What minor laws would you introduce?

lighthearted

If you were put in charge of Everything for a few weeks, what minor laws would you introduce? I'm thinking things that would be really easy to implement, and would make people's lives easier.

I would make it the law that manufacturers of electronic devices had to indicate on the outside of the product which batteries it needs (type and how many). I'm fed up of having to take the battery cover off, check what's in there, and then either put the cover back on (fiddling with a tiny screwdriver), or leave it off somewhere (to inevitably lose it) until I can get new batteries for the thing.

While they're at it, they can make the cover permanently attached to the device so it doesn't get lost. But not attached in a way that makes it impossible to reach the batteries.

I have 3…

  1. must read the full thread before posting
  2. unless you are me. I am exempt
  3. spitting in public. I would introduce rooftop snipers. You spit in public… boom. Dead. No exceptions.
dwightschrutebeets · 03/05/2023 22:07

Everyone has to say thank you when you do something- hold a door, let them pass etc. winds me up so much

Sarahjaykay · 03/05/2023 22:13

Dogs on leads in most places apart from specific areas.
Carers to be paid/treated appropriately so we can get enough people into the profession to stop bed blocking waiting for appropriate home care. It's such a rewarding career ruined by the working conditions and minimum wage pay.

I have no previous experience of marksmanship, but I wish to apply for the position of rooftop sniper who takes out people who spit.

I read here I think that dog owners in Spain have to carry water for rinsing poo residue off after they pick it up. Hmmm, now I write that down it seems unlikely 😀

No it's true but the water is for wee as its hot and smells It's not actually the law but it's recommended

Make it compulsory for all events/classes adverts to say the day of the week. For example as it’s 3rd May today, it needs to be listed as Wednesday 3rd May. I know what days of the week I’m free on and it’s so annoying having to look at the calendar each time.

This is brilliant.

A bag on hand luggage on planes beyond a small bag (unless with small kids then I concede an additional changing bag - personal pet peeve, I check my luggage (and one large checked suitcase (23kg) was cheaper than 2 10kg carry ons!). Yes I'm fortunate to be on holiday currently

Noooo I never take a case. I hate the waiting to check a bag in and again on the carousel. Takes so long

Soproudoflionesses · 03/05/2023 22:22

No smoking when pregnant.
No facetiming on loudspeaker in public.
No bedwear to be worn in public

JackyinaTracky · 03/05/2023 22:24

@Mostar 4. Bonus paid for every one of those filthy animals you take out. It’s just gross and there really is no excuse 🤢

proventocleanbetter · 03/05/2023 22:25

Oh God. Too many.

I would ban scrolling around on mobile phones. Nobody wants to see your photos of your dog, and they definitely don't want to see the 33 million other photos you have to scroll through to get there. In fact, I'd ban smartphones full stop.

Prison for people who write 'should of' and don't know the difference between their, there and they're.

A longer prison sentence for anyone over the age of 18 wearing trainers, unless they are actually participating in sport.

A ban on sport.

And agree with @Bluebells1970. Ban men from calling themselves women.

I'd be a brilliant lawmaker.

StarDolphins · 03/05/2023 22:32

No ‘funny’ stickers on cars
No jewellery on men (apart from wedding ring)
No hot tubs unless you have no neighbours
No artificial grass
No pets unless you pass a very strict exam to ensure you can meet their needs forever.
No naughty kids in restaurants
No topless men
No PJ’s or hair rollers in public

Dinopawus · 03/05/2023 22:35

Ban winter. Swap Halloween for Christmas and get rid of November to February.

Remove calories from chocolate (but not taste).

No one is to speak before 10 am. Whispering is permitted in an emergency.

Parking spaces must be wide enough to open your doors.

No bonfires when I've got washing out.

Mandatory competence test for all elected politicians.

Coffeeandbourbons · 03/05/2023 22:47

The smallest a bedroom can be in a new building is 3 x 3

Coffeeandbourbons · 03/05/2023 22:48

New build that should say

Newestname002 · 03/05/2023 22:51

These are SO good! I have to say if there was a current political party whose manifesto (most) of these idea I'd vote for it with no hesitation at the next general election. 🌹

Bring back dog licences.

THIS!

Compulsory 'hedgehog highways' in all gardens.

Grey squirrels exterminated (and made into pies)

Red squirrels reintroduced to all counties.

Dog off leads (unless in designated areas) anaesthetised.

Not sure what to do with cats yet 🤔

Massive subsidies for planting native, managed trees everywhere.

Humans have to take a strict test before being allowed to reproduce - with refreshers every year. Or being able to own a car, a pet or an outfit from Primark.

Government much more strictly monitored by the hoi polloi.

Plastics fazed out by 2025.

Putin exterminated. Wars banned.

Cadbury to be given back to British and recent recipes scrapped.

Doctor's instructed to ditch minor medication in favour of compulsory nature walks.

No bullying allowed.

Much harsher prison sentences for infringements of all of the above - and much more too...

Smile

An outfit from primark? Nice bit of stereotyping there

beachwhirly · 03/05/2023 22:58

Immediate driving ban if diagnosed with dementia.

SchoolTripDrama · 03/05/2023 23:00

Rabidturnip · 02/05/2023 18:05

When I come to power, I will outlaw all on road parking. If you don’t have a drive, you need to get rid of your car nad utilise public transport. If you park on the road, your car will be towed and you will not get it back until you provide proof of an offroad parking spot. The End.

So disabled people who rely on their car for their independence should do what? Just be euthanised I presume??? Hmm

beachwhirly · 03/05/2023 23:02

The wearing of white socks to be outlawed unless playing a sport.

All crocs to be gathered up and burnt.

The wearing of socks with sandals punishable by exile.

blueshoes · 03/05/2023 23:10

Ban men from women only spaces and sport. Get your kicks elsewhere, huns. And stop calling them women. Have a penis = man. Call me a woman's name but I have a penis = man. I'm wearing a dress but I have a penis = man.

@Bluebells1970 thank you

Also ban unisex toilets and unisex changing rooms to the exclusion of women's only.

Nat6999 · 03/05/2023 23:16

A ban on cycle lanes actually being on the road, move them through parks or remove grass verges to allow for them.

blueshoes · 03/05/2023 23:20

Yes, ban cycle lanes, if not cyclists

Doormatnomore · 03/05/2023 23:21

mine is like jury duty but a random person is allocated to decide arguments which fall short of criminal eg. Is a buffet good enough for a birthday party or should it be a sit down meal? Do we need a better telly? Should Malcolm from accounts be allowed to keep his bike in the cloak room? That kind of thing. You get a phone call, a car picks you up, you hear both (or all sides) and then have 5 mins to make a decision. Decision is final and any further talk once the decision is made results in lifetime imprisonment.

I cannot have one more pointless disagreement.

People should have to maintain the front areas of their houses, whether garden or whatever. There's a house near me that has a garden full of rubbish and she even dumps stuff on the land adjacent to her house, including an old mattress 😠 some other people are cultivating three foot high weeds and another has a pile of rotting pallets in theirs, complete with plastic windmill stuck on top It just looks scruffy and horrible.

I think i this would be good. Some houses in my street haven't been weeded ever !
