us as DC had both flown the nest. So we sold the millstone of a house.I was 49, looked 59, felt 79!

I now work very pt, choose which contracts I WANT to work on, both have time for hobbies, its bliss. I'm now 53 and am fitter, healthier and happier than I've been for years. Go for it !
