No 10 not confirming the spectacle of the reaction, which involved people crying with laughter and saying 'You wish!'

Except for Viktor Orban, obviously, but he doesn't qualify as a human being.

L1ttledrummergirl · 16/05/2023 18:32

I hope he asked and they laughed.

I'm struggling to know which posters on the thread are being satirical and which are serious.

DuncinToffee · 16/05/2023 21:28

I am confused by the one who keeps asking who to vote for but we better not turn this into a taat Smile

Johnson's Oven Ready Deal meets reality once again -

"NEW / EXCL - breaking on #bbcnewsten and News online … Vauxhall owner Stellantis tells Government to renegotiate Brexit deal signed by Boris Johnson as it confirms for first time its UK electric car exports will not qualify for TCA from January as wont meet origin requirements.

twitter.com/faisalislam/status/1658577635482509314?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

this bit was really pretty 👀… Stellantis “If the cost of EV Manufacturing in the UK becomes uncompetitive..
operations will close. Manufacturers will…relocate manufacturing operations outside of UK, as seen with previously established UK manufacturers such as Ford and Mini”

What do you mean reality? He got Brexit done don’t ya know.

Nat6999 · 16/05/2023 23:54

I've seen an interview with Dominic Grieve, who is a longstanding old Tory & former Attorney General. He says he & many other longstanding old Tories no longer recognise the Conservative Party in the form it is now. It would be good if they all started rebelling & voted against everything that is currently being proposed by Rishi & his cabinet, it only takes 83 & they would be in big trouble.

newnamethanks · 17/05/2023 00:06

Voting against the Party will result in their being deselected by the nutters who've got their filthy teeth firmly embedded in the buttocks of the Party. Lord knows how they'll shift them. John Major managed them best but they've been permitted and encouraged to flourish and they've spread like mould. Hideous people without a principal to share amongst the lot of them.

Westfacing · 17/05/2023 00:14

In that clip with Farage, what does she say to him near the end?

Something like .... to you then, and gestures towards him, and he replies 'It's not on my bucket list'. What's not on his bucket list?

I keep replaying it and can't quite make it out.

Chances are they will lose their seats in the next General Election anyway. The best we can hope for is the whole party to collapse with infighting, which will improve Labour's chances. Maybe the only chance for the old Tories is to be deselected & campaign as independents. The party is well on it's way to splitting into two parties, Old Tories V Raving maniac Tories.

It does seem to have come to a head. The Tories have actually not managed to unite behind a leader for any sustained period whilst being the government since the late 80s, which is an amazing stat really. 2010-15 was different because they were in coalition, so the nutjob wing didn't have the same influence. They've always had this reputation for pragmatism and being the natural party of government, but this sort of behaviour has been in evidence for decades now.

It's interesting how little backbone so many of them have though. Anyone with a majority of less than 10k knows they're probably out on their arses, and in most of those cases they can't delude themselves they'll get back in the next time.

Interview in the Times with Keir Starmer, it's behind paywall so if anyone has a share token that would be much appreciated.

Oh god. Haven’t we treated them badly enough already? Couldn’t we just get back to processing claims at the speed we used to not at 1/4 of the rate?

I fear I’m in danger of applying logic again though.

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2023 10:23

Rishi Sunak:

“UK in a good position to persuade ECHR to amend its procedures to make it easier for government to implement Rwanda policy.”

Response:

“UK will end up like Russia if it ignores ECHR obligations, Council of Europe parliamentary leader tells Sunak.”

By good position I assume he means they didn’t laugh directly in his face.

L1ttledrummergirl · 17/05/2023 10:34

It's absurd that we've got to the point that the British Prime Minister is even suggesting we do this.

Yes investment in the systems. Speeding up processing and returns where applications have failed is the way forward.
Boats moored outside of cities and Rwanda don't scratch the surface of the existing backlog. Why did they let it get so bad?
The cynic in me thinks it was helpful for their cause and overall messaging.

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2023 10:56

A small step forwards?

https://twitter.com/BestForBritain/status/1658769437934100480?s=20
Starmer says he will look to renegotiate the UK-EU deal: "We want a closer trading relationship... We were promised an oven-ready deal and got something which was frankly half-baked. There's a lot of work to do there, as there is on everything else, to clear up the mess." ~AA

Thank you for the new thread. Depressing times.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/05/2023 11:30

According to someone on a thread about immigration it’s because lazy civil servants are still working from home. Or something.

The kings Find have a graph of the backlog and the curve on it looks exponential. I doubt any of the things proposed so far are even going to make a dent in it.

And I thought we didn’t have enough housing supply anyway. Schroedinger’s immigrants are going to end up living in schroedinger’s private rental properties at this rate.

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2023 11:43

It's Dowden vs Rayner on PMQ's today.

Will have to catch up on that one later today.

There's a proper debate happening on Storm Huntley right now, they're giving Farage a roasting. He said he's "done more to get rid of the far right in this country than anyone".
I want to see the clip later.

Going to catch PMQs now.
