What minor laws would you introduce?

lighthearted

If you were put in charge of Everything for a few weeks, what minor laws would you introduce? I'm thinking things that would be really easy to implement, and would make people's lives easier.

I would make it the law that manufacturers of electronic devices had to indicate on the outside of the product which batteries it needs (type and how many). I'm fed up of having to take the battery cover off, check what's in there, and then either put the cover back on (fiddling with a tiny screwdriver), or leave it off somewhere (to inevitably lose it) until I can get new batteries for the thing.

While they're at it, they can make the cover permanently attached to the device so it doesn't get lost. But not attached in a way that makes it impossible to reach the batteries.

No using mobiles/playing music, films etc on public transport without headphones - confiscate their phones if they do!

houseselling · 02/05/2023 17:53

No men competing in women's sport.

gogohmm · 02/05/2023 17:55

A bag on hand luggage on planes beyond a small bag (unless with small kids then I concede an additional changing bag - personal pet peeve, I check my luggage (and one large checked suitcase (23kg) was cheaper than 2 10kg carry ons!). Yes I'm fortunate to be on holiday currently

gogohmm · 02/05/2023 17:56

@Thighdentitycrisis

They don't pick up here based on the amount on the streets!

Phineyj · 02/05/2023 17:57

A quota for building works/home improvements for each postcode (emergencies excepted). No more than a certain amount of construction per year!

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 02/05/2023 17:58

complete ban on unpaid overtime ( small 5-10 minute allowance per week for running a couple of minutes over) for anyone not earning enough to pay higher rate tax,

Newnamenewname109870 · 02/05/2023 17:58

It would be a legal requirement to wear a helmet when riding a bike. I can’t believe it’s not a law already.

Newnamenewname109870 · 02/05/2023 17:59

Afterwork drinks and socials count as work time

Potential MPs have to do at least a year working in either education or the NHS, preferably while living in social housing.

I'm with you on that one. They have to survive on those wages too - literally live the life they are expecting others to live. If they can't hack it they're instantly disqualified.

To add on that, they also shouldn't be allowed to parachute in as a candidate and must live in the actual constituency for at least 5 years before being allowed to stand. If they're truly community minded they'll find ways to volunteer during that time.

all toilets fitted with a bidet shower hose as toilet paper is gross and I hate poo crumbs.

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/05/2023 18:01

People who park in the middle of what should be a 3 car space on the street outside my house to be fined £1000 on the spot.

Cismyfatarse · 02/05/2023 18:02

Complex and expensive driving test before anyone can drive a mobile home on Highland roads (or any roads).

A total ban on all shit that comes through the letterbox and straight into the recycling.

HandaPanda · 02/05/2023 18:02

An immediate ban on all high heels in any situation.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/05/2023 18:04

No more than 2 adult cyclists cycling together (2 adults can cycle with their children) and definitely no cycling road races.

Rabidturnip · 02/05/2023 18:05

When I come to power, I will outlaw all on road parking. If you don’t have a drive, you need to get rid of your car nad utilise public transport. If you park on the road, your car will be towed and you will not get it back until you provide proof of an offroad parking spot. The End.

Rabidturnip · 02/05/2023 18:07

All modified bikes/cars with crash bang wallop exhausts will also be seized and crushed.

Middle lane hoggers will lose their licences until they have taken their tests again, and sat and passed a specific test for How To Drive Properly On The Motorway.

Barton10 · 02/05/2023 18:08

Bike helmets should be compulsory for all

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 02/05/2023 18:09

All dogs except official assistance dogs banned from indoor public places, and to be kept on a short lead at all times in public. Designated fields for exercise.

Dog license with compulsory test - 2 dogs per household maximum, all bully / staffs & DNA related breeds banned.

If seen leaving poo bags, fined £1000. If fined 3 times banned from keeping dogs.

Fromage · 02/05/2023 18:12

Parking threads on internet forums must contain a diagram. Punishable by fine and a day reading threads about hubs and bubbas going on holibobs.

SeaToSki · 02/05/2023 18:15

All newspapers/media outlets that write about ‘a new study says do this one simple thing and you will live for ever’ should also be required to give equivalent details on other studies that show the opposite/a different result/no effect at all. And the chief scientists who authored the study should be named and give their own 2 sentence précis of their study’s conclusions

Everyone who lives in the UK should be able to see a doctor in person on the same day for triage by booking an online appointment. The appointments should be no more than 10 miles from the person’s home or work and a public transport stop

I like the PP that said every teenager should have to do 25 hrs of community service a year, except I would increase it to 50 hours and if you are a ref for a local sport team, that counts and D of E service counts etc

sanityisamyth · 02/05/2023 18:18

Snipers on every motorway gantry to take out middle lane drivers.

LlynTegid · 02/05/2023 18:19

British Summer Time all year round. An hour of daylight early evening in winter is more useful than in the morning.

DustyLee123 · 02/05/2023 18:19

Everyone on a bike should wear a helmet. Adults and teens (high school age )must not ride on pavements.

kingtamponthefurred · 02/05/2023 18:21

Anyone who talks in a theatre while the house lights are down should be removed, kicked down the steps, then banned from attending future performances. Enforcement would be easy because the offenders would get a compulsory and very distinctive facial tattoo.

Fandabedodgy · 02/05/2023 18:23

I'd remove driving licences from people who fail to use their indicators.
