Well I have plan at least.

  1. Sell this house
  2. Buy little house
  3. Give notice at current job.
  4. Find remote PT job
  5. Earn enough to cover outgoings (no mortgage thankfully)
  6. Spend my time doing what makes me happy.

I'm not spending what time I have left bloody working full time. The time between now and retirement will just be wasted years.

Wish me luck! Adventures here I come Grin

Wow fantastic. I'd love to read how you get on.

AlisonDonut · 25/05/2023 08:55

I did this 2 years ago at 53.

Rented house out in the UK and used savings to buy a house in France. Moved to France. Spend all day in the garden, and looking after a range of cats none of whom are ours. Blissful.

Andanotherone01 · 25/05/2023 08:56

I am completely envious and wishing you the very best of everything on your adventures

WollyParton · 25/05/2023 08:56

I love this post! Go for it OP!

Sloth66 · 25/05/2023 08:59

It sounds great. What a nice plan.

Stripedbag101 · 25/05/2023 09:00

This is wonderful.

I always promised myself I would get a puppy when I retire - but now thinking that is a big commitment and a lot of work! Travel sounds better.

I do love my job though so planning on working until I am at least 62 - health permitting.

but I could fill my days very well

OnMyWayToSenility · 25/05/2023 09:03

My dream too! Just waiting for my youngest who is 10 😱 to get to 18!

Then I'm off 😀😀

Netcam · 25/05/2023 09:06

Sounds perfect. I'm 53 and work part time remote, it's great. No mortgage either. Although I do have a (2nd) husband and teens still at home. But one is off to uni and the other to 6th form in September. I do not intend to return to full time work.

Bitterestpil · 25/05/2023 09:09

This is a dream for me and DH eventually....., he's approaching 60 and I'm 54, he's all for it to be fair. We need to downsize to release some cash, no mortgage, work FT what the hell is stopping me 😏.

Lambstails · 25/05/2023 09:10

What a refreshing life plan! Go for it if your situation permits and enjoy every single second. I know so many people who have retired at the 'correct' age and who didn't live long enough to enjoy more than a year or so of retirement, so this sounds like a great way to grab life by the curlies!

fjsoaar · 25/05/2023 09:11

So uplifting to read this morning, good luck OP!

Soapyspuds · 25/05/2023 09:12

I hope it all goes well. Please give us updates along the way

Winter2020 · 25/05/2023 07:09

Sounds good. My only advice would be to find your new job before you leave your old one if you can. It's easier to get a job when you have one I think.

Good luck!

And make sure you have paid enough NI contributions to cover your pension. If you can buy in some additional credits to boost it up a bit.

ThankmelaterOkay · 25/05/2023 09:17

As a 35 year old, I look forward to doing this too….

oh wait

fancreek · 25/05/2023 09:20

God you must have so much money to be able to do this! Jealous and bitter! Can't imagine not having to worry about pensions etc at 54.

Chamomileteaplease · 25/05/2023 09:21

OP and others can you suggest a few ideas for part-time remote work? Sounds perfect 😀.

SerendipityJane · 25/05/2023 09:27

Writ large, this is what is terrifying the more authoritarian politicians and parties.

The Clash prophesied it years ago :

"Lately one or two have fully paid their dues ..."

Best of luck OP.

Onepotatoetwopotatoe · 25/05/2023 09:28

Great idea OP …. It’s exactly what I am planning to do and currently retraining to allow me to do a flexible, remote part time job. Why do we accept being slaves to a system so readily ?

Onepotatoetwopotatoe · 25/05/2023 09:28

Ps I’m certainly not loaded but but most things from a charity shop and live frugally as the won’t fit all that stuff in my coffin and it’s no use up or down there anyway.

Thetowelsareallwrong · 25/05/2023 09:29

Lovely plan but surely most people couldn't afford to do this in a month of Sundays?

MrsMikeDrop · 25/05/2023 09:31

Sounds fabulous 👌 Enjoy!!

Onepotatoetwopotatoe · 25/05/2023 09:32

Indonesia apartments are £4 a night …. Lunch is £1 …. If you get out of the commercial areas.

Onepotatoetwopotatoe · 25/05/2023 09:33

Not a rich persons game at all…. We are just programmed to think we need large houses ( to be sold to pay for our end of life care) we are programmed to believe we can’t live without the newest new thing or the best car…..

Onepotatoetwopotatoe · 25/05/2023 09:34

If someone worked for 45 years full time and only has 5 weeks off a year …. How much of their adult life is actually their own?

CandlelightGlow · 25/05/2023 09:34

Amazing and inspirational. This is actually exactly what I plan to do when I am your age, I'm at the other end of the spectrum right now though, just gone back to FT work, young DC, but in 20 years my DC will all be adults and I hope to do this too!
